    When was that put together?
Two of those have played for Charlton. Michael Johnson would have made it had it not been for off field issues. Walcott was injured and Richards should have been out there.
  • The longer this goes on the more respect I have Jonjo Shelvey, Scott Parker and Carl Jenkinson. Poyet is moving closer to Jermaine Defoe territory for me.

This thread has now jumped the shark.
  • A demonstration as to how big bucks ruins young hopefuls.
  • today he tweeted, "getting ready for preseason", does that bode well for us?

See Diego listen to the thread, Charlton supporters have your best interest at heart ;-)
  • surely with everyone, including all out of contract players, newbies etc., we will very soon see who is in or out - as they report back on what imminent date?

According to Jordan Cousins, he came in on the 16th to prepare for pre-season training and met other players there. According to Diego Poyet, pre-season training starts in 5 days, that makes it Friday 27th, seems a strange day to start training, especially as the following weekend they are off to Belgium for the mini tournament. The first few days training is all about fitness testing etc, I believe.
  • really appreciate the inside the training ground info, thx a lot, this charlton life intel is bringing se7 much closer for me, love it!
  • Cousins today tweeted something like '5 days till the grind starts again' with a picture of him vs Sheffield Wednesday. That's the same date as Diego is saying..

Well he is under contract until the end of the month so is required to report for that unless he signs for someone else.

June 26th first day back, guess we will find out then did he stay, or did he go

  • That team of the future is amazing. One regular PL starter. At least the mail predicted the decline of Rooney

    i cant see him saying
  • Want him to stay but couldn't begrudge him a move to Everton if true, can't think of many better spots for him than under Martinez in the role Barry has been playing for them.

Sorry, but Poyet just isn't at that level yet. Barry was excellent for Everton last season.
  • No of course he isn't yet but I'd imagine Barry will re-join them this Summer and he can learn for a couple of years and probably play in cup games.

If that was the case- he would be better staying with us.

  • Not necessarily, generally the players who make it to the England squad learn at the top teams and aren't loaned out to the Championship. Lallana is probably the only one who has significant playing time in this division, Barkley had a few minor loans but didn't play much I don't think? Ultimately Shelvey probably improved more training at Liverpool than he did playing more regularly here.

I don't buy that - Shelvey improved because he was young and he is still improving as he gets older. If you get the games in the Premiership - all well and good - but if you don't you are better getting the games in the Championship. Steps need to be made at the right time or you can block your career.
  • Yeah no doubt naturally Shelvey was going to improve with age anyway but he had a lot more flaws in his game when he left us which I think were helped by better training staff more so than regular playing time in a worse division. It's as much to do with the team though as anything, Martinez is playing a good style of football and giving youth like Barkley, Stones etc a chance to play so less appearances there wouldn't hurt him so much as there is always potential for progression. A move to Chelsea could be disastrous with their track record on the other hand though.

  • Les Reid said recently that he would much rather young players stay at the pl club with the better training and players than send them on loan to a lower divison. I happen to agree with him. Think poyet will go up another level if he goes to everton under martinez
  • Les Reid - the bloke that fixed English football when he had the chance - that one you mean?

Yeah the one who has helped bring through and develop Luke Shaw, james ward-prowse, luke chambers, adam lallana etc

Did he say that when there were still reserve teams for them to play in?

No, he said it on the sky program he was on with chris powell. But he did mention the reserve league was a good thing
  • Prem clubs want it both ways of course, with the B team concept - Prem club coaching and regular lower-league games. And sod the rest of us...

Mind you, it's thanks to the B team system that Spain are doing so well at international level. Helped plucky Germany get a draw with Ghana, too..
  • Can't believe he said we are begging Poyet to sign
  • No but it doesn't make him the saviour people make him out to be. A lot of the FAs ideas are flawed.
