  • DAY 1 OF WELSH OPEN

only big shock with a top 16 player today was Rob Milkins(15) who lost to Scott Donaldson(75) 4-2
The only other shock was Marcus Campbell(30) was whitewashed 4-0 by Andrew Pagett(100)

Other then that it was a pretty standard day

only 4 centuries and the highest break was 121

Another 16 Matches tomorrow then we are halfway through the first round
  • DAY 2 OF WELSH OPEN

A day of whitewashes today including all 4 of the evening session
8 in total which included Higgins(11) Selby(4), Gould(32) and Doherty(34) all going through.

Again no massive shocks Allen(12) almost went out against Sydney Wilson(123) but just gone over the finishing line 4-3.

Unfortunatly Steve Davis(59) was one of those Whitewashed tonight losing against Noppon Saengkham(98), I dont hold much
hope of Davis retaining a spot in the top 64 next season.

Second day in a row where there was only 4 centuries 121 still the high break.

Another 16 Matches tomorrow including The Whirlwind Jimmy White(60)
  • Surely the Nugget must retire now if he does fail to break into top 64.

  • Surely the Nugget must retire now if he does fail to break into top 64.

He did say a couple of months ago he would happily go through Q School if he did drop out
  • I don't get that at all. Hendry jacked it in as soon as he knew he couldn't compete at the top level any more. Even on a personal note, I stopped playing a couple of years ago because I was nowhere near the standard I was at ten to twenty years earlier and couldn't enjoy it any more.

According to a interview he did just after the jungle he still enjoys it even when losing

    My Top Five

    5) Graham Miles - He did a personal appearance and Master Class at a holiday camp I was at in the 70's and did things with a snooker ball that I had never seen live before or since.

I saw David Taylor (aka the silver fox) at Butlins in the late 70's - seeing him close up you wondered how anyone could beat him. In truth he was probably a very good second division player compared to the Ray Reardons and John Spencers who were the top men at the time. They always reckoned Willie Thorne was the best but never quite showed it in tournaments.
If he hadnt missed that blue, might have got the confidence to win some majors.
Talks a lot of twaddle though.
I saw Willie Thorne in his club in Leicester one weekend, Davis was playing Hendry in the Worlds semi final and everyone was watching it on the big screen. Thorne turned it over to watch the racing. Then he sat at the kalooki table with a huge wad of cash. I didn't see him get his cue out once. He was a talented player but no bottle and not a good match player.
Yep heard Thorne has /had a big gambling problem , knocked a mates mate on a bet they had playing golf
  • Just witnessed a snooker genius at work.
  • DAY 11 OF WELSH OPEN

    The final day was incredible

    O'Sullivan went 7-1 up,
Ding came out this evening fighting won the opening 2 frames,

Then O'Sullivan came back went 8-3 up and then came the magic
147 in the final frame and finished with a left handed black.

That was O'Sullivan's 12th 147 his first since 2011 which takes him above Hendry now and is top on his own right.
  • The last red, played left handed, into the green pocket with deep screw leading to perfect position on the black was incredible!
  • I went to days one and 2 last week :)
Was really good, Ronnie Tuesday night was close to 147 when he missed 14th black. The 147 had so much class, that last red ooooerrrr

he is now 11/10 to win World, pretty short odds but justified

On local news i played shocking in my league yesterday, such a frustrating game :( think i need to start practicing we only play 1-2 frames each week unless we have cups so need to dedicate a few hours to either play a mate or just on my todd but its hard

  • Statement number 2 reagrding Stephen Lee

    WPBSA STATEMENT
    13th March 2014

Edwin Glasgow QC and Peter Stockwell, who formed the Appeals Committee to hear the first part of Stephen Lee's appeal against his conviction for seven counts of match fixing, have on request of those representing Mr Lee recused themselves from hearing the remainder of the appeal.

The Appeals Committee made the offer to both parties to recuse themselves. The reason for this was that in their decision to dismiss the first part of the appeal they had formed an unfavourable impression of Mr Lee's truthfulness as a witness of fact on a critical issue.

In addition to dismissing the first part of the appeal, the Appeals Committee concluded that the appropriate order in this case is that Mr Lee should pay a contribution of £30,000 towards the legal costs incurred by the WPBSA in successfully resisting the appeal insofar as it was based on what was found to be misconceived allegations of apparent bias.

Sport Resolutions UK have nominated a new chair for the Appeals Committee in order that the remainder of the appeal can be heard. The nominee has been accepted by the WPBSA and we are keen for the remainder of the appeal to be dealt with as soon as possible.
  • The Haikou world open was won by Shaun Murphy who beat Mark Selby 10-6
That is now Selby's 6th final of the season only winning 1.

Anthony McGill got the high break with a 144 and earns £2,000

Just over a week off now until the Players Championship final in Preston
