Bournemouth did it for Burton, should we as fans do it for Barnsley.....

Following todays very late decision to call off todays game, and AFC Bournemouth's fans funding of Burton Albion's coaches following their late FA Cup cancellation last week (Something highlighted on this site during the past few dats), should we not be doing the same for Barnsley fans who travelled down today!!!!!!

  • Id rather set up a giving page going towards our fans who made the trip from hundreds of miles away!
  • Its a no from me. It happens, part and parcel of being an away fan.
  • YES and the club should fork out their travel costs. Just seen the pitch on you tube on that other website that is a rival to us and disgusted. Barnsley were never pre-warned about chance game maybe off an said they would have travelled down yesterday. Charlton are the ONLY club today to have had their game postponed. I was going to go and get my FA cup ticket today for Tuesday, and as my friend say, it is unlikely to go ahead on Tuesday and if I can't go the game (when it does take place it is us a hassle to get a refund and no doubt an admin fee). The club should as a goodwill gesture re-imburse or pay for travel costs for the re-arranged fixture (whenever that may be).
  • Should fit em in a cab. How much a wait and return to London from Barnsley?
  • It's a nice gesture but I'm sure there are plenty of home fans who have given up time, money etc so how do u reimburse them? Maybe we should get the buckets out to fund a new drain..
  • where do u draw the line, 100 miles -----200 mile round trip ? many or our would have done that.
  • i want my own travel expensess back first.

  • I don't remember getting this type of compensation when getting half way to Chesterfield when it got called off due to a frozen pitch. Just saying.
  • I think its a nice idea but my dad has driven 180miles today for nothing and he isn't gona get anything
  • Chesterfield don't have many fans. Wouldn't hurt, I'd be up for contributing.
  • Funny how we are willing to say how great the Bournemouth fans last week were but can't do it for fans messed up by OUR club, my trip of 140 miles is no problem to me but for away fans who have endured an 8 hour round trip it is not on.......
  • I would gladly contribute to fees of Barnsley fans and Charlton fans where it can be confirmed (presumably by postcode from which they booked their tickets) that are more than 20 miles form the Valley.

I think its important to do the right thing in this case, its unfortunate that the game couldn't go ahead, it is terrible the way that the club treated the fans of both sides.
  • This is completely different to chesterfield or any other game I can remember being called off. The situation could have been avoided by better communication and operations within the club. They screwed up, they should cop the financial hit.

Think they raised close to £3000. Heard they had enough for 8 coaches in the end plus a donation to charity.

A little different as there will be plenty of London based Tykes who travelled less than many of ours but I guess some sort of gesture, even just an apology for the shoddy treatment might be nice.

Ask me again in the morning and I'll stick couple of quid in.
  • It's the clubs problem not ours.

I find it astonishing that they can pay players and directors however many thousands of pounds per week but still ask for fans to volunteer to come and clean the valley, paint seats, clear snow

And now it's up to us fans to reimburse Barnsley fans?

    Do me a favour
  • The club get fined and all fines to go to Barnsley's travel and hotel costs plus their fans coaches and organised train spotters
  • Can I put in a claim to be refunded please ?

Rochdale A 2 seasons ago I paid 3 times for train travel for 2 people. £200 approx.

    Thanks :-)

  • Think they'd be happier with a points deduction!
  • Barnsley are complaining to the FL & I think will be asking for compensation.

    The end.
  • Just shy of a 400 mile round trip for me from stockport so put me top of the donations list. Best part of £100 out of pocket and 9 hours wasted in the car :(
  • Sorry but no... the link between Bournemouth and Burton goes back to when Bournemouth won the League Two title @ Burton who were extremely hospitable to both players and fans (ensuring the fans got the chance to celebrate... Carlisle take note)

Where as the Barnsley incident is no different to when we travelled to Rochdale (twice) and Chesterfield and had the games cancelled... We didnt demand compensation from either of those two teams did we?

I have to agree with this, being, as I was a victim of the above.

And as someone pointed out earlier, Newcastle in the snow was another example of time & money being wasted in an effort to support the lads.

Shit happens. The game above plus off the top of my head.

Burnley 94/95: called off one hour before kick off due to a waterlogged pitch. Good lock in at a Blackburn pub after though and a decent breakfast in the local hostal next morning on the Darwin road.

Oldham 96/97: Fogged off just before kick off, club directors given local knowledge at Manchester Victoria, but deciding to do the opposite. Dam you ordinary people!

Newcastle 05/06. Return flight to the north east. Game called off due to surrounding roads. Snowball fight before the game and a game of total wipeout at 11pm being pissed and without suitable footwear.

Chesterfield February 2012. Game called off at 9.30 whilst on train to said area. Pissed off young assistant kit man, swearing for Britain on the seat opposite. Get off at Leicester, end up in a student bar near the Walkers stadium with Sky tv, with a bunch of tax Dodgers in their 3d glasses supping on their half of bitter and a bag of Bombay mix. Watch Leicester v Cardiff in a boring 1 all draw and then head back to the student bar to discuss about Nick Clegg.
  • These things happen, i remember Walsall away a few years ago it got called off near the kick off time while i was on a train. It's frustrating and i sympathize with the Barnsley fans but i not paying out of my back pocket for them.
  • No way, Bournemouth done it because they were treated well by Burton fans on their promotion game from league 2 a few years ago.

I don't remember being treated well when I went to Barnsley, in fact I remember some of the locals with 58 fingers giving us dirty looks walking through the town centre. Fuck em
  • Think we should wait for more facts to come out before calling this. Signs are it may not be a matter of bad luck but shear incompetence and if so it would be good PR for us or more specially the supporters trust to cover costs of coaches for the rearranged fixture.
