  • Pure class from Chris, but I don't expect anything different. Shame he's no longer manager thought at the end of last season with a bit of investment the good times weren't far off.
  • He was such a credit to our club.
  • class oozes from every inch of the mans body
  • A credit to his profession.
  • He was such a credit to our club.

    A credit to his profession.

    Both of these.
  • Utterly typical of a great man. He'll be back at some point. I'm convinced of it. As in that truly wonderful Vera Lynn classic (12 inch version, dance mix)) "We'll Meet Again, Don't Know Where, Don't Know When......." etc etc
  • Large - yes, I have read on a couple of threads (no idea which ones now!) that it was more that they couldn't reach agreement - in fact, Grapevine suggested that the fault lay with both - ie Powell for not accepting the way RD wanted to work.

It was New York Addick, and that's not what he said! He merely suggested that if CP had been prepared to meet RD halfway then he wouldn't have been sacked. Nobody has ever suggested that CP wasn't sacked.
  • What a classy bloke, wish him all the best in the world. We would be lucky to ever get him back.

  • A man so classy must be the messiah, let us put up images of Chrissy Powell and pray for his second coming!
  • Very nice words from a true Legend...

Will he get any compensation seeing his Contract was due to end in three months anyway?
  • True class and humility. Hope you come back again one day. Good luck!

thankyou chrissy Powell what a amazing top man

It's not a question of fault/blame - RD has been pretty consistent with his vision for how the club was going to be run in the future. Powell could buy into it, or not, and play the cards accordingly. He has done so. I will second every single comment on here praising Powell as a man and as player, I cannot think of a single person in recent club history who more epitomises Charlton values more than Chris Powell. But he has made mistakes and unfortunately, the piper has wanted paying.
  • True class, as always.

True but Powell was quoted many times saying that the takeover was a good thing, that he thought RD had a good vision and that he would be stupid not to use the network available to him. I think it's pretty clear he was prepared to buy into it. But perhaps the extent of that was the disagreement...
  • Class. Yes, I cried reading it
  • Our clubs loss will quite simply be another clubs gain. Our club is far poorer for not retaining this great mans services
  • They broke the mould after Chris Powell was made. He oozes class and I will always wonder where he could have taken us if he'd had the backing of a board that appreciated just how lucky they were. Huge, huge opportunity missed and that breaks my f**king heart.

  • Agreed AUN.
  • Stayed 100% classy with that when I can imagine it was very tempting to take a dig at everything that's occurred.

    Top man.
  • Hope that I'm wrong but I feel Roland will come to realise
that this is the biggest mistake he has ever made sacking CP.
The quote only time will tell will come back to bite him!
On just over 12,000 against Huddersfield, unless something
drastic happens I can see the crowds getting lower.
Goals bring crowds back and entertaining football.
He certainly just seem to worry about a decent goalscorer!
  • One word. Legend. Still gutted he is gone. Glad this week is over with and what a chuff day Tuesday was. Deserved better and will do better.
  • Good grief SteveK - we actually agree on something !

I suspect that we would actually agree on quite a lot, it's just that when I get a cob on, I tend to turn into something of a knob - or at least that's what my wife would have you believe...
Great, great man who will go on to do great things in the game. Won't get any argument from me on that.
  • We will never ever have a manager like him again where the club means so much . Am extremely sad to see him go, just remember to the people that wanted him gone, remember what you wish for . Good luck chris and thanks for a great 3 years, may your next club treat with you the respect you deserve and should of received by us.

Sadly RD won't understand the enormity of what he's done. You can't run a slide rule over emotions and understanding the ferocity of love that supporters hold for their club requires someone who is dedicated to football. IMO, RD's statistical and, in my opinion, socially maladjusted approach to life will ultimately prove to be his undoing. Football, more than any other business, is about passion and this aspect just passes him by. It's not his fault, it's just who he is and how his brain works.
  • Great statement, no bitterness, top guy. All the best.
  • What a fantastic example he is to us all.
As gutted as he must feel he refrains from any bitterness.
I have a feeling we will see him again one day.
    Dunno why.....
    True true Gent,
    Good luck Sir CP.
