Bournemouth did it for Burton, should we as fans do it for Barnsley.....

  • I tell you what I don't understand.

Some feel supporters should make a gesture, and assist Barnsley fans to get to the replayed game. Fine.

Some say it's just part of the game of football, there are always late postponements, and we shouldn't. Fine.

Why does everybody feel that they should impose there own views on other fans on this forum?

Any Barnsley fan who had planned to have come to The Valley yesterday has more money than me. Fact. So please don't give me the "poor relatives from oop north" story. None if them are offering to pay my rates when I'm struggling.

People on this site can be far too opinionated. Stop trying to impose those opinions on others.

Those who want to help, take a bucket to the ground and rattle it. Those who want to put in to the bucket, do so. If people don't want to, don't.

But no-one has a right to tell me what to do, and any other supporter who tries to force me to give money to someone who is better off than me, had better have a damned good dentist.

Stop turning everything on this forum into a pissing contest.

i don't think anyone's imposing their views, just giving them.
Perhaps a nice gesture from us the fans would be to give the Barnsley fans who turn up again a round of applause.
  • I'm sure that when the collection bucket went round the Bournemouth fans some gave and some did not. Some a quid some 10p. Just like it would if it went round fans on here. Everyones in a different situation but in the end the act of giving comes from the heart rather then through an intellectual discussion or a sense of justice. But as the bucket didn't go round at the time its all just conjecture unless the club steps in and makes amends for its farcical decision making.
  • First I would like à good will gesture!!
Drove from tonbridge to Southampton to pick up my son then to the valley total 5 hours driving then back again probally as much as any barnsley fan??
Won't have to do it again as son has told me not to bother anymore and binned his season ticket!
Another lost fan but don't suppose the club cares ?

Did he throw away his dummy too ?

It's the clubs problem not ours.

I find it astonishing that they can pay players and directors however many thousands of pounds per week but still ask for fans to volunteer to come and clean the valley, paint seats, clear snow

And now it's up to us fans to reimburse Barnsley fans?

    Do me a favour

Much as i feel bad for the fans, i don't think it's the fans who should pay. I feel that RD could do a lot of goodwill by laying on coaches from Oakwell to the Valley for the rearranged fixture. It may cost our club a few thousand, but if he's wanting to add some positive PR, he couldn't go wrong on this one.

To me it's the host club that are responsible. I know i've travelled to games and had them called off and been very disappointed, but never expected anything in return. Previously when this has happened due to snow etc the rearranged game is usually mid-week as this one will be and travelling a distance is not as convenient. If i'd have had a coach to take me door to door on a 400 mile round trip i may be more enthusiastic.

I've got time for Barnsley fans. They have had some crap times over the years like us and don't complain about their lot too much. Although small in numbers compared to locals, Hudds, Weds, Utd, Leeds they go about their business without causing any hassle.

As for our own fans. Free Valley Express tickets would be fair too.

Come on Roland, do the right thing.

  • I agree it may a bit drastic from my son Sadie but he's at uni so funds are tight and it's an expensive round trip and was also made for the cancelled Donnie game
So I can see his point?
Maybee if I lived 10 mins away we wouldn't feel as bad.
I just the club has no respect for the fans at the moment?
  • The difference is that on this occasion it was the clubs incompetence that led to the postponement, not bad weather like bournemouth. I feel sorry for barnsley fans but we shudnt go paying for them, we were led on like they were...
  • The postponed game is not the issue it's the
Communication from the club towards the fans that is.
Why did they turn the offer of a Friday pitch inspection down?
How come Danny Wilson was informed an hour and and half
    Before our fans?
So the club has to take the blame?
  • Funny how no one felt the need to compensate Doncaster and I bet they were way more pissed off than Bansley fans were.

They got to watch half a game of football and saw a quite a few goals to boot!

  • Perhaps not funding travel but an apology from CAST on behalf of club or something would be good. Don't think we'd manage to raise enough to help Barnsley out very much to be honest.

I really don't think the Trust should get involved with this.

It's a Club problem and not the Trust's.

At this early stage in the new ownership, surely any apologies/gestures of compensation if deemed suitable must emanate from those who make the decisions at the Club.

IMHO it would undermine RD & his Board's position at a time when feet are barely under the Board room table.

I got to the Valley yesterday but not as bad from Herts, where I live, as Barnsley. Hopefully they found something else to do in London - utimately, they may have enjoyed that more than a defeat.
  • As it was the referees decision to call it off, why don't they contact the Football League, as he is their representative on the day. I feel sorry for them, but nowt to do with Charlton fans.
  • Looking forward to the 'your support is f*cking sh*t' chants during the rearranged fixture ;)
  • I have a 130 mile round trip for every home game, I was well on my way when I heard on the car radio that the game was off, not yet in London but an hour and a few quid in petrol gone, it's the life of being a football supporter, I don't remember the same talk re- the Newcastle game some years ago. My only concern is how long this could go on and how many pounds/points it may cost us ? In saying that, if the club could afford to give the disgruntled Burnley fans a freebie then yes go for it....but we can't.

Your son binned his season ticket because a game was called off due to a poor pitch?

Does he always behave like that when he doesn't get his own way??

With the greatest of respect, you need to tell him to get a grip and stop behaving like a spoilt brat and get on with it.

Come on!! Everyone was disappointed and a little angry after yesterday's debacle, but there are more important things in life he could get stroppy about.

Four of us made the trip from Hertfordshire yesterday so not exactly local or a long distance, we heard when on the M11 that the game had gone. We were midly miffed but turned back. As football fans this sort of thing happens infrequently so kind of accept it.

The info could have handled far far better by the club.

The pitch is a serious concern for the new owners but I believe they will be addressing this as a priority, they simply have to.

No-one in the car burnt their season tickets or swore allegiance to Motherwell as a result.

I certainly do not believe that the club could not care about their fans. I do believe that some serious errors were made yesterday and the club, referee, weather and years of neglect all contributed to the unfortunate and sadly avoidable events yesterday.

So I guess I sit between no reaction and over reaction in the context of this thread

Spoilt brat - you drive from Tonbridge to pick him up - ffs, why don't he just train it to Waterloo, get that you have quality catch up time but....

Perhaps a rendition of "your support is f*cking great" instead!! : D
