Can't believe that East Thurrock was on and Concorde called off. Called off at 2pm after the Bognor supporters were already there. First time I have been to a game where two sets of away fans outnumbered the home.
I nearly made a last minute decision to drive there today mate. Wish I had now
Coombes is different class mate. Went off in the second half, and his touch let him down a bit as the game went on, but head and shoulders above any forward you will see in this league.
Alls well while the owner is happy to keep paying the debts. Should he get bored it could be nasty, but those sort of ifs and buts aren't really relevant as of now. If you push me, I'd say this looks like Rushden, and the Doctor may get bored with the club in league 2 with huge debts and gates of under 3000. But that is pure speculation. He may just keep pushing them along.
16/17 accounts remember that, still in National League South. Now that the main stand is open and being used accounts for this season will be far healthier, even with the works that had to be done on the Swanscombe End.
Dave Archer is pretty damn good at bringing in sponsorship as well, the joke with us all at the ground is that if doesn’t move Dave will sell it.
Hotel work starts in the Autumn, just a shame that the builders going into admin put things back.
Yes, it’s a big amount to lose but the work Peter Varney started is continuing.

Fair enough - I did say 'could' not 'will'
New stand, hotel etc etc is of course positive stuff - Stonebridge Road badly needed improving in any event
However Shabby is right - if the owner loses interest, or other parts of his empire get into difficulty, or Paramount doesn't happen, then his money could vanish and Fleet could have a real financial headache on their hands
We have seen it over and over again in football in this country
Really the only option Fleet have is for him to keep pumping in money so they get into League 2 and maybe higher - that would perhaps result in the sort of crowds the club will need to anywhere near self sustaining
Kent is rich in good non league clubs, so competition for support is high
Ambition is a worthy attribute - but reliance on one man and his money is a route littered with casualties in football
Was just listening to the Sutton United Manager on BBC London Radio... Dont know how Sutton are viewed by the Non-League Community yet they seem unfortunate by current events:
- Currently Part-Time and will remain Part-Time if they go into League Two - Need to raise £600,000 if they get promoted, not just to rip up and replace the 3G pitch but also comply with League Two requirements (CCTV etc.)
You could hear in the background kids using the pitch as is used by the community, yes its against Football League Rules yet surely its something that needs to be revisited, especially when these pitches are being used for more than just League games - So much money is going into the top level of the game, its a shame that clubs like Sutton (and other Non-League sides) are having to face the pinch.
Got to the point where at the end of the conversation, Phil Parry (?) said to the Sutton Manager about having a glass of champagne if they get promotion at the end of the season... The response given was: We'll have a glass of champagne even if we're not promoted - the pinnacle for any club should be able winning trophies / promotion, yet we've got the rules basically making Sutton take preference of staying as a Non-League club instead of being able to face potential sides like Coventry.
Yes they knew this when they added the 3G pitch, yet its a double edged sword.
- Its something that is allowed in the Non-League (so Sutton and others like Maidstone have taken advantage)... Not to mention the technology is completely different to the 80s - It ensures their fixtures at home get completed without worrying about waterlogged pitches etc. - Its allowing kids to play Football, firstly gives them something to do and secondly enhances the chance of creating future stars for England!!
And they signed Welling top scorer for 2017-18 in the bar before the televised FA Cup game. Also took Beautyman (got the opener today). Had a nice tickle last year with their cup run. There are a lot of teams that have real problems that are far worse than you have highlighted.

Oh of course there are, Dulwich being a perfect example at the moment... Even the Sutton Manager was saying how Dagenham and Chester should have sorted their budgets better in the Conference.
Its just frustrating how difficult it can be to go from Non-League to Football League when it should be a straight forward transition from one level to another

He scored.
U have gotta laugh if they get through after a 3-2 win today going into the second leg.
Bromley FC gets to a Wembley before CAFC.....

But I'd be concerned.

Although they've still got games in hand, there's a lot more hope for DH to gain automatic promotion now.
3-1 up now
Bad news - Roger Johnson going with them.
