Maybe this is a good time to close the thread. Or have a different title to indicate that there is nothing going on so that we are spared having to go into the thread ?

Why? Who says nothing is going on? No need to close the thread at all.
Your dead right. If you take notice of the idiots ( idiot ) on that board you deserve to be disappointed.
There is no evidence that anyone has pulled out ( not that they were ever in ) fact quite the contrary , there seems to be another party interested.
Why keep ignoring AFKA's request?
What request ?
'm fairly certain he asked people to stop bitching about ITV, it does get a little boring.
I've had no such request and i will bitch about who i like thanks. Am i the only one saying how bad Into the Valley is ?
You're obviously unaware Beds. AFKA asked everyone to stop referring to them, in order to keep the best possible relations, as we are all Charlton fans.
Anyway, it's pretty obvious, at the moment, that no one commenting on here knows much.
When someone says it's on, people say yes yes we know.
Then someone says, I think it's off & many of the same people are saying yes yes I know it's off.
Ad infinitum :-)
Because ultimately, it all trickles down from the same sources.
It's like a family tree.
Only a couple of people are privy to the actual truth. They mention it to a couple of people, who they each mention to a couple of people. Then one of them will post it on a forum, while another emails or texts his 12 closest friends. And they the tell people.
And eventually you end up with people believing something must be true because they have heard it from three unconnected people and read it on a forum, despite the fact it all probably originated from the same person in the first place.
Of course what might have been true yesterday can be false today, and what might have been off today might be on tomorrow, which leads to a ridiculous game of cat and mouse with people desperately trying to determine what is the latest of the info and how strong a source that latest info is.
The bottom line is that most people who have some degree of inside line, generally all hear the same rumour at roughly the same time, maybe with a slight twist the more it comes away from the original root.
Henry Irving has plagued this forum for years with a load of old pony, but his 'it's only true when it's on the OS' is the only thing that really matters.
Until then, either enjoy the show and take it all with a pinch of salt. Something that is a done deal is never a done deal until the i's are dotted, the t's crossed, and a scarf is being held upside down on the OS.

This....The takeover is dead. Long live the takeover
I was going to "like" afka's post until he libeled me and even worse got the quote wrong. It's "I'll believe it when it's on the OS".
So I would be flagging that but you can't do that to Admin.
Meanwhile I can say the takeover is 0% done.
That isnt inside info or a change since yesterday, last week or last month.
It is just that deals be they for players or clubs are always in one of two stages ie 0% done or 100% done.
Terms such as close, advanced, imminent, Monday or Tuesday, nearly done or 99% done are just journo terms to whip up excitment.
When the deal is signed, the money is in the bank and there is a photo of the new owner standing in the directors box holding a Charlton scarf above his head with "The Valley" spelt out behind him in the East stand seats on the OS then it is done.
Meanwhile I enjoy the gossip and debate so carrying on adding whatever you hear either here on via the inbox, just take it all with a pinch of salt.

What a great sucker !
A pretty fair assessment really.

And how about arranging a Christmas Day truce with ITTV with a football match between the trenches?
