After last night i think he has become the priority contract. You can't deny his potential. I hope he gives us a season or two. We lost Jonjo and Jenkinson too early and i pray we hold our own on jordan however i have my doubts.
Who said Chelsea and Arsenal want him? The Mirror or somewhere more credible? If he is regularly in our team then we will have a chance of convincing him to stay.
Gave him his MOTM bottle of champagne last night - think he is just of legal drinking age...said to him that I remembered seeing Richard Rufus get the same award early in his career - but not sure he knew who I was talking about!
I'm really looking forward to see if can perform like he did last night on a consistent basis. If he does, then he is heading for the top and quickly. Reminded me of a young Rio Ferdinand last night. (He also started in midfield).
All of the big clubs would have been aware of him in England U18s and will now take closer interest after last nights performance. If he's not under contract now, then the club is risking losing a big fee. If the big clubs get into an auction it's gonna be £10 mill plus. Don't get too attached to him.
He got some sort of new deal in March, listed here - http://www.thefa.com/~/media/65E136CF501C4B3F87F1CA67F890EC6A.ashx. There was never any announcement, might have only been a 1 year extension. Either way hope we can get him on a 3 or 4 year deal soon, as we did with Solly, Harriott and Pigott.
He's been a highly rated youngster for a number of years and has been around the England setup too. Arsenal and Chelsea etc etc will have been well aware of his talent and potential for a long time, probably 10 years or more and long before most of us were. If they want him, they will have approached him before now so either:
a) he's still with us because he chose to see his youth development through with us because he saw a clearer route to the first team, in which case he's highly unlikely to swap our first team for Chelsea's development squad six weeks after he made his breakthrough. b) the big boys don't fancy him, in which case they're pretty unlikely to change their mind after less than 10 first team appearances for a Championship side.

I got a text from Charlton saying Chelsea & Arsenal were chasing him ! Seriously.
Respect your opinion m8 but can't agree with it as he is a young man still developing with two good feet and the priceless commodity of using the time that is available to him. This on its own indicates a quality that could (not will) open up a Prem future in time to come.
I met an agent at the match. A smart and well spoken young guy, quite unlike my image of the average agent. I asked him how a club like Charlton can keep hold of good young players. In answer he pointed to Cousins' name on the team sheet. It is no guarantee, but a young player will value getting regular first team experience.

Some will, some won't. There's little we can do to stop the susceptible one's from having their heads turned, but likewise the big boys struggle to turn the heads of those focused on first team football earlier in their careers.
You win some you lose some. We just have to do what we can to maximize the wins and minimize the losses.
One of the things we can do is give plenty of youngsters their chance and then be supportive of them as fans when they get it. It's a bright spot of the current situation that we have as many young pros' names on the team sheet as we have for a long time and that is a great advert when trying to convince the next generation of talent that they should join our academy.

I still feel disappointed that neither manager nor fans did that well in JonJo's case. Having just got in from seeing his 15 minute cameo for Swansea tonight, I think the Swansea fans are more supportive, even though the odd ambitious pass just doesn't come off. I think we'd have made it up that season if Parkinson had worked harder to get the best from him, and then, who knows. But I know this is not a majority view.
Parky made a mess of the of the Jonjo situation and I think he suffered from being a bit overhyped. He clearly had a bags of potential, which he's starting realize consistently, but he was hyped to an extent I think too much was expected of him at 17 years old. Rightly or wrongly I think that makes people harder for a British audience to warm to. He wasn't given a hard time as such by the fans but I know what you mean that he didn't get the same level of warmth that some youngsters have been afforded.
Frustrates the hell out of me every time I come on here and see a thread digging out someone like Joe Piggott. Not saying we have to say nice things if he didn't play well, but maybe don't say anything? Good chance the kid reads this site and I know if I read something online at 19 years of age saying I was shit at what I did I'd have taken it pretty hard. It comes with the territory but let him read that crap on his next club's message board

To be fair it was pretty tough for Parky to pick a 'footballing' midfielder like Shelvey in League One, the style of play is a million miles away from where he is best suited.
Some games in League One the ball spends most of the time 20 feet in the air so a player like Shelvey would be wasted.
He was very good that season in the early games - remembering he was only a kid at the time - but he got tired and our football got more and more direct as the season went on.

Sorry, but you pick your best players regardless. Football is football. We had a whole team of good footballers in 2012 and won the league. Parkinson was clueless at times with Shelvey.
Great game the other night but as it is too early to say Pigott is pony on his last two performances it's also too early to say cousins is the best thing ever but that's what we're here for so fuck it , Cousins was immense and long may that continue for us .

*Glances round sheepishly*... Did it work??

Can't wait to see him in the flesh from all these reviews.

Would love to be as cool about this as Chris...actually, would just love to be as cool full stop!! ;-)
you must be on the wind up
