based on tonights game I don't think parker bowyer or jonjo played better at that age only Solly would push it close
Really? Bowyer was far ahead of cousins when he broke into the team at 17. Cousins is 19. Good player but Bowyer was sold at the age cousins is now for a record fee for a teenager.
Lets not go OTT with the praise after a couple of good game. he's a real star in making and has the height, strength and ability to go a long way but it is a long old season.
disagree henners Bowyer went for a record fee, for ten if not 20+ good performances, Bowyer was very very very consistant in his performance, where as I believe that on that one single performance I do not believe I have seen a youth player come into the team and play that well, the only performance I can think of was Solly against Bournemouth
the I don't recall a club resort to kicking and constantly fouling a youngster for us so many times, they just could not deal with him, he was stronger and more energetic than any I can recall,
imo he has always had the ability to be the real deal, if he puts in another 10 performances like that and if we give him a contract (cant believe he doesn't have one ) he will make us bundles in transfer fee
THE best young player to come out of the CAFC 'finishing school' for years .. he reminds me of Stephen Gerrard and even scouse haters must admit that Stevie aint too shabby a player
Prothero was waffling on in the programme last night about what his role is. It appears that one of them is signing players up. If the chap has got half a brain cell then he should get JC and his agent in this morning and start discussing a long-term contract. OK we all know that this means nothing but at least we would get a decent fee when he goes. Otherwise there is a real danger this lad will just walk away to Arsenal or someone similar at the end of the season and as WSS says, we end up with a pittance of a development fee.
Outstanding performance in the second half, i thought first half he looked a little shakey. Gave away the needless free-kick that Reid scored. When Powell got Stephens and Gower to push forward more in the second half, Cousins came alive and really controlled the game. When I saw the teamsheet tonight, I thought Chalobah, Lansbury and Reid would run the middle of the park but it was Cousins controlling the tempo for most of the game. Stepped up well to the first team and a confident performance like last night has set him up to be our new first choice centre mid.
Saw the lad play centre midfield in a under 21 game back in April and for whatever reason did not look interested. Since the start of this season, maybe the penny has dropped. Last night he looked very confident on the ball, plays with his head up, and good to see a strong big midfielder in there who wants the ball and will put his foot in.
I saw him in the Kent Senior Cup final, thought he perhaps hadn't pushed on as hoped/expected and might not get his chance. Looked comfortable but didn't stand out, actually looked a much player when playing for the first team this season, especially last night.
One of the most complete performances from a teenager I've seen at Charlton. Only Jonjo comes close in terms of composure and maturity on the ball.
Not to forget the fact he drilled one against the post with a smart volley, deserved a goal.
Whatever it takes, give him the same 4 year deal as Harriott got or whatever he wants. If our club is going to be scrambling around for pennies for the foreseeable, our best source of funds is to bring through and sell young hungry capable players like Jordan and Callum (not to mention Solly). We need to preserve the value of our saleable assets.
For me Cousins is the best Midfielder in the team at present and should be one of the last players to be dropped - He's an excellent box to box midfielder who can defend and attack.
Was unlucky with their Free-Kick in my opinion last night (though was equally unlucky not to score)
I felt this against Doncaster in his debut (which must have been the hardest possible) that when he gets the ball he doesnt panic and keeps it simple (would like to know his pass accuracy)
I'll get shot down for this by the usual suspects but I'll say now that he's a better player than Jonjo was at 19 and is taking control of games, against one of the best teams in The Championship.

**Disclaimer: I do and always have rated Jonjo**
I have to agree on both your comment and disclaimer - Trouble is we have to remember Jonjo is like Stephens and as ValleyGary said on the Stephens thread:
"To be fair to Stephens his game is harder to make consistent than other players. Take Pritchard for example, its easier for him to put a shift in, get in players faces, make tackles and still be classed as having a good game. Whereas Stephens is relying on his team mates to show for the pass, be available and want the ball. If others around him arent doing that then he becomes almost redundant and people say "well Stephens didnt do much today so he must have been crap". Its why he would look a better player the higher he went in some ways."
Cousins is gonna get stuck in more so its gonna help us notice him a little bit and I always felt that Jonjo went missing a little at times playing for us
last nights performance was the single best performance I have seen from a youngster we have bought through , he was involved in the game constantly and his input into was superb, jonjo may have a better passing range imo but nowhere did not have the physical attributes or the awareness of what space he had as cousins, he will get better and better the same as jonjo the higher he plays, they are different players though I think the ability jonjo has to dictate play to his strengths is totally different to what Jordan will deliver
What impresses me the most about Cousins is that he has the bottle to always want the ball even in tight positions with players close to him. Plays with his head up and keeps it simple. The lad should have been involved for the Millwall game. Seriously hope his contract situation is resolved ASAP as this boy has the potential to go along way in the game.
need to tie him down to a contract NOW but if Prem clubs are already sniffing around a few more performances like last night will make a few more sit up and take notice too. Getting him to sign might prove difficult. Either way he won't be with us long I'm afraid.
If any board members are reading this, sign this lad up quick on a new 5 year deal , it will help raise the value of resale of this club , which will means you'll get your money back quicker.

He has already captained an England team.
never a free kick though IMO.
