The transformation from a run down office to what is there now is amazing
This pic from Ken illustrates just how much work has to be done and how we've had to source stuff from different places
The cabinet is one of four we got from Blackheath Rugby Club via a very helpful lifer. Cost us £300 IIRC
The pic on the floor is mine
The items in the cabinet all related to Alfred John "Scotty" Kingsley, arguably the most important player in the club's history; you'll have to come to the museum to find out why.
When we found them they had been taped into a picture frame. The frame was broken and the items couldn't be read. The 1919 programme was taped together with very old sticky tape.
Taking them out of the frame ourselves would have damaged them so we spent £200 get them repaired and mounted by a professional conservator. The programme (from Christmas day 1919) could well now be worth more than that but that isn't the point.
It's the oldest programme we have at the museum. It is Kent League. And now we can display it properly
As it was
Just an example of how much goes on behind the scenes and why we keep asking for money from auctions etc.
We don't get any funding from the Football Club so we need to raise that money elsewhere. A lot of people have been very generous with their time and money and that is really appreciated
Just caught up with this thread. Great work by quite a few people connected through here, so great to see. Hope your opening night went well and look forward to,seeing
incredible inside Keith Peacock was there as well as Katrien
my German friend @JanSE8 was amazed by it and enjoyed meeting Keith peacock as well as @razil@Henry Irving @cafc999 and @GlassHalfFull and he said he is looking forward to starting German Addicks when he returns home
Thanks everyone who came tonight and all who have supported us so far, this really is a fan led initiative and we already have a museum to be proud of, it's work in progress but look forward to improving it further and opening on match days soon.
Great to see so many people tonight who care passionately about our club, it's always been a rollercoaster ride for 109 years, to be able to tell that story through the Museum is a real privilege.
Went to the opening of the museum tonight. It looks great. There are some excellent items and the video loop had some footage about the pre-war and early post-war years I had not seen before.

Kingsley's legs have gone and Farrer is too small.
I predict we'll win this game 8 - 0 and when we play Ordanance on Boxing Day the ref won't turn up so we'll play a friendly and win that 1 - 0
Farrer won't make it but Kingsley is good enough IMHO to play Southern league, maybe even football league.
Not that I want us to get promoted to the Football League as too commercial and the players get paid too much. £4 per week is too much for any player.
Reckons he's odds on for the Managers job. Cocky young blighter. Totally ignored me when I mention the UEFA Pro Licence.
Wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Likes a bung that one.
If was ever our manager I stop going
Looking good Sir Henry.
Really pleased to see so many people there.
