For me it is not really about the manager / coach but the quality and investment on the pitch in key areas. I am hopeful in seeing passing football that translates from the Academy to the First Team. The key problem in the short term that a decent striker is needed up front.

(I know that some may post that they have tried, are trying, but it is not happening yet, and where is plan B and Plan C if the main strikers they want have not worked out ?

I understand that posters on ITTV mostly did not like Chris Powell and on CL mostly did. I am not sure on ITTV why that has turned into largely uncritical support for RD. There may be a mid to long term plan but the short term strategy is definitely shaky. A need for more quality upfront is something that is clear to all ?

All Charlton supporters want to see goals, and agree that additional quality is needed up front. Charlton fans should be uniting together to encourage Roland to bring a decent striker (and winger if possible) in the last 2 weeks of the emergency transfer window. It could make all the difference.

I suppose ITTV have to be pro board at the moment, Powell is not there now!
Not totally. There is some difference of opinion on there. Why has the removal of the manager, (which should have been done in January when RD arrived at the club) equate to a total approval uncritical approval of RD and application of rosy tinted glassess. There is not a massive difference between before and after. The problems of a lack of a right midfield and striker is still there.

It is not about being oppositional for the sake of it to RD, Powell, Riga, ITTV or CL. We're not Powell supporter, Jose Riga or Roland Duchatelet supporters, we are Charlton supporters first and foremost.
Generally speaking, in life I go with the view of 'actions speak louder than words'.

So far I am not doing cartwheels with what the board have done so far.

Having said that, I appreciate that they are having to clear the mess that was left behind with the previous board.

Polar opposite views were what I was expecting when I posted this. To mock those who believe something is now missing or the 'soul' of the club has forever been tarnished should not be mocked. My original point is that we have been through worse times, but the supporters stood firm and fought for what they believe in. We are now just another club, run by foreign money, with a foreign manager and soon the 'team' will have no identity with the supporters. Regardless of if you wanted Powell to stay or go, you know that come 5pm on a Saturday night, if we had lost you knew that Powell would be as upset as any supporter. The same goes for many of the players, Jackson, Hamer, Hughes, Solley, Harriott obviously care about the club. Do you think these new players will feel the same?

Powell has been treated disgracefully, and I for one will never forget that. It will be very interesting to see how season ticket sales will be affected. My guess is at least 25-35% down.

I've been a Charlton supporter for 35 years, through the tough times and the occasional good times. But I can honestly say I will never feel the same again. They will always be my team, but I cannot attend matches as I feel that my arse in that seat only gives justification on RD's actions and intentions. I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling over the next 2-3 years RD's true intentions will be all to clear and by then it will too late.

Ajdarević obviously cares. I suspect Reza does, too, judging by his body language. Of the others I can make no comment.

In fairness, Nego and Thuram have not really had any chance to make a real impact, so who can tell? I think that some are being a bit harsh - even if you subscribe to the theory we would/have become a mere feeder/reserve outfit, players sent here will know their best chance of being noticed and moving on to better things is if the club and team do well, so I fully expect them to give their best efforts.

It's pretty notable to me that Reza, Polish Pete and Nego are all contracted beyond this season, it seems pretty likely that Ajdarevic may well end up here next season too - RD is not resorting to simply loaning between clubs, there are permanent transfers going too. Some may say that is merely a monetary issue, but I disagree - RD would simply give them permanent contracts at Liege and loan them to Charlton and get the same effect if that were the case. Similarly, Wiggins (probably our most valuable asset and the only one who could realistically play a higher league) got given a contract at Charlton, not dispatched to Belgium.
  • Has Wiggy only just become a dad for the first time, I think I read that?

Would explain why he signed up pretty darn quickly in fairness. Still think he is probably the only player we'd realistically get decent money for if sold so I am glad he's still contracted one way or the other.
