Loan Window expectations...

  • Am I missing something or do we no longer hold a weekly press conference on a Thursday anymore?
  • I think the window closed at 5pm so that's it! We have to rely on what we've got!
  • I see that Blackpool have signed Vellios on loan from Everton. Good signing for them - just the sort of out of favour Prem player that would have been welcome for us.
  • I thought it closed at 12 tonight?
  • If it is 12 midnight, do we still have a chance of Chris Eagles and Derek Boateng? who were both on our radar.
  • I don't agree - if we stay up, we'll deserve it.
  • I don't agree - if we stay up, we'll deserve it.

If we manage to stay up, it will have involved a totally unnecessary involvement with a relegation scrap.

  • I have faith in the players we have and Jose leading us upwards if Eagles decided not to join, that's his loss !
  • We didn't need to sell Yann and we certainly didn't need to spend that money for PP.

Summer window will be interesting if we stay up. We bid over £1m for Max Gradel, we've been willing to pay the big wages for Eagles, SWP, Wickham and more. Think the negative press Roland and the Liege link is getting has hampered us a little, plus I reckon Powell and Roland disagreeing behind the scenes also hasn't helped.
  • Quite agree about Eagles - his loss. If things play out as I cautiously hope they will and we stay safe then spend some money to move forward next, then he will be regretting staying with Bolton.

Roland transfer dealings have been poor IMO. I see PL54, Yann and Adam Addick have laughed at comment above. Come on then explain to me how the team is stronger than when he came in. Not impressed.

I am see it is the not allowed to pass critical opinion on Roland time.

(This has feck all to do with Powell or Riga or coach. It is about the owners and management team. How the feck has the right midfield weakness not been addressed ? Where is the plan B and C when the players they tried for fell through ?).

when you put in offers to pay all of connor wickhams wages, or deals for leon best, swp, chris eagles but they dont want to come here you call that RD's incompetence ?

Now the window has officially closed. I understand that is that regarding players coming in. I am completely underwhelmed by the Roland transfer dealings. It has not addressed weaknesses in the team. An addition of a striker and right midfield would have seen Charlton easily safe. The only striker, I am happy with is the return of Obika. If Charlton manage to stay up it will be more down to luck than from any competence from Roland and his team.

Surely Obika is the new striker we wanted and Davide Petrucci can play right midfield, problem solved.

David Petrucci is right footed and plays on the right on midfield ? Or he is left footed and plays centre midfield ? Not having a go at the player, and will give them a chance but he has Loic Nego type stats as well.

always liked Danny H he wasnt given much of a chance at Champs level.

    Good luck

I'd say he was given a decent chance last season and was obviously not of the required standard for this division. That's doesn't mean he's not well thought of - in the promotion campaign he was an important part of the midfield.

So, all the best Danny, thanks for the service you gave, just don't score against us if you play against us!

This ^ , rd tried he offered the right wages and a few players turned us down it happens all the time to other teams aswell , I think next year if we stay up then we could be seeing some quality players down the valley what with a new pitch ect. Good times to come .

He has just come back from 18 months injury, so I wouldn't look too closely at the stats from Antwerp.

The reports from the United reserve games lately seem promising.

Let's just see how he does here and where JR plays him.

Absolutely where was the alternate plan, perhaps it would have been wise not to weaken the team before selling off KMG / Stephens and not renewing Cameron Stewarts loan (remember him ?). Where is the back up plan ? Why live everything to the last minute ?

Is this coming to happen again that the end of the season when the squad needs significant rebuilding ?

Maybe he started at the other end of the alphabet and if so there's a while to go yet before we get to plan C let alone B :-0
  • Anyone with positives, all I read is if we stay up , its WHEN WE STAY UP !!!!!!

Predictable response. You & Athletico haven't stopped whinging for about a month :-)

If we stay up it won't be luck. Riga's doing a lot better than Powell, it saddens me to say.
Jeez Louise. Not fecking true. It has nothing to do with the whole Riga vs Powell thing. Roland should have been decisive and changed manager / coach in January which I have consistently said on CL. Not impressed by Roland's player dealings. It does not fill me with hope that the strategy is going to be well executed in the future. I support the club and am OK with Riga. Not impressed with the lack of strengthening in the team.

I hope your right VG. Would be happy for the player to do well and find a home at Charlton.

I doubt many are impressed with the lack of signings, but we have gone for some top names, who have declined us & it's been well documented. It's not for the want of trying it would seem.

Wickham - we agreed to pay all of his considerable wages, but he didn't want to head south.

Best - ditto, but he didn't want to head south, as his girlfriend is pregnant.

SWP - Stonking rich, ex-England international, doesn't want to join us. Hardly a surprise.

Williams - didn't want to join Palace's rivals. Went to Ipswich, even though we outbid them.

Becchio - didn't want to come, not sure why.

Eagles didn't want to come, although terms agreed with Bolton.

oh yeah the cameron stewart that turned us down and went to leeds, CP said that they were always talking to stewarts reps about renewing the loan but he decided to go elsewhere thats not RD's fault

RD has said that he will not be running the clubs its the managements job to do it, so if you are going to have ago at someone (which you shouldnt as theyve tried there best to get in the best players) it would be katrien or whoever else is working with her. RD wont be responsible for any of the loans incoming or outgoing, he just signs the cheque. Its upto the higher management to offer deals they want. Even though we havent got the players in we wanted, im not going to hold it against RD or anyone because at least they tried. If the players say no what can you do.
