Thanks Chris for everything you gave us and always giving us your all. Thanks for the passion you showed as a player, manager and even as a fan and for happily shouting loudly about your feelings for OUR club. Thank you for making us feel good and proud about our club again. But most of all just thanks for being a decent man. We're proud of you.
Not happy with how you've been treated and wish you the best in your future. Given the support and time that was withdrawn from you here, I've no doubt you will be successful.
Here's a great picture, still in the official website, that sums it up... " United we stand, divided we fall" I for one fear the future has taken a turn for the worse, Thanks, Chris, from a supporter who really appreciates all you've done over the years as a player and a coach, Best wishes for the future,
Chris. It has just struck me what we have lost. You are. Charlton like all of us on here. A great man and a wonderful player. You were learning your trade and I think someone else will now reap the real rewards. Good luck, I hope you come back one day, somehow, I think you will.
The only silver lining from this whole fiasco is that you can leave with your head held high-you'll always be a Charlton legend, as a player; the first England international for years and then, as a manager, getting our record points tally. No one can ever take those things away from you or the club.
Also, beyond the accolades and achievements, you are a top bloke-proven to me personally after the QPR game recently where you took time out of your post match duties to meet me and my friends (who had won a board room experience at the Back to the Valley Dinner) and posed for all the photographs and were as friendly and courteous as could be despite our drunkeness.
You've been a fixture at the Valley (on and off) for many years and will be sorely missed. Fingers crossed we 'll see you back there soon!
Good luck Chris Top player Total professional Top manager Top Bloke Will miss you, thanks for the memories. Don't let this get you down, you will be back all the better from this experience.
What a wonderful man, where ever he went, who ever he met, he was a true ambassador for the game. He brought back the passion and fight that was missing for so long, certainly in the Curbs mould. I wish him and his family all the very best and know he will be snapped up very quickly by another club.....CP A big Thank you for giving us our Charlton back, you will be sorely missed. Need a sectioned named in memory.
Can we keep this thread open as an announcement please? I don't think the full extent of my sadness about this has reached the surface, I'm not allowing it. When I got the text off my old man saying Powells been sacked, it went right through me like a shudder of something you can't feel. I'm repressing the reality of this in my mind and likely to pull off the "thanks" essay of a life time when it really hits home in a couple of days.
Perhaps, Sometimes it's best to say nothing.
A lot of the previous thanks messages have almost got me well-in up. Coverd ends one was powerful stuff.
When Chris was announced As our new manager I you tubed one of my parents' favourite old tunes and spent the days to the run up of his first home appearance singing it and all the following week after. I was glad to hear it played at the Valley that day too. Everything was going to be alright from then on as there was a man back to get a grip on the rotting, stagnant, decayed club we had become. And it was (well, after your first half season).
I'm not going to talk about the footballing attributes (why break a habit). But having a man in charge who was so clearly fond of our club meant so much to many of us.
I am sorry to see Chris go but relieved in a way as he deserves to be treated so much better and hope he gets a new chance real soon. Good luck Chris.
By the way as a man, dude you have got it going on!
Bit more ear worm to remind myself of that happy day when he came home. Don't click play if you want to keep your street cred Or if you don't want to feel crap!
Chris, have a good break and get this experience out of your system, I think we could all see how frustrated you were with the constant undermining of your position.
Your one of life's good guys Chris, stay true to yourself, I'm hoping you'll get to the top and manage England one day.
From when you first joined the club as a player, to doing a q and a in Bartrams with Gav Peacock, to lifting the league one trophy at the Valley, thankyou for putting pride and more importantly fun back into supporting Charlton.
Take your time choosing another job, the right job for you and your family, but know that you will always be fondly loved at the Valley.
Like everybody else on here i would just like to say "Thank you chris for everything that you did at cafc" No matter who the new owner puts in charge, you are the Guvnor.
Your club Chris and it always will be, it's difficult to comprehend how much you were thought of simply because you cared. I hope the door is always open for you down here, life's a journey and I hope one day you'll be back at the club in some capacity or other. We're richer of having had you as our manager and poorer for you leaving but we know you're gonna be a great success wherever you go. Passion, respect, dignity, composure a breath of fresh air in the modern game ;-)
Thanks for everything, you have been badly let down, the vast majority of Charlton supporters know this. You will always be welcome at the Valley. Good luck my friend.
A few years back when Sven named his first squad I turned up for a team meeting at work. Before the meeting started my colleagues presented me with an England shirt with 'Powell' '3' on the back - they new how much it meant to me to see one of our players called up, and not just any player!! I wore that shirt with pride again when you managed your first game at The Valley and I wore it again, with a heavy heart, last night. As has been said Chris, our club will be a poorer place without you.
So, until the stars realign and you return to our club again, I wish you well and thank you for the memories.
I along with everyone else have been very proud to have you associated with us and will continue to be proud cos where ever you go and whatever you do, we know you're flying our flag. You're the best ambassador any club could get....
....and also, along with everyone else, I look forward to the future return of one of the clubs favorite sons! The very best of luck in the meantime ok
this reminds me of our hero princess, Lady Di dying, conspiracy theories, unexplained deaths, carry on guys, it is an amazing spectacle, I hope this site is still going in a couple of years where we can capture all of the grieveing for posterity. it brings a tear to my eye, even more than when I heard Andy Nelson was leaving.
I've had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with you twice through supporters club meetings when I was home in 2012. You left me with the feeling of being in the presence of a great and humble man.
I've had the immense pleasure and total pride of singing your name at the very top of my lungs, none more than when the second goal for Cardiff went in on that amazing night at the valley.
And it is with pride and pleasure that I have one of your signed shirts and a photo of us adorned on my wall here in Australia.
Our club has been very fortunate to have you both as a player and manager.
I do not fear for your future, you sir I believe, are destined for greatness.
