People are going to be coming up with lists of things we could've/should've/might've done but I think he was always intending to go to be honest. It's a hard blow to take but we will survive, keep hold of Cousins and we'll get by without young Diego.
Cheers Diego. Nothing like a bit of loyalty in the game and this is nothing like a bit of loyalty. Enjoy your career. Thanks for the 20 games, let's hope it's as big as your ego
Cheers Diego for bringing some light to an otherwise gloomy season, however this is your decision and whilst it may currently hurt, that will soon pass.
Gutted and I think he will be too in a few years time.
He's not PL quality yet so a 3 year deal would've been good for both parties. He gets regular first team football with us and gets sold at the end of the season. He has valuable FIRST TEAM experience and we get a respectable fee.
Hardly surprising and I don't blame him, if it was one of my kids I would have advised him to go to a bigger club for more money. Its a no brainer. Good Luck Diego and thanks for helping keep us in the Championship.
Immediately unfollowed. That'll bloody well show him. Yeah, you might be making a big money move to a Prem team or wherever, but you just lost yourself one Twitter follower, my friend.
yes its Disappointing, but lets face it he is far to good for us and he wants to improve his career maybe play international football, for England or Spain or Uruguay whichever one it is he chooses. But come on lets not be bitter, He played well when he played, and we let his contract run down.
Was pretty obvious we were going to see the loyalty, rot in reserves comments. Shame. He is a kid with a massive talent. He could break his leg tomorrow. He will now get security for the rest of his life and train amongst the best.
I think that makes my comments look a little less 'guff' now.
His father says there is a very good chance he'll stay to a Charlton fan on the 24th June and on the 25th June the club announce that he has declined to return to preseason training with us as he's looking to explore his options elsewhere. Even if the club posted that as soon as they heard from him it's the next day. If the club took a day or two to announce his departure while they told us about Morrison and Igor then it is possible (and not at all unlikely) that'd he'd already told the club he was leaving while Gus was telling PaulSturgess that there's a good chance he will stay.
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't feel silly about any of my posts now.
I never believed he'd stay. I believe he'd decided to go elsewhere before the end of the season. I don't blame the player for leaving but I don't think I will be able to believe what he, or his father, gives us as the reason for his departure. Those of you that want to continue to lay this at the door of RD by assuming that he left because Powell was sacked feel free, but I'll never believe that.
Clearly a move motivated by money and not a football decision.
As stated by RugbyAddick he is not yet ready for the PL so if he goes to a PL team he will be playing in their U21 team or be back on loan to the Championship.
Disappointing but lets concentrate on supporting the players who want to be here and not waste our time on those that don't.

What I mean by that is I hope he is not going somewhere he will just sit on the bench and will never play

Sounds like we did offer more money
Sounds cycnical but getting player of the season is the best possible outcome for the club in terms of compensation.

Of course, all us Charlton fans, voted him for this reason. We aren't stupid
Good luck Diego. I would have done the same.
Would love for him to have stayed for another year, but football is a dog eat dog world, just ask players like Pritchard, and every penny counts.
Cant knock the new regime for this either. Seems like they really wanted him to stay.
so will we get money for him or not????
Good luck Diego and i will always look upon him as another player made in Charlton.
