Do you feel the manager uses the bench well? Always reactive and rarely proactive. You have to use the squad with Tuesday games. Over to you..,
The radio commentary suggested the two subs were ready to come on BEFORE the second goal went in, described as a 35 yard shot that "you just can't legislate for".
It's ridiculous how reliant we are on one or two players. Jackson's out - look terrible, can't win. Get him back and do better. Then Yan's out - sound terrible, can't win. This is the problem with having such a shallow squad that's reliant on a couple of guys in their thirties, they're bound to pick up injuries over a 46 games season and when we need to replace them there's just nothing there.
I pray Yan's fit for Millwall but that's a short term fix; the squad has been allowed to degridate to the state it is now and that will cause us problems all season unless addressed either by loans now or signings in January.
Your spot on SE9, but there's no point moaniing about it because it won't change, but if it helps you get it off your chest I guess it's best to get your frustration out here rather than at a match.
If people say about the subs, that's ridiculous. Stewart, a sub, scored the goal and both he and Harriott were about to come on when we conceded the second which was a wonder strike. Nothing really you can do when that happens.
The subs came on, made a bit of a difference and we pushed on, scored and were unlucky in the end
Mate, some people have an agenda and will use every angle they can to highlight issues with his management every time we lose a game. Been the same since the start of last season. Only a small percentage, but sadly noticeable. Not sure what perfection people expect. Reminds me of the Sunday league players who couldn't trap a ball or pass it five yards straight, yet expect their ref to be of World Cup standard
It's a shame and quite sad really. Powell gets a lot of things correct, most in fact, which is why he is still in the job and doing a very good one at that. Yet people are eager to point out any minor fault of his even when it's something he may not have any control over, and let's not forget once the players cross the white line, ultimately what he can do is very limited.
He had prepared both Stewart and Harriott to come on before they scored the second, what can Powell do to stop a wonder goal? But you're right, it's unfortunately a noticeable small percentage that either have unrealistic expectations which are impossible to fulfil, or do not quite understand the game as well. Now, don't get me wrong that's no dig at any supporter, it's just that it gets very annoying when people put blame onto Powell of something that can't be controlled.

To be fair Sordell was brought in to strengthen the squad along with Church, replacing two players who may have been more talented but who were injury prone. Whilst depth maybe an issue in the future, I think currently the issue is either one of quality or of form.
Thought we looked very sluggish first half. 1-0 to Huddersfield at half time flattered us. They were sharper and more dangerous than us right from the first whistle and deserved the 3 points tonight. Only after half time did we play with a bit more urgency. The front 2 were completely ineffective and they just invited us to pump the ball in the box knowing full well that we wouldn't win a single header.
Ok. Rant over. I needed to get that out.
On the plus side, I thought Wiggins had a good game while Pritchard and Jackson showed a lot of heart in middle. Harriott looked especially hungry when he came on, while Stewart has clearly got a lot of skill. But the main concern is how impotent we looked without Kermorgant. Maybe it's time to go 4-3-3 with Harriot and Sordell/Stewart playing either side on the wing?
Bloodyhell, listening to reports from those there, the commentators must have been pretty kind/biased, as my Hudds mate (who lives down here) pointed out...
poor game between 2 poor sides but at least Hudds have a striker in their team, we don't, if there had been a dog with full bladder there at least Sordell would have been some use to the dog as he wasn't any use to us. The subs did make a difference as there was some attacking purpose. Generally our defence was OK except for the poor marking for their 1st goal, there second really was a bolt from the blue. Hamer looks like he is either caryying an injury or a lack of confidence. The midfield had the old habit of passing to the opposition until the subs came on. By subs I mean Harry and Stewart, Pigott didn't really have a chance.
The loss of Yann looks like it affects the whole team and I can't see us winning until he returns.
Hamer does not fill me with confidence at the moment. Defence mostly OK. Midfield struggled a bit because in my opinion only Church of the front two was putting a shift in, sordell was lazy both in his running very rarely 'showed' himself for a ball and lazy with his passing when he had the ball. I was very dissapointed with his attitude doesn't seem to have any heart at all. The second goal was a killer but a wonerfully struck shot from fully 35 yards and was pretty much unstoppable.
Stewart and Harriot made a difference when they came on Stewarts goal was a cracker, after that we pretty much forced Huddersfield back but couldn't quite get the breakthrough.
On way home tired and slightly disappointed. Two poor sides played out a fairly drab game. We improved a fair bit in the second half and Stewart looks like he has a few tricks. Absolute worldy from lynch ended our chances. Thought Morison was our best player over the ninety mins. Wasn't all bad but a point would not of been unjust.

Consistent with what I was saying a while back... we were always good up to the international break but injuries and loss of form to key players will cost us unless we can sign decent loan players... A first choice XI with Kermorgant, Solly, Jackson and now Stewart(?) & Harriott is a match for anyone in this division but no-one can guarantee the best are available AND on top form every game.
We are going into a run of games that are hard and unforgiving... Millwall, Forest etc. so we need form, fitness and a slice of luck... starting Saturday
The match really was there for the taking but a real lack of energy and purpose in the first half made it a poor performance. I expect the players were still recovering from Watford but Pritch still seemed to be the only player chasing everything in the centre of the park. The subs were made to late, it was obvious that an injection of fit players would make a massive difference and they should of come on at half time as they did in the Barnsley game. The team did play a lot of football on the ground but were not running for each other into decent positions. Stewarts goal was the best Charlton goal Ive seen for a while.
The fact that this is the worst start to a season statistically for something like 7 years is all you need to know regarding the danger we are in when you consider that a couple of those were relegation campaigns.
Always interesting to read the banter between those who dare to question the manager and those who think he walks on water. My opinion, for what it's worth, is like most managers he does from time to time get it right, then , very often, he will change it for the next game and get it wrong again. He knows more than me as he makes informed decisions and I can't. However, does seem to me we keep parting company with crap, and then bringing in more crap. Time to give the kids a chance and send players like Sordell packing. IMO.
Really interesting reading the comments - sounds completely different to what we saw at Watford. Maybe the work rate from Saturday took its toll or maybe better opposition made us up our game. The lack of depth is concerning but like MIA said, nothing we can do about it. Just frustrating that we are 2/3 decent champ players away from being a pretty good side.
Really frustrating we didn't get anything last night.
Hudders seem to be a bogey side the past few seasons. We've played 4 away games now and not won any, think our home form is going to be vital in keeping us away from trouble
Shrew is right, that game was there for the taking but we just didn't have the energy or the nouse to do it. I do like our passing game but we are too slow at it, it is easy to pass it around on the half way line but we lacked the ability to penetrate their defence as we were too slow and just didn't have any attacking flair until the two winger came on, sorry did I say wingers, what I meant was wide midfielders. I gave Sordell a mark of 3 and that is really generous the guy showed no wish to be there or to play which then meant that Church wasn't getting the through balls to play. On that showing it really was two poor sides who will inhabit the lower reaches of the Championship this season, Hudds will do better than us as they have a proved fit goalscorer.
Good report on the OS. From what I can make out from the team list at the bottom, we played 3-5-3...with Sordell, Church and Kermorgant up front. How did we not win with that formation?

We beat them 1-0 away last season
That isn't what he meant. He was saying that you have played 4 away games this season and not won any.
For what it is worth, I thought you played quite well in phases, but very rarely looked like scoring. Church looked lost without Jann to play off, much as he did when he was here and Beckford or Vaughan were injured.
Huddersfield were poor, make no mistake. I honestly don't recall Hamer making a single save in the game.
Sordell is getting over-criticised. Yes his missed volley was a poor one, but he saw plenty of ball and turned his man well a few times. He hit a great diagonal pass to set up our first chance (Church header in the 45th minute). I would have liked to see him shoot rather than always looking for the killer pass which usually didn't come off. Stewart showed in one moment of quality that shooting does sometimes bear fruit! Marvin is a classic CL scapegoat. Before you get on his back remember we are going to need him before the season is done.
Interesting to see a new formation (2-7-1) after the double substitution. A better side than Hudds (and there are plenty in this division) would have put us to bed properly. They were shocking in giving us the ball back after our aimless stream of crosses to nobody in particular in the second half. We lacked physical presence up front even before Harriott and Stewart reduced our collective height by about two feet so why keep lumping it in from deep? We have been to Hudds often enough now to know that their centre backs will lap it up all night. Chris, someone needs to get past his man and try something different. Stewart showed it can be done.
Missed opportunity against a side that without Vaughan would be bottom three. Hope we don't rue those points come April.

We knew from the start this was going to be a difficult season. We've just got to hope we've got enough and a bit of.luck on our side to see us right.

Charlton: Hamer; Wilson, Morrison, Dervite, Wood (Stewart 68), Wiggins; Stephens, Pritchard, Jackson (Pigott 86); Church, Kermorgant, Sordell (Harriott 68).
Seems as if Ben's standards are slipping.
