• Good footballer...pizz poor striker...end of.
• mY dad likened him to a sainsburys trolley as his legs always worked independently of each other - like trolley wheels
• Hat-trick at Ipswich, me and my dad nearly fainted.
• Looking at my In 1984 They Said This Club Was Finished Poster and there he is in the 93 box. Still makes me smile
• There was a book out about 2-3 years ago called something similar to: The Worst Players for each League Club, Leaburn was ours. Personally I thought it was very harsh. Other players included Ali Dia, Thomas Brolin, Sean Dundee and Bosko Balaban. From what I have heard and read, Leaburn is nowhere near in the samr category
• Leaburn was a players player. Paul Williams liked playing alongside him.

Best trapper of a ball with his chest I've seen in nearly 50 years.

Unfortunately players players are not always fans players.

I give you Radostin Kishishev as a more recent example. Regular victim of the booboys yet his colleagues would all have him in the side because he gave blood for the shirt.
• At Charlton, eventually Carlo had cult status.

He could be a bit 'Lisbie like' in front of goal, but could he set up chances for others.....!

For a big man, think Harlem Globetrotter physique, he had good balance, quickish feet and a decent first touch.
But as is quite often the case, the very tall footballers are not always very effective in the air, they don't seem to be able to make the most of their height advantage. And nor really did Carlo.

But despite his reputation, he eventually carved a respectable status at Charlton, and chimed in with a decent enough goal tally once he matured.
• Would love to know what the defenders he played against thought about him. My guess is that none enjoyed carlo`s "pile of scaffolding" physique.

Totally agree. Opposition defenders would be drawn to him like a magnet leaving others with more time. I'm sure i read somewhere that he was Clive Mendonca's preferred partner.
• I'd love the club to get him out onto the pitch at half time.

We haven't seen him for years!

• is he still loitering behind the west ham bench .... seen him on MOTD a few times, think he was some sort of scout for them
• He works for the Press Association as a match reporter, but also does other sports reporting for them. He is sometimes at the Valley working.

Anyone remember the mazy run in the box for his goal at Roots Hall ?

I nearly had a heart attack !
• Just seen this thread.

When i was a nipper and i first started going to the Valley, i remember being in the Players bar (which i swear was just a portacabin!) waiting for the players to sign my programme. Leaburn was one of the first out and the last to leave, signing stuff for me and my mates.

A Legend in my book.
• No way, no way was Carlo our worst ever player, miles from that.Len Glover on here calls it right, and as for opposition defenders, they hated playing against Carlo, he was a handful always even if not prolific. Anyway close your eyes and re-live that header against Kasey Keller in that Millwall game when Lee Bowyer scored.

And let nobody forget him at The Battle of Stamford Bridge.
• Leaburn legend

I still can't believe I witnessed that.

Yep, another time Charlton nearly killed me.

one of the funniest things i saw was the whole end following the run moving back and forward with him
• Our Emile Heskey in his day - poor record in front of goal, not as big and mean as he should have been and continually picked by various managers much to the confusion of many fans. Good player or otherwise, he's still a legend in my eyes as he was an integral part of those backs to wall, just managing to survive years between about 88 and 96 that formed the backbone of my love for this wonderful club.

Besides, without Carlo, Walshie wouldn't have scored that oh so wonderful goal at on 5/12/92. Legend for that alone imo.

Quality! I can just picture people in our end dropping a shoulder left, swaying to the right, checking, swaying again to the right - and sending the bloke standing next to you the wrong way down the gangway, ha ha.

ogster it was hillarious he seemed to take an age to finish the chance and everyone was a swaying
• Chelsea away last game of the season was another cult Leeeeeeeeeeeaburn moment
• Seen him regularly outside the West over the last couple of years, presumably reporting. He sure has put on some weight!
•
[cite]Posted By: Ollywozere[/cite]Seen him regularly outside the West over the last couple of years, presumably reporting. He sure has put on some weight!
He'd say the same about me

I saw him a year or so ago and wouldn't describe him as you are....yes he's obviously put on some weight but he aint fat.
• carl-a complete wonder! I fondly rememberhim being tackled by a corner flag at Griffin Park! My fav memory is him scoring a flukey goal at villa off mountfields foot and we started chanting 'englands number 1'!
anyway LEABURN is THE Name on twittter and xbox live if ur intersted
• Used to make me laugh how some TV pundits and commentators would mis-pronounce his name and call him Le Burn.
• Never saw a forward play so defensivly, I am sure he played more balls away from the opposition goal than towards it.

Been a long time critic of the man, and i am not gonna change with a revisionist view now. Yes he was a decent hold up player......

He held us up from being promoted for years...... Sorry about that ! but to me the most frustrating player of the past and by christ we have had a few.......

As curbs said you will never convince some of the fans 'Carl'...... hands up to that charge I am afraid.
• I liked him in the end, he started off at a tough time for the club and was very poor to start with. A legend due to sticking it out, working hard and comimng good eventually. It was only when we started playing to his strengths it all clicked i.e the 1st year of Curbs & Gritt.
• Defo one of those much more appreciated by his team mates than the fans. Personally, I grew to love the geezer and thought he developed in a decent player who made the most of what he had from a very rocky start that was due to him being thrown in way too young.
