Just isnt clicking at the moment and I put that mostly down to the fact that it's still start of the season with all the players a bit rusty. That was shown with sloppy passes and overall lack of concentration. Give it a few more matches where we can hopefully pull of a win with a bit of commitment and determination to get us going, and thing should start to click. I wouldn't drop anyone. I trust the players who are out there to get us mid table
First half we didn't pass the ball well and it didn't improve enough in the second. Most players had a poor game. The back four and Yann were disappointing. The full backs can play and pass a lot better than they did. The centre backs too often hoofed the ball, some were hopeful passes at best and others panicky clearances.
The midfield still isn't right. I don't know what some expect from Green, he's put in a number of performances like that in this league and the one below. Jackson barely got involved before going off. Stephens started well but faded. Gower had some good moments but generally was poor. If we're playing we'll Harriott would see more of the ball. Like Gower he has some decent moments but didn't have a great game. Read some suggestions that he's gone backwards - I don't think he played that differently to last season, it's just that any mistakes made are more easily forgiven when a young player has his first run in the team.
Up front Yann, like Solly, didn't look like the same player. Sordell wasn't too involved but when he was I wasn't impressed. Church added some energy, as said he looked more up for it than Sordell.
For me we need to look back at our good run at the end of last season. We won games through hard work and being organised. We can play 4-4-2 but we need Pritchard, or in his place Wilson at RM. Give Church a go up front to hopefully add more energy and urgency. At CB there's not a great deal between them. Similar story in CM but a bigger problem, all CMs lack a bit of pace and none of them carry the ball.
I do wonder if Cousins should be given a go, after last seasons disappointing loanees in that area I have doubts we'll find anyone that improves on what we have. Whenever I've seen Cousins he works hard and reads the game well, but has mainly played a purely defensive role. Tuesday we saw he's not afraid to get forward and in that run showed a bit of pace. We did well last season with Gower or Hughes alongside Jackson, but we'd improve with a mobile CM that can pass and tackle. Pritchard's not strong enough and needed out wide. Probably sounds like I'm clutching at straws but like Harriott, Cousins was always one of the 2/3 stand out players in that age group. If our midfield continues to struggle I hope he gets a chance sooner than later.
when CP came back as manager watching him from the NWest Quad i "thought rabbit in head lights he hasnt a clue".----------------his first full season and a new team of his players we get 101 points. Re thinking ---im sure his body language was shock at how bad we were and the job he had to do. Yesterday im sure i saw something similar to when he first stood on the touch line . He isnt very animated anyway but to me it did look like " yes i know our midfield are pony but ive done the best i can with nothing---------not my fault". How long will he stay when he cant get his first choice transfers or even his 5 th choice transfers?
We know we are potless and thats not down to CP but i still dont get why he is so down on Hollands ? the team is crying out for energy and at least he does get up and down the pitch.
Few thoughts here. Didn't think it was the disastrous performance some are suggesting it was. There were worse games last season. Individually Wiggins, Gower and Green all had stinkers.
No criteria, I've been on here years and still not in the clique but I do know that making up imaginary posts to support your (instant) agenda against CP is probably going to raise a few doubts as to whether you're genuine or on the wind up.
That when you quote people you do so accurately and not by imagining things that you think they said. As I mentioned above no one said that criticism of CP is verboten because of his England caps. So why make that claim?
Words fail me, horrible performance. No movement, so ball was constantly given away cheaply. Nobody ever looked likely to take on and beat his man. Yann and Sordell look like they don't even know each other. First home game of season I am already depressed, lets hope it can only get better.
Just to clear it up mate, I was referring to a group of our fans for whom all criticism of CP will always be off limits, regardless of the circumstances. A previous poster stated that he/she did indeed put CP on a pedestal because he was capped while a player for us, as well as managing us to 101 points in League One.
Personally I can see the day coming when CP picks a team of 11 goalkeepers and we lose 10-0 at home to Millwall...and people still post that they love SCP because of the way he leaps out of the tunnel.
Very disappointing, as that will be the last match I'll see this season.
I sympathise with you season ticket holders that went through that disastrous run of home games last year and am not surprised that many didn't renew as that was a poor performance.
Boro weren't great but at least they had a few shots (mostly off target).
The Dean Whitehead/Yann Kermogant incident was right in front of me and definitely looked like a red card to me; absolutely blatant. And after that incident I can hardly remember Yann winning a header, which I know is unusual. But would we have beaten ten men? Without improved performances all round probably not.
So we're potless and pointless. That does not augur well.

Jordan Cousins in is a good shout, Curbs brought Scott Parker on gradually and he turned into a fine player. Not sure whether we have the luxury to wait this time though. Don't agree with Pritchard on the right doesn't work either. At least Wilson knows the right back position and how to support Solly. Green as impact sub only. Pritchards energy is better in the middle. Got to be 5 in midfield, this happened last year and our midfield was over run before CP changed things around and solidified things.
Stephens is better further forward, he gets goals and can be creative without having to worry so much about defensive duties, which he does not do well. If other midfielders know their roles and what they are supposed to be doing in terms of defensive midfield duties then Stephens may flourish. Yesterday, Stephens improved things but there was no plan to cover the gaping holes he leaves in midfield. Middlesborough strolled around the wide open spaces of midfield like they were on a country day trip. With 5 in midfield, we don't surrender the middle of the park. Given defensive midfielders doing their job, Stephens may have a role. Gower, may fit in better further up the pitch. They are similar players, I don't see how you can play Gower and Stephens in the same midfield. It is either or.
Sordell was massively disappointing, contributed little and given the shape of things should have been subbed for Church earlier or an additionally midfielder added for the centre. Maybe Sordell needs to train with the team for a few more weeks before being put back into the team, or dropped to the subs bench. He has to realise that he needs to work hard to prove himself to the Valley faithful. We don't need another Marcus Bent / Hassellbaink type player at the club at this moment. He has a little slack as he has just arrived, but he really needs to pull his finger out. He won't do his confidence any good, playing him when his attitude, integration into the team or fitness is not up to scratch.
52 mins before we had a shot on target, don't think Boro would have scored unless we gifted it to them. As bad as our players were, their No.27 was worse.
I don't want another manager but have and will criticise Chrissy when I think it is warranted. The team he put out didn't look too bad at 3pm but if it isn't working - even at 0-0 he has to do something - not wait until we go one down!
Very disappointing, as that will be the last match I'll see this season.

I thought it was a red card as well. Hopefully these things even out. The sending off that Fuller won against Bolton was marginal last year. We are now owed one for the Whitehead challenge. If Whitehead had gone off, the game would have been more even, as the assault was mid way through the first half. Admittedly Stephens could have gone for his challenge late on but by then the game was gone already.

Just seen the goal again on the bbc. Appalling defending for the goal. KMG did a rubbish header, but Hamer was nowhere near getting the ball. Where was his communication ? Given the clattering KMG taken throughout the game maybe KMG should have been subbed by that point. It would have been worth seeing a Piggott / Church combination after the success of the Oxford game.

He did. He took Jackson off for Stephens at half time and we overran Boro for the first 20 minutes of that second half. That was when we needed to score, we didn't and were made to pay for it.

A good turn out in the North upper, yesterday.
4-5-1 was right in certain games, such as when we played Brighton.
Our good run came with Yann and Fuller up front (who could both hold up the ball) and a 4 man midfield with Pritchard on the right.
I don't see how Pritchard on the right didn't work? We got some good results and he also allows Solly to get forward. I expect Wilson will start there next week with Pritchard suspended. Agree Green should only be an impact sub.
Aside from the odd game I'd also say Yann is better alongside another striker.
I think SCP knows more about man-management than you maginotaddick and I'm sure he'll address the problems in private rather than coming out and saying so and so was a right cock out there today
And the reason SCP is on a pedestal is because to many Charlton fans he was the first Charlton player to represent England in our lifetimes , he represented us during our most successful times in our footballing lives , he came back and managed us to a record points and title winning team, he then followed up with (little backing) a more than decent 9th place finish which will lead to fucktards thinking that we have a right to be pushing for the play offs this season and moaning like complete fannys after two poor defeats Of course he can be criticised and clearly a lot of players underperformed today but he's shown before he can get us going again , patience is the key in SCP we trust
Take a bow. Nicely put
Seconded.
Especially the bit about "fucktards" - made me laugh!
Yes, top class.
It is obvious that for a section of our support, who put CP on a pedestal, he will always be the man comewhat may, and even losing 10-0 at home to Millwall will see no criticism of him.
SCP talk is juvenile.
Judge him like any other manager. Very good at the end of last season, but tactically embarrassing on our first two games this.
Thanks for calling me a juvenile, Maginot. Best compliment I've had for years !
Seriously, don't recall you posting much/at all before this season started so wondering whether you have an agenda of some kind.
Suggest you post your thoughts on the situation but stop making "juvenile" comments on the views of others, especially when it comes to SCP.

Are you Dowie in disguise trying to get his job back? Every post you've wrote has been slagging off CP. Starting to sound like a broken record.

Fair point regarding KMG. Can Piggott play up front with KMG ? (is he ready ?) Maybe start with Church as he looks like he will help out the midfield with Piggott on for impact. If Pritchard is ever to be considered at right midfield then the centre of midfield needs to be absolutely spot on, do we have the midfielders to play an attacking 442 ? We need midfielders to protect the back 4. My head hurts. I always think that there is a way though, which is probably why I still attend, alongside seeing my brother. CP did manage to pull it together last season. Lets hope he can do it again. A more difficult task this year.
The maginot line is that lots of us put Chris Powell on a pedestal. I agree he is not beyond criticism and advice and help, but the continual comments are bordering on the snide. I agree with fanny on this. So, maginot, put yourself on the line and suggest a better manager than Chris Powell that we could realistically have at the moment.
I explained why I have SCP (its a little bit of fun and respect to a Charlton legend to call him that nothing serious) on a pedestal
I also said "Of course he can be criticised " but Magi only reads what he wants and craves attention so he's got it fairplay
Bloke signs up, posts 33 times in two days - most basically saying the same thing - and expects us to believe he's a brand new poster who has never been on here before, or anywhere, and has simply just discovered the site and has developed verbal diarrhoea.

We need midfielders to protect the back 4. My head hurts. I always think that there is a way though, which is probably why I still attend, alongside seeing my brother. CP did manage to pull it together last season. Lets hope he can do it again. A more difficult task this year.
So, maginot, put yourself on the line and suggest a better manager than Chris Powell that we could realistically have at the moment.
I also said "Of course he can be criticised " but Magi only reads what he wants and craves attention so he's got it fairplay
Right-o.
