Cousins is by far the more complete player. Poyet is good at what he does but Cousins has the potential to be the complete midfielder. He can play anywhere across midfield, in any role, can score and create goals and he can lead a team.
Poyet was great. He'd just started playing first team football and he settled into it so well. We threw him in and he took to it immediately and provided a platform for us to stay up. That was the point when he should have kicked on, and instead he chose to sit on West Ham's bench for a season and stall his progress. Silly boy.
If Cousins could add goals to his game ......only thing missing imo, in theory Kashi should allow him to push on a bit more this season. Also quite excited about Ba, few more games under his belt and it will be a interesting battle on who comands the cm positions this year
Comparing two young Players who are midfielders but very different and one decides to stay and one decides to go, Surprise surprise, some people are bias !
When i saw Poyet play for the U21 side i thought he had a good chance of 1st team football because he was a tidy passes who could tackle and looked to play the pass quite early but wouldn't run with the ball like Jordan does.
I can't see how People are saying he's only a championship player ? Really you have a crystal ball and he never going to improve on last season ? Football wise if not money wise, Poyet has wasted 1 if not 2 seasons, even thou the usual rubbish about training with better players will be used. That's fine if you get to play, but waste of time if as in Diego case he doesn't make the 18.
A loan spell at MK Dons if it comes off is a another Bizarre twist in the career path of Young Poyet. The only good thing to come out of it is just Like Casey Palmer and Bostock at Palace the grass isn't always greener, even if for some like Gomez it's Verdant.
I was one of the people happy to see him go, albeit I'd have prefered receiving the fee we deserved but.... The club owners neglected on tying down quite a few players. Without the luck of a small playing squad, poor performances and a club falling apart he might have been waved goodbye. He played excellently when we were playing containing and negating football.
He offers little attacking intent, or game breaking talent. Yes he harries and tackles well, and too my mind is supremely more talented than Semedo was but similar in his style. Unless you play continental style football, where everything is constricted centrally and you're essentially playing five centrally minded midfielders with Poyet at the base, he's an offensive wasteland. Yes Cousins wastes play at times, but he breaks play offensively and defensively. He makes things happen, Poyet rarely does. If you play Poyet and Cousins together, you only have to worry about Cousins, Poyet is never going to hurt you. In the championship we need reliability with at least some tiny capability of taking players out the game.
Poyet would be perfect for a club like Swansea, and may suit West Ham down the line. The way MK Dons play should also be suited for him. I hope he does well. I for one hold no enmity towards him. We got some cash when some people had prevously thought he'd not make the grade.
In the half a season we saw Poyet for he showed he had class and ability and was clearly a gifted footballer. He broke up attacks and gave the ball to others to push us forward. He was exactly what we needed at the time and proved his worth to us. He then decided to further his career elsewhere. Cousins was more of a slow burner. Less obvious and less 'celebrity' for want of a better word. The fact that he is tall and slightly gangly and has a fantastic engine perhaps hides the more technical side of his game. Let's not forget his gem of a goal early last season cutting in from the left and his ability to hit a sixty yard cross field pass to feet. Added to this his ability to play in a variety of roles and his excellent attitude we have a hell of a player.
He may have to work harder than Poyet on certain skill based parts of his game but for the age he is and to perform with the consistency he does is no mean feat.
I can't see Poyet making it at West Ham after the emergence of Oxford. It was going to be tough breaking into that midfield anyway but now it seems incredibly unlikely.

I don't get this at all - do you support Charlton, Colin?

Poyet worked his ass off for riga but wasn't nursed into the game like Cousins.
Shame is Cousins is at least catching him up now and looks to have more of a future.
Cousins, for all his effort and engine, gives the ball away way too often and isn't as physically strong as he looks.

MK Dons is probably a good move for him as he should stand out there.
but who would of predicted this when he left us ?
he saw out his contract in full unlike turncoat Gonez who left early.
