The number of times I shake my head in disbelief reading some comments on here at the moment is seriously on the rise. Thuram is a proven top level goalkeeper in French Ligue 1 which for anybody who dares watch football outside blighty on BT Sports, formerly ESPN or Eurosport will testify is not Conference standard. He was competing until recently with Japan's no 1 and was 2nd choice - no big deal, bar for him who wanted games in the run up to the World Cup.
Alnwick was in fine form, maybe a purple patch, but he has been a journeyman loanee for most of his career.
Regardless of Alnwick's form, something had to be done with our squad this window, a serious shake up has now happened. No single player should and can be balmed for us being in the bottom 3, but what is clear is that the squad that took us to a week ago simply was not cutting it in the Championship this season, after punching above their weight last year.
Powell is now shaking the tree and I am pleased to see RD being patient with him thus far.
The Wigan result with 3-4 newbies in play was not a bad result. From what I have read the 2nd half was poor, but in the life of a football club it will be just another statistic which doesn't look bad on paper. We should start to judge in 3-4 games time after the new players have settled in and been given a chance to show CP and us what they can do to help us get out of the bottom three.
What I do genuinely believe is that we should get right behind our new players, God forbid they read some of the tosh on here - so bloody unwelcoming from some quarters. For those that have been watching long enough, what would have happend to Sweaty Balmer after his debut if this mode of comms were available? He'd have been ripped to shreds and disposed of in a wink by many of our fans. Thankfully we lived in different times and players were allowed to settle down and go onto double centuries of appearances with a little more patience on show.
Let's focus on getting behind the class of 2014, it may provide us a solid platform for next season after all, regardless of whether that is Championship or worst case, League 1.
