That may be the way Belgian teams do it, but Premier League teams don't. Spurs and Everton regularly rest strong players in the EL, especially if they have a hard game the following weekend.

Do you think that his main priority was the league, as it was your way back into the Champions League rather than doing well in the Europa League???

As you might know in Belgium the budget isn't the same as in England plus the way our league is handled is weird with those playoffs. Which means that during first part of the season the points count for half before the playoff and it's not a too big lost if you lose them. So to keep players fresh you have to make some choices.
Here the choice that GL made was to bring frustration to the main squad. And his excuse was "we won't win the Europa League so no need to use our best players"...
    Such ambition.
  • It's very difficult trying to compare the Belgian Pro League and The Championship. The budgets are hugely out of wack and the standard of football and general strength of the leagues is also not similar. Apart from perhaps four or five teams in the Pro League all the others would struggle in the championship. Mix into that individual clubs expectations in as much as Standard Liege expect domestic success and we are in trouble comparing apples with pears.

I'm not writing off Luzon based on what SL fans think of him any more than my dislike of Pardew put off either Newcastle or Palace where in Newcastles case he did undeniably reasonably well.

Chill your beans and wait is my advice. He's Charltons coach now and deserves our support on that basis alone.

Why not wait for him to flop before we hound him.

Indeed. Worst was the lack of respect towards the supporter who bought their mini "europa league" subscription without knowing that the U21 will be aligned and that we would get pwned against unknown team...

    Exactly how i feel SHG.

The people already writing him off based on SL reports, where they the same people that thought Yann would be a failure based on Leicester reviews? When he joined, i bet most our fans didn't want him anywhere near taking a penalty. Now he's seen by some as a CAFC legend.

There's nothing wrong with taking on reports and comments from people that have seen Luzon in action, but completely writing the bloke off before he's even stepped foot in Charltons dougout is unfair.
  • From Rednic's wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mircea_Rednic):

"Rednic was sacked at the end of the season after the emphatic 7–1 aggregate win over Gent in the play-off for Europa League qualification.[5] He explicitly attributed his sacking to a conflict between him and club's chairman Roland Duchâtelet who wanted a "marionette" instead of a coach.[6]"

  • nice interview with Bob peeters on tv - yesterday
day for dismissal, there was no problem for his resignation. along with katrien there was talk of the academy and the players coming back from injury. Bob does not understand that katrien not know of his resignation.
when Luzon was away at standard bob saw it coming and feared for his resignation now less went through many injuries.
But not katrien RD gave his resignation and therefore bob does not understand that katrien not one but two faces must have. He finds it very unfortunate that he could not continue with the team and the supporters because they were good for me.
Luzon first match lost 5-0, he did not comment on this, it's not my team anymore. bob or somewhere trainer in one of the satellite clubs RD, no definitely not, but never say never
  • Thanks Defke. It was pretty obvious that RD sacked Bob and not Katrien. She is just his puppet and is trying to fight the fall-out because it has made her look bad. Luzon was not in charge officially yesterday, as he has no work permit yet. Officially, we think, his first game will be next week.

I do not understand what rd in Luzon sees .Ok, he has yet to prove to you, but here he could not. Last year he had a team and start this season, another team with new players. always an excuse, new players still need to get used to, it's the field, it's the refs: it was always something. But if he does as if from us, I have no good eye for you. I really do not think Luzon will be an added value for Charlton. also just read that they are already angry at katrien but I do not know the details. but yes, katrien is the puppet of rd like luzon

We need someone like that. Actually, we need few like that. Defke, is he likely to be a Luzon suggestion rather than Duchatelet's idea?

sorry RD id but very good player and good with head
  • Found out through conversation today that a good work friend in Brussels is a big big Liege fan. Mentioned RD, my affliction towards a club in SE7 and he went off on one....

Luzon "all he wants to do is not let in goals" "another Duchatelet Mafia employee"
"Duchatelet's priority is Liege, unless Charlton get in the premier league, and then the network focus will shift to Charlton"
"We hate Luzon, we hate RD, he doesn't give a fuck about football, its all about the $$ and that's that, don't think otherwise"

He was surprised when I told him how well we think of Riga.

    All a bit depressingly familiar.

    Player wise:-
Buyens "we don't understand why he moved to Charlton, when he's hot, he's hot"
    Tony Watt "rubbish"

Nothing particularly insightful or indeed new, but he is a lover of Liege and familiar with the RD way.

who's that guy maybe i know him and has he FB
  • i saw many things but this - i have no words headcoach out - and new headcoach Riga -
  • So why was the head coach sacked ? How are SL doing, considering I understand they sold a number of decent players, in the summer.
  • Vukomanovic got 28 points out of 39 wich is way better than Luzon and Riga did at SL. Still RD dumps him with a bullshit reason(to close to the players-no experience)
RD was nowhere to be seen at the pressconference wich i think is cowardly.
He will be found out soon and players will avoid his network knowing they will be treated like caddle.
  • and now the rumors - RD will buy Lens of france -

Are we all a little calmer now, so it's ok to talk about our network chums/rivals/fellow lab rats (delete as you see fit)?

Standard won again at the weekend and now have 2 wins and a draw under Riga. Mind you, that's part of a longer streak of fine form that started under Vuko, 6 wins and 2 draws. Thuram is still first choice keeper. No sign of Astrit, etc.

With 3 games to go in the regular season, they are 4 pts clear of 7th, needing to finish in the top 6 to get in the Pro League / Champions League play-offs. They're 5 behind Brugge at the top and could still finish top in the regular season. The closer they get to finishing first, the less the handicap when they start the play-offs.

So things aren't looking too bad for them.
  • Love defke's English. "caddle!"
So much passion. Keep it going son.
  • Astrit gone! Joined Helsingborg on 19th - assume a loan.

Astrit, two footed, skillful on the ball, powerful shot, could head the ball.

Shame he ran out of puff after being on the field for more than 30 mins !

ok we are winning - but when you see how they are playing - somethimes it's crying - playing against club - bottem of de league - and almost lost 3 points - not good to go to the POI
