  • I was "there" on your Mum's birthday when BWP slotted home and we were back from oblivion.
Sad that we are going back there again, but nothing can take away the good times over the 2 years.
    Thanks and best wishes.
  • The saddest day in my 24 years as a supporter.

You transformed us from a shambles into a team that played with the same determination, passion and skill that you displayed as a player. Unfortunately we can only dream of what you would have achieved for your club with even a minimal amount of support from your employers.

No need to wish you good luck with your career as there's no doubt your destined for the top, just wish it had been with us.

    Thanks for the memories.
  • Thanks for everything Chris, both as a player and in the dugout.

You're a true gent and performed miracles when turning a bunch of strangers into record-breaking Champions. Given the right circumstances I have no doubt that you could and would have done the same in the Championship. I hope you are given the opportunity to do so in the future, but am hugely gutted that it won't be with us.

You will always be a legend in my eyes.
  • Absolutely disgraceful the way you have been treated. I had every confidence that we would have stayed up under your guidance. Thanks for the League One title Chris and your love and passion for this club. You will always be a Charlton legend and I am sure you will go on to bigger and better things in your managerial career. Good luck.
  • Hi Chris,
Thanks for the passion, the pride and the commitment. Thanks for the skill as a manager. I still believe in your abilities and so should you. Thanks for spreading some happiness around the club and for wearing your heart on your sleeve and for caring. Go on from here and achieve great things. I am so sad to see you go and I wish you weren't. But thanks for what you did, Charlton Legend. :-)

  • I agree with the sentiments of the post .. Thanks for all the good times you gave the fans and the effort you put into the job Chris and ALL the very best in whatever you do in the future
  • Chris,
I am absolutely certain that given the proper backing you would have continued the recovery of the club, on and off the field.
No manager should have his best players sold against his wishes and replaced by reserves from ' The Company' that are cheap and not up to standard.
Thank you for what you have done and i wish you every success at your next club.
Maybe one day when this 'Bloke from Belgium' sells up or gets fed up then you can return, you will always be welcome.
  • Thanks Chris,
    Good luck in the future.

Thanks for the title winning season of 2011/12. A manager who gave us a team to be proud of after years of mis-management and gave us our Charlton back. Today is a sad, sad day in the history of Charlton Athletic.

All the best for the future.

  • Finding it difficult to say anything, as there's so much I want to say, but I seem to have got something in my eye which is making it water...well, in both eyes actually.

I remember the visiting Derby fans giving a huge ovation to their former player just after we signed you as a player in the Premiership - that's when I first realised someone special had arrived at Charlton. You came and went - and came back again as a player, and I was as delighted as anyone when you scored that goal against Coventry - a magic moment.

I was reading this forum late one night when the Club was in turmoil after the Dowie/Reid/Pardew/Parky shambles. Someone posted that they'd heard you were in for the manager's job. At that moment it just felt right - why had no-one thought of you before?! Finally a glimmer of hope. I made sure I got to the Plymouth home match - in fact helped with the big flag round the ground - to give you the welcome you deserved. Chris, you've done us so proud both on and off the pitch these last three years and you really have given us our Charlton back.

I've had the pleasure to meet you briefly on a few occasions at the sponsors' dinner - yes, I was the one who always demanded a hug and tried to persuade you to re-sign Ricci Fuller last year...You made my day at the Forest home match this season when I was the matchday sponsor for my birthday, and you not only shook my hand as we left the pitch at kick-off, but you recognised me and gave me another hug.

There aren't many in football like you, Chris. Thank you so much for everything you have given to Charlton - quite clearly you put your heart and soul into this club. I wish you every success in the world wherever you end up - you deserve it, but I also know that you will achieve it. (Just please don't go anywhere near Palace again - ever!!)

And let's hope one day you come back home to Charlton - it's already not the same without you.
  • My thoughts and thank you's to Powell and how his sacking has ruined my birthday.

  • Chris

As a player and as a manager you embodied everything that has made our Club special in the last 20 years.

You will go on to further success in the game.

I can only dream that one day you will return.
  • He will return as a manager again one day like he did as a player.

Said it himself, it's a marriage.

Good luck Chris, again, and conquer the world of football up to your potential somewhere else.

    Chris

Thank you for all you have done for Charlton Athletic as a man, player and manager. I've been a supporter for than fifty years and you rank in my personal top three or four people during that time in terms of overall contribution.

Good luck for the future. I have no doubt that you will have a successful career in management. I just wish it could have continued to be with us.
  • Devastated you won't be here anymore, thanks for giving us our Charlton back over the last couple of years. You are a hero to my 8 year old and he met you at the last 2 Christmas parties and has his picture with you on his wall. Not looking forward to telling him the news this evening. Charlton lost it's soul today.

Best of luck in your future career. Thank you.
  • Thank you for one of the best days of my life at Carlisle and all that preceded and followed. You deserved a hell of a lot better.
  • Thanks for reminding us of what proper Charlton feels like

  • Thanks Chris I admire you for standing by your guns. We'll always love you come back with another club and you'll see that. THanks for everything

    Gutted

    Legend
  • All the best and good luck
  • Thank you for everything Chris, for your time here as both a player and a manager. This is a very sad day as we have lost an amazing man with the best intentions of our club at heart.

There were so many happy memories under your reign that I will hold with me forever and never forget.

CAFC doesn't deserve you after the way you have been treated. You are a special man and a special manager.

    CAFC legend.

    Devastated.
  • Great man, made me proud to support Charlton
  • If, Chrissie Powell, you are still harbouring some misgivings about swinging on the crossbar at Hillsborough - DON"T. It was a typically spontaneous, joyful, connection with us supporters that said everything about your great relationship with us and with the REAL Charlton. So sad that it is our final happy memory of your time at Charlton, but a fitting one.

You were one of my favourite Charlton players in more than 50 years of support, and by far my favourite character. That beaming smile, the tunnel jumps, the tears when we won promotion, the immense dignity under such difficult circumstances.

You are and always will be a Charlton legend. Thank you for so many happy memories. God bless you and your family. You will be back as a manger, you will succeed, have no doubt.
  • Absolutely gutted to have heard this at 8am.........still in shock now. Thank you for the memories both as a player and as Manager. Winning League One was absolutely brilliant. Terrible treatment getting rid.

    Once again, cheers Chrissy!
  • You are, and always will be, Charlton. You have us our Charlton back. I can't thank you enough for everything you did for my club! You embody everything any club could want in a Manager.

I wish you all the best with your future Chris, we were lucky to have you!
  • Good luck Chris - I too would find it hard to do my job with one hand tied behind my back and the goalposts moving all the time.

As fans we can be blinkered with love and affection for our players/managers but I feel the true reflection of the man you are, is the esteem you are held in throughout the game by your peers. This speaks volumes to me.

  • Thanks, Chris, a real, real shame and a huge loss for Charlton. You're a decent man, and you brought belief back to this club after years of despondency. Not to mention some much better times. You did everything you could and more in the circumstances. Good luck in the future, you deserve to do well in football management.
  • Thanks Chris my 1st game back to charlton after an extended abcense was your first game been great times following your team round the country.
