I think I probably would although I would, like others, want a full Real Madrid side. I might also feel less inclined if ticket sales were poor. Games in stadiums with 3,000 present lose something.
How many chances will you get to see Real Madrid play charlton at the valley? I'd pay £55 for it, I fear it won't be too long that £55 will be the going rate to watch premiership football and not just the 'top four'
Indeed, and looking at the posts on here you can see why ticket prices continue to rise.
It's a strange one. I guess it is being done at a loss as a 'gift' to their fans, despite the extortionate prices their owner must have deep pockets. I don't think £60 is justifiable but if it sells out, I guess it is. I've paid more than that a few times, albeit never for a friendly.
Madrid played in Dublin a few days after we did in '09, against Shelbourne I think. I'd be interested to know how much tickets were there, I remember that being a strong squad.
If costs £150 to watch Madonna or Bon Jovi for the same amount of time you have to think on that basis £60 is not too much. I disagree with others , I think Bournemouth will probably sell a lot and if it was at The Valley I'm sure we would also .
Yeh but your pretty much guaranteed the entertainment at a concert or show.
Yes and I'm pretty certain most would too no matter how much they would moan about it.
Real Madrid are arguably the most illustrious and successful club in the history of football. If you wouldn't pay good money to see them play at your own clubs home ground in a once in a lifetime situation, then you've got to be mad.
Or not that bothered by a friendly to shell out £60.

I am guessing you are quite young Tom, and assume you can speak for the world. Well old son, you can't. I am pretty certain that anyone who has been into football since players earned good money rather than stupid money would probably not. I can see Real Madrid on the tele if I want to. If Charlton were playing them in a competetive match then yes I would, for a friendly never, even if they were playing Di Stefano and Puskas...

reckon we might scrape a draw if they were on the team sheet.
No chance. The culture of making bags if cash out of pre-season friendlies saddens me. Girlfriend wants me to come to a Spurs friendly against Espanyol for 20 quid. It's normal to them. To me it's utterly ridiculous.
Your paying £60 quid to see Real Madrid not Bournemouth , lots of people think nothing of lashing out this and more on nights out at the theatre , concerts etc , if we held a similar event at the Valley , would we sell out and our fans still moan because it was expensive and the 'true' fan couldn't afford to get in?
I'm sure the 'true ' fans will turn out in big numbers to watch ICT at the valley instead.
For a competitive match I'd think twice but would probably go for it on the basis that it may never happen again. For a friendly? No - there's no guarantee that RM would play their A team and even if the likes of Ronaldo played I doubt it would be for more than one half and then they'd play at half-pace.
If the figures quoted upthread are realistic then it looks like Bournemouth and their Russian part-owner are subsidising this heavily. If that's true and if they have money to burn good luck to them, but I'd rather that we played a reasonablt competitive friendly and spent the money on the squad.

26 actually, and have been watching Charlton for 20 years. I'm still confident that most would end up going after the hype and pre-match excitement building up to the day.
Us playing Real Madrid is still a very abstract idea, because it has never happened. If it were to one day be announced that we were playing them in a friendly with £60 tickets, the tune would be a lot different.
Half the board were talking about not renewing season tickets last year, but I'd be very surprised if the majority have followed through with that threat.

Who?
I don't recall a mass boycott of the club/non-renewal of STs. Maybe a few of the usual suspects were moaning - they don't represent anywhere near half the posters on this site.
It's worth pointing out that Bournemouth are only charging that much because they have a tiny ground and have to try and cover the fee they have to pay to Real.
Leicester have a 30k seater stadium and charged their fans less than £25 for a friendly a couple of years ago. And they sold out.
If it was at the Valley, i doubt we'd be charged 60 quid.

As I said, you are young. The twenty years you have been watching football co-incides with Sky taking the game over. You may have been elected spokesman for your generation, but not for mine. The re-newing season tickets thing is totally different, it's about loyalty ( and suffering ), not about being impressed by celebrity and fame, and judging everything by its cost, rather than its value. You are completely entitled to your opinion Tom, and you are erudite and intelligent, but please stop assuming everyone has the same opinion as you, or would react as you do given a certain set of circumstances.

I've paid £30+ to sit/stand on a sh*tty wooden seat at Selhurst, so another £20 quid to Real's galactico's wouldnt be a problem.
I reckon that some of the people saying they wouldn't pay it, probably would give in and go if the game was actually arranged.

I'd pay it.
I reckon our fans are the most hard-up out of all clubs.
