  • Disappointing.
  • Very disappointing but at least we know now, time to move on.
  • Gutted he's leaving but wish him the best of luck for the future
  • People are going to be coming up with lists of things we could've/should've/might've done but I think he was always intending to go to be honest. It's a hard blow to take but we will survive, keep hold of Cousins and we'll get by without young Diego.
  • Very Dissapointed he is leaving but wish him all the best for the future and really hope this move does not damage his career

What I mean by that is I hope he is not going somewhere he will just sit on the bench and will never play
  • Bad news but Hey Ho. Life goes on.... Will watch his career with interest. I reckon he'll end up at Chelsea
  • Charlton had been in discussions with the 19-year-old’s representatives over an extension to his previous deal since early 2014 and offered substantially improved terms in an effort to retain the fan-favourite midfielder.

Sounds like we did offer more money

  • Cheers Diego for bringing some light to an otherwise gloomy season, however this is your decision and whilst it may currently hurt, that will soon pass.
  • Huge loss.
  • Anyone that thinks they're better than us are best served elsewhere.

Sounds cycnical but getting player of the season is the best possible outcome for the club in terms of compensation.
  • Gutted and I think he will be too in a few years time.

He's not PL quality yet so a 3 year deal would've been good for both parties. He gets regular first team football with us and gets sold at the end of the season. He has valuable FIRST TEAM experience and we get a respectable fee.
  • Bye bye, now let's concentrate on the players who want to play for our great club.
  • Thanks for the memories Diego you will always be jewel in our heart.
  • Classy Diego
  • Hardly surprising and I don't blame him, if it was one of my kids I would have advised him to go to a bigger club for more money. Its a no brainer.
Good Luck Diego and thanks for helping keep us in the Championship.
  • Only played 20 first team games, let's hope he hasn't moved on too quickly.

  • His position on the field can be replaced with a steady pro. Let's concentrate on bringing in some attacking midfielders and forget about him

Of course, all us Charlton fans, voted him for this reason. We aren't stupid ;)
  • Can't really blame him considering the turnover at the club but still thought he would eventually stay for another season. Massively disappointed.
  • I think that makes my comments look a little less 'guff' now.

His father says there is a very good chance he'll stay to a Charlton fan on the 24th June and on the 25th June the club announce that he has declined to return to preseason training with us as he's looking to explore his options elsewhere. Even if the club posted that as soon as they heard from him it's the next day. If the club took a day or two to announce his departure while they told us about Morrison and Igor then it is possible (and not at all unlikely) that'd he'd already told the club he was leaving while Gus was telling PaulSturgess that there's a good chance he will stay.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't feel silly about any of my posts now.

I never believed he'd stay. I believe he'd decided to go elsewhere before the end of the season. I don't blame the player for leaving but I don't think I will be able to believe what he, or his father, gives us as the reason for his departure. Those of you that want to continue to lay this at the door of RD by assuming that he left because Powell was sacked feel free, but I'll never believe that.
  • How does the compensation work, is it a voluntary gesture by whoever signs him?
