The settlement will almost certainly have been sought by the party that pays compensation. If their offer meets or exceeds what the other party can expect to be awarded, there is really little choice but to settle.
I feel very let down by AB, as we know him, and I just hope that the compensation was worth it
Why do you feel "let down".? We are talking about a far from well-off man with a wife and child to look after.
AB was indeed looking forward to the tribunal. He's a warrior, and his wife, also a Charlton nut, backs him to the hilt. I therefore conclude that the offer must have been a decent one for his family, and I think we should respect that. There are actually more important things than the dirt on CAFC's backroom activities.
As Henry said, a proper honourable redundancy process would have been better all round.
Let's all just wait for Rick to get home, compose his thoughts & then post. He'll say what he can & won't say what he can't. There's no point second guessing any of this until Rick says something.
For what it's worth, of course I'd have loved to have had the inner workings of the club revealed, but he has to be pragmatic & think of his family & mortgage payments etc.

Rick's actually on a private jet en route to the Bahamas, but I'm sure he'll stick something up when he's got the wi-fi activated in the villa ;-)

how has he let you down ?
he has a family to support as his first priority and he's given enough hints to what he thinks of our present owners , ok we're not gonna get the ins and outs of a ducks arse but come on
This.
Assumed the original comment was either a predictive text typo or tongue in cheek.
I sure he would would prefer to still be employment at the valley, what ever he got, it probally is not a life changing amount, and still needs to find another job to pay the mortgage etc.
Agree with others. If someone offers you a sensible settlement in these circumstances, its absolutely right to take it. It's not just about compensation either. I imagine the settlement will have agreed wording for a reference, for example and I sure that the settlement isn't so high that Rick can do without working for the rest of his life!
Firstly, while this is all a bit titillating for us, this is real life we are discussing and in this case, a fellow fan out of work with a wife and kid to support. I hope you are happy with your settlement Airman.
Secondly, I wonder what impact any confidentiality clause will have on the Voice, particularly for any columns written under pseudonyms?

Depends on the motives of the club - if they want people out at any cost who are then unable to moan about their previous employer then CAFC are 2-up at half time.
A compromise agreement at the point of exit might have been easier but there's nothing like many months without a job to focus the desire for a cash settlement.
I am sure Rick is a very capable man, and in his way as much a warrior as Yann. However I have to imagine walking a mile in his shoes during this process, the responsibilities he feels, and the intricacies of the whole shebang. Then I have to imagine coming up against a high faluting Queens Counsel lawyer bloke who knows more about the law, even if I know more about my case, and about Charlton Athletic. It all becomes a bit tricky. There is even the point that a lot of linen washing may not reflect brilliantly on the club I love. Those who feel let down are, or were, probably looking for juicy details to chew on, and expected Rick to take things to the wire. I reckon AFKA as usual has called it right. We are talking about a real family man, and still a Charlton legend, who has to make a finely judged decision. Let down? Not me.
It saddens me to think that AB has done nothing wrong in this scenario and he loses his livelihood all because someone in power doesn't like him. The owners and management have a lot to answer for, IMO. The pay-off isn't gonna last forever.
Lancs must have meant let down "for" Rick, not 'by him'!?
ETs can be extremely stressful whether you have a strong case or not. You plan your approach, think through all the scenarios and organise your evidence (mulitple copies). Frequently sleepless nights over several months and financial hardship along the way during which you will likely find out who your real friends are too. Unions increasingly don't offer support unless the case fits a very neat profile. And even if you have support or a paid lawyer you have to instruct them in the finest detail and watch over them every step of the way. If the buggers settle you still have to abide by the compromise agreement and that means wondering what you can and can't say if anything and if you can't fully get it off your chest you still live with the anger despite the financial settlement. They will now be monitoring Rick (his printed word that is) especially if it's a large sum, as they can claw it back if he breaches the terms. Even if Rick gives evidence in another case against CAFC he will have to be careful and get clearance from the Judge.
I wonder if once new owners come in it might be easier to spill some beans but the agreement is probably with the corporate identity that is CAFC, so again care needed. It will likely be a long long time if at all before most of us get to hear any juicy details, and even then they are likely to be rumour and word of mouth. Rick will be judge of that of course, but we shouldn't expect any further details now and i hope people will give Rick a break and respect his situation. For the meantime, very well done Rick for getting the settlement and I hope you can get back to enjoying the football and all that goes with it now this stage of the case is out the way.

Is it really though? Is there a possibility that the club's owners have deliberately engineered these situations so that they get the confidentially agreements they want and effectively gag people from telling something else? A conspiracy theory, I know and I have nothing to back it up but it does seem to be a possibly.

You feel let down? Sorry but that's just a ridiculous thing to say.
no it's not ridiculous, but that's not the point, you and others ask why I feel let down and the answer is I'm not sure, I s'pose all through this period since AB left cafc he has been tell us all bits and pieces about the running of the club, for which we are grateful but the underlying thought being that we'll find out the full SP when it gets to court and then it doesn't, so we don't, so I feel let down.
Of course Rick accepts the CA and I'm glad he has and by saying that I hope it is worth it what I meant was that I hope he has received a good settlement as I do understand such things as in my days of work I negotiated these things and eventually received one myself!

A very humane and sensitive response. I can't help but think that the whole process must have been enormously draining for Rick and his family, whilst the people who have caused it all still don't give a monkeys. The sooner these nasty people are gone, the better for everyone.

Any bets on when the Kavanagh case will be settled?
