We did a Beano from my pub a couple of weeks ago to Lewes, 38 of us! Absolutely fantastic. I really cannot imagine there can be another town in England to have so many pubs that were all good pubs. It's not a big place, saw about 13 or 14 and went in 10 or 11 and they were all great and the ale everywhere was good quality.

We really like Lewes, it's an easy day out from Hastings, next time you do a beano you should come down to Hastings old Town.

Used it for going to games at Brighton's new ground, like you say brilliant choice of pubs in a really nice area
A new micropub in Hither Green - Mathbrew - has just been given planning permission; it'll liven up the dying parade of shops on Springbank Road. There's another little bar, Drink At Bob's, planned for Hither Green Lane.

He's a regular poster on here. Been a very long road for him as he came up against some very petty residents. Planning is the most difficult thing to get and hopefully he'll be open in a few months. He's a top lad.

So many to choose from although my favourites are the Jenny Lind and the dolphin

Had a win on the meat raffle in the Dolphin yesterday....steak burgers. I'd add the FILO to those two pubs you mentioned there.
I'd forgotten about Webster's Yorkshire Bitter - understandably.
Fascinating. Conclusions, the choice of real ale has increased immeasurably but the quality and quantity of pubs has declined even more. So many wonderful pubs on there that are now gone or a shadow of their former selves. Some great lost beers too, Ind Coope Burton Ale, Charrington Bass and IPA, Weatherheads and the real Courage Best and Directors. Loads of pubs showing "No Real Ale", pretty rare these days and that is down to CAMRA. I was probably at my peak of drinking in lots of different pubs in 1988, 23 years old and young free and single. Met my wife in the November and although my pub visits didn't stop they just became more concentrated on just a few local ones.

Love the Dolphin and the Cinque Port Arms!
Was in both yesterday...top pubs though the Dolphin is better for beer.

Nice food too in the filo
Yes not to bad at all, they do Tapas in there on a Monday which is pretty good.
I made the mistake of trying the London Trader when I was in Hastings last. I won't be dong that again.
Went in the London Trader mid-90s on a jolly boys outing out of Belvedere. Massive off in pub with locals, attempt at an outside bench through the windows, and ended up being escorted out of town by riot police. Thank the lord for pre-CCTV. Crazy day, and that wasn’t even the main event!

It was widely reported yesterday that Enterprise Inns (EI Group) are considering selling their whole property portfolio. This could be really bad news for pubs in SE London as EI and it's subsidiary companies own loads of them; Pelton, Red Lion & Bull (both Shooters Hill) and the Park Tavern in Eltham to name just a few. I wouldn't imagine many tenants would be able to or even want to buy their freeholds. They may not even be given the option. Of course other Pub Co's like Youngs or M&B may be interested but more worryingly so will loads of property developers.

I wish both bars well that area is sadly lacking
