  • Very interesting report and puts in context some of the assumptions being made.
  • Paul, is that from the post-match press conf ?

Did anyone ask anything about the goalkeeping situation, the release of Alnick etc ?
  • Can someone cut and paste please
  • From the post-match presser at Wigan, yes.

Wasn't me who was there though.

I will happily ask about Alnwick when I see CP on Thursday provided he hasn't already answered that question from someone else before then.
  • Good to read that Powell is staying and is being as positive as possible about his relationship with the owner. Let's trust that he can get the new boys organised quickly. The result at Wigan, although we were mostly under the cosh, must be both encouraging and demoralising .. if you see what I mean .. the 'Thuram situation' is a worry .. he alone could ensure relegation, he is NOT up to standard for the conference let alone the championship. In time I hope the reasons behind his persistent inclusion will be made clear. One thing is certain, even following the departure of Alnwick and Pope, Thuram is not the best keeper at the club
  • That is the same story as last week isn't it i.e. not much else he can say and no real comment on his best players being sold.
  • I am very positive about CP & RD working together and this just adds to that.

I'm not, think it has disaster written all over it. Most concerning are the rumours of Powell playing Alwnick instead of Thuram for Donny and then him being sold 2 days later.
  • Its good to see those comments... I know as well there have been a lot of conspiracy theories about who is picking the team yet we've got a foreign owner who has a number of other clubs to worry about - As Powell says in the above article he's an extremely busy man (running his own standard businesses as well I'm guessing) so does he really have the time to pick the teams for Charlton / Liege / St-Truden / Ujpest / Alcorcon and Carl Jena Zeiss? (i.e. I know other family members "own" some of them clubs but I bet they still report back to Daddy RD)

Time will tell when Hamer is fit again - that is assuming he is still out injured!

Correct. Dosn't mean a thing until he's got a new contract.

  • I still think his job is on the line regardless unless results drastically improve. Unless we start winning he will be gone whether its now or the end of the season. Why would Roland renew his contract if we get relegated?
  • why would a Caretaker Manager get the job after loosing very game ? its CAFC nothing is ever as it seems.

Hamer is injured. Personally I think the goalie put the whole team under a lot of pressure at Wigan with his flapping and refusal to catch anything. I'd hope Hamer would come straight back in.
  • Great news. New long term contract please.
  • I was told at the weekend that Powell signed a contract last Thursday
  • I was told at the weekend that Powell signed a contract last Thursday

I think if this were true Yann might still be a Charlton player.
  • it seems as though Alnwick is a name that shall not be mentioned. I hope Newshopper does ask because that is the bizarre transfer of the lot.
  • Good stuff from Powell. Not letting stuff get to him and not appearing to take the informal belittling personally. Other managers would be straight out the door. Powell knows he could and would get a decent enough job somewhere else.

Sounds like I'm right up CP's arse here, but hes showing strength and his heart is with us.

    Okay, here's my conspiracy theory:

Alnwick told that Thuram's got to start.

Alnwick tells Powell that he's not going to sit on the bench and that he can stuff his effing club where the sun don't shine.

    RD says okay, get rid.

As I said, just a conspiracy theory .......

    ;o)

Out of interest who was the last manager to walk out of a club and pass on the opportunity of compensation?

Holloway walked. Not sure if he agreed some compo though.

I think that is close to the truth with the added ingredient that Leyton Orient a club he had previously played for who are only accross the River from us were desperate for a keeper and offered us a modest 'undisclosed' fee for the last six months of his contract.

This move means Alnwick could be back in the CCC come May and could walk away on a free if he isn't.

What is reckless is that we have done this when Hamer is injured. I think we have made a massive mistake,I hope I'm proved wrong.

  • Sounds like I'm right up CP's arse here, but hes showing strength and his heart is with us.

Sorry Dave but what he has to show us is points, starting Saturday.

We can't possibly know about Thuram yet. He's played at a level that Hamer hasn't and did very well by all accounts taking him to the verge of International honours and a World Cup place. He's two games in to his Charlton career and not only that is still adjusting to life in English football. He comes with a pedigree. Foolish to write him off at this point IMHO.

Foolish to write him off, fully agree.

But equally foolish to blood him in key games when you are on the edge of the relegation zone and already have a perfectly adequate other option. (or did).

Maybe or maybe not. If we had just loaned England's fourth choice keeper I suspect most would be expecting him to start. I admit that perhaps Thuram should be given time to adjust to Charlton and England but if he's generally accepted as a better keeper then you should pick him.

  • The keeper situation is the one reason I fear for what's going on. Although gutted Yann's gone, I could cope with that, but selling Alnwick who was in the best form of a CAFC keeper I'd seen for years... And (probably) being forced to play Thuram... that's the problem for me.

Well, it's a theory, yes but where's the conspiracy precisely? It's just a series of hypothetical events.

This from Wiki: some psychologists believe that immoderate application of conspiracy theory is attractive to those with certain mental illnesses and disorders.

How is your Shrink Oggy? ;-)
