Chris Powell is a perfect example of why we should never appoint a "club legend" again.

  • Why don't we rename this thread, "how to kick a really decent guy in the balls when he has already been buggered".

No contract, no certainty, no control of personnel, no gratitude and now no players but its all his fault.

There is nothing clouded about my vision and if anything he has been more of a legend as a manager (integrity, respect, loyalty, dignity etc) than he was as a player.

Give him 11 half-decent experienced professional footballers of his choice and if he does badly then by all means sack him.

In the meantime, why not save your clarity for the Belgian social engineering programme that is currently destroying your club.

Oh come on Grumpy, he's doing a job most of us would die for. He's earning a salary most of us could only dream of. He's idolised by thousands of people. I don't see anyone kicking him while he's down, I see some people critisising some of his tactics. Surely that goes with the territory of being a high profile football manager. If I critisise him it's because I want him to keep his job, not because I want to see him sacked. If he doesn't start being a bit more positive I fear that he will lose his job. No owner is going to accept poor results and poor football indefinitely.

You might be surprised by the truth there too.

And if you cannot see people here kicking him while he is down, try the other place. Would you want a job where you can go online and read that sort of shit about your professional performance from people who haven't got a clue about either the job, the tools you have for the job, or how you are actually performing?

  • How often do you get to games AmericanAddick?

I doubt he is American, just another troll re-appearing under a new name desperate for attention.

This is the type of stupid remark that starts even more arguments, and make people feel they cant have an opinion

you dont know who he is or where hes from so unless you have some hard facts i think you should not dig out another poster
unlike your post then? Did you have to get on your high horse quite so quickly and so aggressively to make your "point".

He posts just like a well known troll who constantly attacks this site and everyone on it yet signs up again and again.

Maybe I'm wrong but no one has stopped you having an opinion so calm down.
I think that you calling someone a 'troll' for saying something negative may make people feel like they cant have an opinion

Just because you've been on here a long time doesnt make you more important than anyone else

Ive seen more comments from you calling people trolls from the weekend aswell and noone has said anything to you and felt that something needed to be said, unlike your comments which havent been needed in regards to other posters

When did I ever claim I was more important than anyone else? Never. Seems it is me you have a problem with rather than what I said.

    Oh, well. Move on.

  • I think moving on is probably the best option.
  • Hi AmericanAddick. Quick question: when we pissed League One, why didn't you create a thread titled 'Chris Powell is a perfect example of how appointing a club legend works'? Why is it you've just come out of the woodwork now with your words of wisdom when things aren't going so well?

    Excellent post!

At least one poster on here and I think there may be more attack Powell even after we win a match saying that it means nothing. Damned if he wins, damned if he loses.

I for one think that Powell tends to be too defensive too often but I think that he has done a cracking job for us in very trying circumstances. Some don't acknowledge the unusual situation he finds himself in.

As for attacking Dyer! How on earth can people outside the club have any idea if he carries out his job well or not?
  • Some might argue that having a manager that the crowd supports is a positive. Sometimes when the crowd is down on a manager, it affects the team. Of course this is a disadvantage when the manager isn’t good. For me, Chrissy is a good manager and there is ample proof of the fact – but too negative in his tactics on occasion. His defence against that accusation may be that he has to set up in the best way with the players he has, and that teams like Wigan are a good sides. But it doesn’t fully explain why we are 2-0 up against Yeovil and comfortable, then decide to keep what we have and give them a chance. The same with Palace away last year – we were so dominant in the first half and they had no answer. We should have gone in 3-0 up but went in only 1-up. Holloway took risks and we sat back!

So Chrissy does frustrate me as a fan, and I have a shirt with his name on it! I think he has to learn a little and also be able to strengthen the squad to a degree where he might have more faith in his players’ ability to impose themselves on teams. He has already proved he is a great squad builder and I worry that if we let him go, he will be very successful somewhere else and we would have missed out. He needs a bit of backing and if he fails with that backing, fair enough. But it has been incredibly hard for him over two seasons and he deserves a break.

What's the average wage in the UK now then, I'd hazard a guess of 10-12 pounds per hour. Where I am it's 20 dollars per hour, IF, that's a big if, you can find work. That's under 30K per year. If I was earning 4 or 5 times that amount, as Powell surely is, I'd put up with a few idiots spouting crap on some internet forum. I'm the first person to condemn offensive and disrespectful remarks, but on this particular thread I have only seen some critisism of his tactics. The original poster expressed the view that we shouldn't employ a club legend as manager again. I don't agree, but he spent the time to express his views in a civil way. If people are condemned for daring to say something that you, I, or others disagree with, then there is little point in having a forum.
