  • Sounds as if that coulibaly was lively but couldn't take any of his chances. Shame.

It's one game. Give the lad a chance.
I am. It is a comment on what I've perceived to be his performance tonight based only on comments on here and Twitter! I've not written him off by saying it's a shame he hasn't scored have I? Isn't it a shame when any player has chances and doesnt score?
  • That was his chance wasn't it

Think I read Powell say he was with us for the week, so guess he may be involved at Pompey.

  • Improvement on our last visit there when I believe we lost.

Think Powell said he is a bit behind preparation and game time about 2 weeks so not quite up to speed got give him more time

This. Seems he's been on our radar for a while so SCP won't be making a decision based on 50 minutes tonight. He has been scouted and I think what he does in training in attitude and of course ability will be just as important as a run out semi fit in a few friendlies.

  • Thought the trialist was good tonight. Battled well for the ball and was physically strong.
Surprised that our first team half had a better handle on the game than the second although subs would of played a major part
  • I thought that Coulibaly was probably the best player there along with Yann. Thought Button looked very shaky.
  • Agree. Hope Yanb has Saturday off. Did enough today to warrant it
  • @RichCawleySLP: Chris Powell impressed with Adamo Coulibaly. Said trialist striker "Acquitted himself well".
  • @RichCawleySLP: "He looked a goal threat and is quick. As he gets fitter training with us we'll see an even sharper Coulibaly."

  • look forward to seeing him at pompey
  • Seems like Powell already knows he wants him - good back up for Yann. Get Obika and Sordell then we are talking.
  • To the tune of the scousers Suarez song 'do do do do do do do do Cou-li-baly'
  • Coulibaly looked very threatening. A lot of pace and kept harassing their defenders.

How bad was Ross Worner in the first half!!!
  • Were dooooommmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!
  • @RichCawleySLP: CP expecting to play Coulibaly again at Pompey on Sat. Reckons fully up to speed can "cause problems in the Championship".
  • Worner was shocking. Should of given away a penalty and distribution was awful

A few observations from tonight's match. Started briskly, a significant increase of tempo and energy from the Welling game; both teams were up for it. Stephens was dispossessed in vital midfield areas three times in the first 20 minutes. Neat goal from Green, skilful in bringing the ball down and finishing with a crisp low shot. Coulibaly looked promising, has acceleration and pace, chased down a back-pass to the keeper and got stuck in; he's physical and tough in the way that Obika isn't. (A few stats: born Ivory Coast, age 31, height 6-ft 3-ins, club football in Belgium, France and currently Hungary; impressive strike-rate with 115 goals in 249 apps.) Appalling mix-up in our defence led to AFC Wim hitting the post with Button stranded. Shocking defending for the equaliser: corner from the left, unchallenged header at the back post.

Coulibaly had his chance of glory in the second half when cutting in from the right he elected to pass instead of shoot. Green's usual failings included a corner straight to the keeper and a misplaced pass in an attacking move on the right. Yann looked good, successfully chasing down defenders and winning possession. Long periods in the second half when the midfield was absent and AFC were on top. The usual dithering over throw-ins when in the opposing half, with no-one running down the line and the ball thrown backwards and then passed back further still; all advantage lost.

Summary: a fair result against a team two divisions below us. Outlook: bleak.
  • Got back from the game.

No doubt in my mind Coulibaly was man of the match.

A bit behind the rest of the squad, and ran out of steam later on, but definitely offers something different to what we have.

On that showing, if we don't take him, someone else will...

  • Thanks for the info everyone - it sounds like Coulibaly made a favourable impression. Interesting!
  • Brave of gaffer to give fringe players an hour to be a contender. Only new boy stepped up. Wood not up to Mambo standard. Button dodgy, Stephens too static, needs to receive and move to give options. Little time for others to impress. No Harriott so DH then Ceddy before he moved to LB. One run left 2 for dead. I asked if he will sign and got a shrug. Pigott good hold up but no threat. Cook, why? Rest as expected.
  • This new boy sounds better than McLeod at least

We drew with Welling in a pre season friendly when we were in the prem - it means very little.

Is that logic and optimism I hear? Wash your mouth out!!!
  • right enough of the tosh talk about long seasons

it was a pre season friendly and counts for nothing other than fitness

    bad points

Button needs to sort himself out on that showing he was woeful
Woods was not very confident on the ball
    Stephens looks dis interested
Cook is a long way off championship football

    good points

Joe Piggot is a very good footballer and will turn into a very very good cafc player , his technique and link up play was superb in a ten min cameo this kid is ready this season don't fear the striker situation at all

Yann looks hungry and is really looking lean and mean

the new fella looks good enough and with fitness I am with powell could be a real handful you could see he was trying to endear himself to the squad with his lay offs and passing instead of shooting

Wiggins looked like a man on his way back

    The whole team looks fit

    Green especially

no real negatives a nice evening in good company

the lino telling pritch to shut his mouth was quality, however the lino was shit fat bald and was wearing his granddads shirt for the first half
  • Chrissy was trying things out - score means nothing - ICT will be the one that gives a better picture of where we are.
  • Good to hear Coulibaly did ok. If we want him let's not wait around for someone else to sign him.

And his mum's in the second half.

Have already seen miss of the season, when their player went round the keeper. Five yards out and he hits the post, whilst falling over and then at the ref for a pen.

Nice on NLA.... thank god for a bit of sanity

I wasn't able to get to game, I read your comment on Coulibaye, 'in your opinion' and obviously based on one game! how would he fit into existing squad and which players would link up/ suit his game best?
