Feck it, I'm just going to have my last feed of the day, get my nappy changed and get mum to put me in the cot. Life will be much better in the morning when I wake up cuddling my teddy bear. Thanks SD.
I would like to know why there are a proportion of fans who state, "get over it", "it's a cycle in football" and "any manager at the bottom would have been sacked"!!
Missing the point slightly.... YES!
It was the way he was sacked! It was sneaky and rude and Powell deserved more. Not just because he was Powell, but no one should be dismissed like that.
Also, he had no support from Roland from day 1. His funding was next to nothing and he was given SL cast offs.... Can you name one manager who would have done better with us based on that?!
It's purely the principle of the whole matter and it's being missed.
As I've said before, (and someone also mentioned above), if it was today's fans; would we have got the valley back?!
My guess is, they would have even told to, "get over it" if it was today!!! Thanks to the fans of the early 90's fighting for what they wanted, we have our ground.

Perspective people!
As I recall there were plenty of people who were saying 'Get over it', 'We're never going back, it ain't going to happen' when we were shunted off to Selhurst. Just as well that more gave a toss. Not that this is exactly the same thing but you get my drift I hope.

Yes lesson here: Fighting for what you want! Well done Floyd.
sorry cray, but you cry babies are bugging me now, powell has gone, do you think any amount of whining will change that
Steve I can accept your apology as long as you don't tell anyone else to get over it... What ever happened between you and Powell shouldn't matter now, we all have relationships that don't quite work out.
People will get over what's happened in there own time.
CP did not buy in to RD's vision of how he wanted the club to move forward. RD gave him a good amount of time to try to reconcile himself to it and they tried to negotiate a contract that would suit, but they could not. How anyone could believe that it was a good thing for the club that this situation should be allowed to continue is beyond me, particularly because it was so obviously not good for CP, who looked increasingly miserable and staying out of loyalty to the club and fans. RD had to act for the good of the club and of CP.
It is interesting that in the last few days anyone who fears for cafc are bullied and harassed by those with no counter arguments
I am in the minority on Kermogant. While he is/was a "legend", in my opinion all he should have been offered was a 1 year deal with a second year at the CLUBS option. If he didn't like those terms he should be moved on. Given his physical style of play, he has been relatively injury free ... how long could that last? There were those on the CL that said he didn't look fit ... how will age help this?
The same for Stephens ... he wasn't going to resign with us and he had value. Better to get something now than nothing later. That's just good business.
Re Stephens I think it was fair enough that he went. As you say, he wasn't going to sign another contract.
With Yann it was always going to be a gamble one way or the other. I can understand why they didn't offer him more but I hoped they'd find a way to keep him to the end of the season. If we go down you can argue it was the wrong decision and if we stay up it was probably the right thing. We won't know until the end.
KentRed - can you not read? I asked you specifically on another thread to tell me what club you do want? Then please tell me how do you intend to pay for it?
The situation is staring you in the face. The club as a trading entity does generate enough funds; - to pay peoples salaries, why do you think the previous lot manufactured the departure of half the admin staff - to offer the 28 players (inc.loans) soon to be out of contract, any improved terms. - to maintain the playing surface which is why it requires a dome to cover it and £500k plus investment in the close season - to invest in new recruits, agents did not even bother to let players come for a trial - it was not worth it, because the club could not even offer players "off the street" a contract. - to invest in Category 1 status for the academy which is why our young players are being "stolen" from the academy.
It is no point whingeing about it - THESE ARE FACTS. Will RD have all the answers to all of the above? I have no idea - we will find out - but to argue people have not offered any alternatives is frankly absolutely ridiculous.
The whole point is RD is offering an alternative. I have tried over 2, 3 even 4 pieces to outline the issues. We even have the bizarre assertions at what RD is offering is a short term solution - he is certainly not - he is looking at ways to make struggling clubs financially viable and still remain competitive.
I apologize if I particularly pick on you with these comments they could apply to so many contributors. So I ask RalphMilne the same questions.
In this scenario you cannot endlessly keep telling people what you do not want. Well you can but it does not get you anywhere - people have been electing governments for decades on the same basis but this is neither a democracy nor do we have the ability to raise taxes to pay for it.
Can you not see the very reason we are now under new ownership is because we have spent our way through large portions of Murrays', Chappells', Murrays' acquaintances' and TJs' mystery investors' fortunes? It has not and will not work without major, major funding and the very real risk of major, major losses even then there is no guarantee, look at Bolton, look at QPR.
I am sure there will have been a number of interested parties in buying the club but each was looking at us in an entirely different perspective. Some were "playing chicken" waiting for us to go into administration, others had real estate in mind. Such people had plenty of opportunity to step in and chose not to.
So it is what it is. Tell us what club you do want, what this mysterious identity is all about, and sadly yes how you pay for it - I will very happily and quite genuinely listen but a list of "I do not wants" doesn't cut it. To achieve anything you have to set out your target and then work out how to get there.
I will add this final thought on Powells' departure. As with Kermorgant he was offered a contract to stay with the club. Would the club have been better served by his staying at the helm? Would he have had the ability to contribute to the plan going forward? Absolutely, which is why he was offered a new contract.
He did not want however to give up his autonomy over team selection. I understand and respect the decisions he made that led to his departure but head coaches on the continent, and most of us in our daily working lives, make such compromises all the time for the good of the clubs, and the businesses, they and we all work for.
That in no way diminishes my respect for the man, but he could still be here.
It's the start of a new era So you either stay on the ride or get off at the next stop It is now that simple We will now move forward ,times are changing in football But you will always get people who don't like change! Powell didnt want to stay for the ride unless it was on His terms so he made his feelings known so the owner told him his ride was over!
My Granddaughter has a genetic disorder called type 2 Mucolipidosis. It is incurable, and life shortening, and she is unlikely to live beyond the age of 7-8.
My best friend has just had most of his right Femur and kneecap replaced because of bone cancer.
Excuse me if I don't join in with the group wrist slitting, and self immolation on The Valley pitch.
But, Grapevine, do you really think the Powell contract situation was handled professionally by the owners? Little by little they edged the rug from under his feet, whilst openly lying to the fans. Then RD interfered with team prep on the day of one of our biggest games in 67 years. So to twist it round and say CP could have chosen to stay is ludicrous! (And I'm not even taking into account the Sky journo's claim that CP did sign the contract...)

They didn't edge the rug from beneath his feet at all so far as I can see. RD has been pretty open from the very beginning that he wants a more European style system with a Head Coach instead of a manager, I don't think he has ever said otherwise. The hypothetical new contract was agreed on in financial terms, it was the extent of Powell's responsibility and influence that was always the sticking point. It's not as if the owners promised him autonomy then suddenly changed their minds - RD and Powell were butting heads over this for some time now.
As far as interfering with the team preparation Im sorry but to me that remains speculative until we see actual evidence and not rumours and hearsay. Powell was much beloved, and still is, including by myself - but he's gone with odd tactical choices and suffered lacklustre performances on several occasions since long before RD was ever on the scene.

I completely disagree with this. Who the feck are you to tell me as a Charlton supporter of many years that if I disagree or show some sceptism about Roland Duchatelet's strategy / motives that I have to get off at the next stop ?
All change is not good, like the move to Selhurst Park or a prospective ground share at the New Den (for instance).
I do not have to show blind faith to the new owners vision. Trust is earned. RD has not strengthened the team yet. The short term strategy to avoid relegation is not working so far. That has not changed. I wish it fecking would. It is bad business to produce a team that lacks the ability to score goals. This makes me question RDs strategy. If the short term strategy is flawed, is the mid term or long term going to be any better ? I am waiting to see if all the PR teasers / prompts fed to Into the Valley about great things to come will come to pass or are over hyped.
RD should have made a decent settlement with Chris Powell in January and brought his own caretaker coach from the off. The majority of Charlton supporters would have accepted that. RD would have be able to kept Charlton supporters on board. It is bad business to alienate 1/3 half your customer / supporter base. Totally unnecessary as well.
I am not questioning ur support of Charlton as proved on weds we were still Behind the club and players What I am saying is it's rd s club now and he will basically do as he pleases so we can Either support and go with it? What alternatives are there that are going to make a difference to the club?
I agree with RM. In addition to the treatment of CP, I just don't feel like it's my/our Charlton anymore. Football needs more characters like CP in it. And less like RD and the ilk. I'm going to be working overseas so won't be renewing my season ticket anyway. But not sure I would if I was still in London. I really fear for the future of our club and it's history and values etc
Chris Powell's strength was building a team with terrific team spirit. For that he needs control over who he brings in. He does produce tactically flawed set ups on a fairly regularly basis that was exacerbated by the removal of quality in the squad by RD. RD and Chris Powell was never going to work. It should have been sorted out at the beginning.
You are kidding yourself if you think that Chris Powell had any future at the club. RD always had his own coach ready for the summer. The 'offering' of the contract was never real.
I was sick of watching poor football. This was never just down to Chris Powell. It is also down to the lack of quality in the squad and the terrible pitch. I really disagree with those on ITTV and CL that says that it is all down to his leadership. It was a combination of factors and the lack of acknowledgement of that concerning.
It is important because without acknowledging the need for some quality, then the results will not significantly change and Charlton risk relegation.
Weegie, Let me be clear I am not happy that Powell is no longer with the club.
I appreciate message boards are all about speculation, rumour and debate but there are only 2 people who know what happened and if they have any professional discipline none of us will know the nature of the debate that has gone on.
Ultimately it does not matter if, when, how, why and when a contract between two parties is signed if there is the two parties do not fundamentally embrace the agreement enshrined therein.
It used to drive me nuts when working in the States where endless teams of corporate lawyers spend more time looking to exploit every possible get out clause before we even signed bloody contracts.
