  • 1. If the players are good enough to get Standard interested, they'll more than likely be good enough to get most PL clubs interested.
    2. The players won't move to Standard if they know of PL interest. We have seen evidence of this already with Diego Poyet's twitter promise.

In the end, the players themselves hold all the aces. RD cannot force anyone to sign a contract for Standard Liege, nor can he force anyone to sign a contract for Charlton.
  • Sorry but I didn't see Thuram in goal or Nego at right back tonight ...nor Koc nor polish Pete did I miss something or were they all being rested for Saturday. The only conspiracy going on is how to get the best out of the squad and secure three points.
Oh and Poyet and Cousins were there but probably nipped off to catch the last Eurostar back to Bruges FFS

So why bring them if so bad they can't even get into the team who are bottom of league?
  • Feeder club - No
    Nursery club - Yes

Very good point, MrOneLung. These players were brought in supposedly to help CAFC get out of our current position, but they add nothing if they are on the bench or not in the squad at all. It would have been better for Powell to have been allowed to spend some money on one player from League One or Two that he wanted, or to bring in a loan from a Premier League side.
  • I guess the deal is that if Solly, Cousins, Poyet, Wiggins and Parsyzek get moved over to Liege to play in Europe, it adds further value. If you say Solly is worth £2.5m, and goes to Liege for a season and gets experience in Europe, suddenly he's worth £4.5m, so can either help SL with the riches on offer in the CL or be sold for more than we'd have sold him for under our previous ownership model.

  • Here we go folks, proof is in the pudding. Dreke may I ask how long RD has been in charge at STVV? And how you have been going in the league, do fans enjoy it?

Just look for my post in the beginning of January. The similarity between what I saw happening to us and what I read here, it is noteworthy.
  • I think you're putting 2+2 together Seth and getting 5

It looks as though he likes to be actively involved in transfers, what about team selection? Would he leave our manager alone?

The system in Belgium is most of the times different. In England, you have managers who select the team and do transfers. In Belgium, we have a trainer. He is responsible for training, tactics and team selections. Most of the time they only have a word to say about transfers, but they don't have the final call. That's something for the Technical Director. Duchatelet certainly gets involved in transfers. He also likes to give his opinion in public about players, tactics etc. I'm not sure if he will get involved in team selection at Charlton.

Also, what type of players does he like to loan between clubs? Young players, veterans, or does it depend who is loaning to who?

Difficult one. Most of the time it are you players. So they can get experience in other teams where they have more chance of playing.

Am i right in thinking the problems only arose when he became owner of more than one Belgian club?

No, the problems were there before. He sees himself as a revolutionair. First he put us in giant debt by trusting some people too much, than he wanted to balance the books too soon. With the relegation as a result. He changes his mind on football matters as I change my underwear (Dutch expression).

Would you have any advice as to how fans should approach or interact with Roland? It would be nice to try to head off any problems before they happen, I know we have very little power because we are a rich mans plaything, but is there any chance he might develop a regard, a respect, even a bit of love for Charlton?

His people skills are below zero imho. He doesn't know how to interact with fans. One of his biggest problems is communication. Het might develop some sympathy, but love? No. Charlton is business for him. Just like all his other teams.

The negative views have come from STVV fans so far. I'd like to hear the views of some Liege fans, just in case there's an upside to all of this.

We (STVV fans) are pussies compared to the Standard fans.
