Investment is a dinky little word in this context isn't it? I understand it to mean we stop becoming dependent on one rich person, and start becoming dependent on another. Whoever it may be there is the risk we are a vanity project for somebody unless they're a genuine fan, a community minded philanthropist if you like. The idea that you invest, and then take the cherries when you get to the (spit) premier league is a plan with more holes in it than the proverbial Swiss fromage. I would like to think that Chris Powell, if he is included and appraised of whatever situation we're in, would make the best of the limitations we've got, and would be wise with regard to any largess that turns up. So on that basis, the balance of the argument is Powell for me.
i think we will gain promotion and shoot me down if you want but i am allowed an opinion. i believe we now have the system, with the goals, if the defence recovers form we will get playoffs and we have a great chance there
The most important person at a football club is the manager. Not the all star centre forward or the chairman or even the tea lady. The manager gets the best out of players and improves them. Not every manager fits every club. SCP has already a track record of getting the best out of his players and engendering a good team spirit. What's more he fits our club. Insane to even consider his position.
It's no good giving money to a poor manager to spend, we tried that with Dowie, then repeated it with Pardew. Chris Powell is a very good manager, the fact that he's a club legend is just a bonus. So for any investor to get rid of him would make no sense at all.
There were some very unhappy people on here when the current board sacked Parkinson.
Probably because they believe(d) in stability.
But fortunately Powell has since proved himself to be more capable than Parky.
It was a gamble that paid off.
Due to Powell's status and track record he has surely earned the right to take the club as far as he feels he can, before anyone else gets a crack at it, regardless of who owns it.
Id be concerned about how wise the new investor was if they sacked Powell-it would make you wonder how much they actually understand about how to run a football club. As others have said, you'd worry about a Venkys MKII situation.
Why assume that new investment will want to bring a new manager ? Not necessarily so. (When I win the Euromillions, + invest, I will keep CP).
If the core of our players are signing long term contracts, then maybe the thing that encourages them to do that, is stability of management and playing under the manager that they know, respect and fight for.

I'm not doubting him for a second. I want to marry the man, but if this club found itself in the kind of s*** it did three years ago and the only option to secure our future was new owners then so be it. If the new owners thought that there was somebody better to do the job, which I doubt, then we'd all have to swallow it just like we did when Parkinson got the boot.
As I said earlier it's all circumstantial really. If we didn't have some form of investment in a time of need then I doubt whether the great man would stick around for too long anyway.
To me, charlton is not a chelsea. We are a community club that produces good players from the academy that care about the club and Powell to me represents exactly what we are about and not only that, but he is a fantastic manager but I earge patience so that we dont sack him stupidly like we did to pardew.

True apart from the last bit. Pardew is a dick who richly deserved the tin tack.

It says mountains that we were completely skint (just as much/more than we are now), yet still cobbled together a million quid to get rid of pardew. The guys a twat
And that is why many Charlton fans will always have a particular loathing for the gobshite. He kicked us when we were down and took no responsibility for his actions - he was the reason why we were in the cack in the first place.
Powell will lead the club to more investment by slowly moving up the league. I want a manager to stay and see it through and Powell is that man. Money does not always mean Better

I don't see it as an either or and I'm uncomfortable with it being presented as one (and with how quickly people are to say they'd say seeya to him)

Imagine if new investors are somehow inexplicably big fans of a certain Monsieur Pardew?!?
Just hope we're not In the fourth division by the time Powell leaves, lack of investment and all that.
Powell if we're not.

Investment + Powell + Charlton = Promotion
