  • Near a week since SLP no one official has come out about a takeover.
  • Near a week since SLP no one official has come out about a takeover.

Just over a week actually but even 8 days isn't a very long time at all. Just because people want an instant answer/outcome doesn't mean there should or will be.

I'm not sure why people expected it to happen last week or this. If it happens at all it could still be weeks or months away.

And don't hold your breath waiting for Slater or Jimenez to say anything. If it is true then there is most likely a non-disclosure agreement in place while due diligence is carried out.

And even if there wasn't an NDA are they likely to say anything directly to the fans. Leak something to the SLP maybe but that will be your lot.
  • Near a week since SLP no one official has come out about a takeover.

To be fair they do not have too, they are business people and things need to be done in a business like manner, not done to keep fans happy and up to speed.

If this deal has legs it involves a lot of people and plans i.e. new stadium, housing etc and of course not forgetting millions of pounds.

There are deals like this being done every day some of which involves companies and employed people, it is normally the employee's that find out last what is going on so in this case for employee's read fans.
  • 110,000 views on here in a week, mentions spreading to the national press, and a warning shot to other interested parties.

I suspect dropping the SLP a bit of a scoop worked like a treat.....

Agreed. Indeed I remain puzzled about the source, purpose and goal of the leak to the SLP. Nor do I think its in the interest of CAFC for those of us who do get privileged information to place 'clues' to a bidder's identity on internet forums.
  • My opinion is that if there is no deal on the table and the story leaked to the SLP was to "draw a bidder in" we are approaching the time where the money being put into the club is running out or close to being stopped. Desperate times call for desperate measures and if the story was a "leak" things must be pretty desperate.

I fear administration and a 10 point deduction is looming on the horizon, which of course will mean league 1 football next season.

    Yes please
    There you go. Got it?
Nope, you'll have to carry on until we get it I'm afriad
  • Something is happening - of that I am sure.
When will a deal be finalised? No idea so lets stay calm and enjoy the climb up the table...
Will this round of due diligence deliver? 50:50 without knowing any detail.
Will we go into administration if no deal? Absolutely not! This is not Goldberg or Jordan one man band blagging it. There are too many interested parties who all stand to lose millions if the whole thing falls over.
It occurs to me that one of the reasons for reducing the playing budget this season has been to allow more time for this process to conclude. As well as leaving room for new owners to make their mark without breaching FFP limits.

I'm not saying that's not possible but OMG what a leap of logic

I don't myself think it is that bad, but would not claim to be sure of that. Your version of why the story is leaked, is indeed the one doing the rounds, but would you use some local newspaper to do that? It just isn't my experience of how things are done. If an ad agency is selling and has both WPP and Omnicom interested, the last thing it does is leak to the local magazine that WPP has offered x million. The most likely consequence would be that WPP would turn round and tell them to shove their deal.

Of course a football club is a bit different, but really how different, in this context?

    Puzzled...

The timeline doesn't quite add up but, to my knowledge, due diligence continues so we wait and hope .....

    Thanks for that important info.

  • didnt SLP say there would be no more info til the end of the week?

  • I know that some ppl are contesting the validity of the SLP article - but the original piece did say that the DD was complete didn't it?
  • you can have more than one bidder and therefore more than one DD can you not? who knows though. Very interesting supporting CAFC at the moment, makes a change don't it :)

"CHARLTON are in advanced talks with a multi-million pound British property company over the sale of the Championship club, the South London Press understands.
Sources close to the Addicks have revealed that an investment company is on the verge of completing the deal to take total control of the Championship club."

No mention of DD being underway or done just vague terms.

You can have two companies doing DD but most firms if paying for DD would ask for exclusivity for a fixed period so others can't muscle in.
  • The story wouldn't have been planted without substance beneath it - something is happening I agree. As for timescales - I doubt our anxieties feature at all - things will be done in their time. We just have to wait and post here when there are - and are not any developments.
  • I know that some ppl are contesting the validity of the SLP article - but the original piece did say that the DD was complete didn't it?

If the club told the SLP that then that is what is going to be reported, it does not mean to say it has happened though does it.

Due Dilligence is not the legal contracting stage, it is just checking the books to see if the numbers stack up. If the potential buyer are happy, then they need to get together with the seller to agree terms for any deal and do a bit of negotiating, this can take weeks.
  • Yeah - I know....was just wondering why ppl were commenting re ongoing DD.

This bit of the SLP article in 20/11 says it has been completed:

"The South London Press understands that representatives of the buyer visited The Valley and Charlton’s Sparrows Lane training ground this week and have completed their due diligence."
  • I would imagine they are trying to hammer out a deal, if they have not walked away following DD, These things are not always quick. I have recently been involved in a contract that took 6 months to agree final terms.

I stand corrected. I don't believe what has been leaked to the SLP though and as Steve Dowman says that doesn't mean the deal is done or even close.

    Thanks for that important info.

Unlike the person you've pithily dismissed,no doubt you consider yourself one of '... us that get privileged information...' to quote one of your posts.

Nobody on here knows anything no matter how privileged their information.
  • @PorterSLP: No #CAFC takeover news in South London Press tomorrow. Things chugging along. But piece on Kermorgant deal and fab @RichCawleySLP match rpt

Different DD as per AB's post about more than 1 interested party (if the SLP article is accurate).
  • in a competitive 2 bid environment and exclusivity for DD is it then possible that the second bidder is then allowed to do DD?
  • Isn't due dilligence the process of checking the books? - which you would imagine, any potential buyer would need to do for themselves.
