The keeper situation is the one reason I fear for what's going on. Although gutted Yann's gone, I could cope with that, but selling Alnwick who was in the best form of a CAFC keeper I'd seen for years... And (probably) being forced to play Thuram... that's the problem for me.

This, players come and players go but the rumour concerning CP being told to play Thurman if he is fit does not sit well with me.

I don't think it is a rumour - it is people making assumptions

Well the moment Hamer appears on the bench and therefore fit and Thuram starts I guess we'll have a real question to ask.
  • I was told at the weekend that Powell signed a contract last Thursday

I think if this were true Yann might still be a Charlton player.
You think Yann would take a pay cut to stay playing for Powell ?

I said "might" still be a Charlton player. If the rumours last week were to be believed that a lot of players were un-settled due to CP not being offered a contract who knows. Yann stated he was happy living in London and his family were settled so it remains to be seen.

Looking at the interview he did for Bournemouth TV he hardly looked over the moon with his new pay increase. He had more a look of bewilderment on his face that said "what the f*@k am I doing here"
  • If Yann is unhappy at Bournemouth in a month's time, we could bring him back on an emergency 'loan' ?

I'm sure it'll be an emergency by then.

    ;o)

PS: He could be our Cherry on the cake.
    (I didn't really say that, did I? )

  • The question is who is the better keeper. If Chrissy thinks Thuram is better than Hamer - well no problem. If he doesn't and want's to drop him and can't - more of an issue. Thuram is rated much higher on FIFA 14! lol - so maybe not an issue.

It's not assumptions is it. Powell currently has no choice but to play Thuram. When he did have a choice he didn't play him.

the 'Thuram situation' is a worry .. he alone could ensure relegation, he is NOT up to standard for the conference let alone the championship.

Strange you should say that Lincs considering he is apparently on the verge of being included in the French World Cup squad. Is he really that bad?

  • Good to read that Powell is staying and is being as positive as possible about his relationship with the owner. Let's trust that he can get the new boys organised quickly. The result at Wigan, although we were mostly under the cosh, must be both encouraging and demoralising .. if you see what I mean .. the 'Thuram situation' is a worry .. he alone could ensure relegation, he is NOT up to standard for the conference let alone the championship. In time I hope the reasons behind his persistent inclusion will be made clear. One thing is certain, even following the departure of Alnwick and Pope, Thuram is not the best keeper at the club

We can't possibly know about Thuram yet. He's played at a level that Hamer hasn't and did very well by all accounts taking him to the verge of International honours and a World Cup place. He's two games in to his Charlton career and not only that is still adjusting to life in English football. He comes with a pedigree. Foolish to write him off at this point IMHO.

Foolish to write him off, fully agree.

But equally foolish to blood him in key games when you are on the edge of the relegation zone and already have a perfectly adequate other option. (or did).

This .. and if Shooters Hill had ever seen him 'live' he would know that as of now, Thuram is one step above clueless as a professional keeper

    yes he is
  • Of the 3 goalkeepers, which were the best 2?

I have not seen Thuram live so I have yet to form an informed opinion. On the face of it we have kept the best two. I hope we have, but the next 5 or 6 games will give us the answers.

let's give everyone a modicum of time before judging.

    Did Powell tell you this?
  • At least one other senior player was being forced to go out on loan to a rival. Played most games this season and this was against Powells wishes. Unbelievable ! It fell through last minute !

    What?

    Who was that?

    Tell us more...
  • Nice and vague, perfect for a rumour against owners.

    Not buying it.

I think he means because we have no other senior keeper that is fit.

  • Evina has not played most games though (and nor has Fox if it was him you were talking about)!

I think you have answered your own question. When he had the chance he didn't play Thuram. At the moment he has no other fit keeper so of course he has to play Thuram.

Must agree, just drop that little pebble in the internet pond and watch the ripples spread... there'll be a dozen stories about who the player was and why it collapsed by this time next week!

    Which player "Greenster" ?
And why did it fall "through last minute" ?

The other players don't even like Yann. He's a poor trainer & they don't understand why the manager & fans love him so much !
  • Quick question, if Standard Liege paid £1.5m for Thurum then how come Roland doesn't force their coach to play him?

Maybe it's because it's not true that he forces Powell to play who he wants.

If true my Guess would be Wilson because of Nego coming in.

    Out Replacement
    GK - Alnwick Yohann
    DR/MR - ... Nego
    MC - Stephens Astrit
    MR/ML - ... Koc
    ST - Smith PP
    ST - Kermorgant Reza

I start to have faith in Powell RD relationship if Powell signs a new contract, I'm sure Ben Roberts must have a list of bad habits which he needs go though with Thurum back to basics stuff.
  • We can only loan in domestic players now apparently.

Won't their cleaning jobs clash with training sessions :-)

and Leige have Japan's number one as keeper who I assume they paid a fee for also? Maybe the Leige coach is being forced to play him ;-)
