although poxy roadworks did their best to make the journey longer than normal.

I drove through a total of 12 different sets of roadworks on the way home last night.

Yes, was every highway maintenance worker in the country working on the M4 last night! Did you see the accident near London?

I don't agree that we deserved a win, as they had as many chances as we did. They also hit the post and had a goal disallowed for off side.

Solly was his usual excellent self, but Bellamy (who was playing on the left) was dangerous and beat Solly a couple of times by cutting in onto his right foot.
  • Is that the Met at the back of our stand filming?? Good pic tho, usual suspects.

  • À good lesson for chris Solly playing against a bellamy who has genuine quality.

    Sounds like he done well.

Hope he is with us next season-find it amazing there's not been more interest from Prem clubs. Quality no-nonsense defender who continues to improve.
Best defender we've had since CP!
  • Really enjoyed this game for our organisation, determination and positive play. we had the best chances in each half. Few observations.

    - Hamer handled well but should work on being more aggressive from corners. He can always hairdry his barnet after the game if its gets ruffled. He can too often be in no mans land.

    - Defence played very well. Morro and Dervite are playing well together and are big and physical. Not sure what passes DD spots sometimes though! Full backs, excellent.

    - Another good display from the midfield four. Not as dominant as past few games but didn't let themselves get dominated as they have earlier in the season. Hughes is our link man now and his positioning and calling of the ball is what is keeping us away from lumping it long to Kerm.Harriot looked sharp again. Would like Pritch to be fed a lot and placed on the weights this summer as it will only help.

-Both battled well. Fuller will always worry teams as much as he might frustrate some of our fans. The swivel and shot was classic Ric.

    Well done boys.
  • Thought it was a pretty even game and a draw was a fair result. Great to see the lads on a roll and things finally seem to be clicking in to place. My only real gripe is with Fuller. Thought he showed flashes of great football but other times run himself in to trouble and lost the ball. Really unlucky not to score though.
All in all another solid performance and another clean sheet.

agree sometimes he is frustrating, ignores a simple pass and loses the ball but I think you have to leave him to it as he can make something out of nothing.
  • Their keeper made a couple of tremendous saves whereas Ben Hamer had few shots on target to deal with. We are becoming masters of the 'break' and with a bit more fortune could have come away with a win. I don't think we'll make the p/os but all is looking well for next season IF we can keep hold of the youngsters and if the old 'uns (Jackson, Hughes, Kermorgant and Fuller) can maintain form, fitness and enthusiasm
  • P/OS - is that the lazy mans playoffs.?

    OOPS: Wrong quote
  • @hardyaddick Whatever the reason for our poor home form it is not the Valley pitch, we were poor before the pitch got bad and were being beaten by long ball teams and passing teams as we were after the pitch got bad. the reason, may have been psychological, or tactical or luck but the pitch was not the season long reason and it does seem now that we have got it right, without the pitch problem being solved.

Well done to the team, lets hope we can maintain our away form next season and add it to the home form. Good luck to Cardiff, they maybe written off now, but then so were Swansea.
  • Kap10. You may be right. It may be psychological or a mixture of things. Lets just hope its behind us now.
  • Good point for us, well done Cardiff and good luck to them I have a feeling they are going to need it
  • Best atmosphere ive experienced all season... but that was to be expected!

Solly had another quality game, that block in the first half when they were two on one was brilliant. Pritchard would be lethal if he had any form of first touch. And it was only 10mins i know but Gower wasn't great.

Just a shame with the pitch invasion, it would have been good to show our appreciation to the boys for another solid away performance!
  • I think the team on the field did magnificent last night. Their crowd certainly were very intimidating with their noise and our small bunch were fighting a lost cause in the singing stakes. I was so hoping for us to score just to quieten them down but it just didn't happen. And when they scored the goal the ground literally shook until they realized it had been disallowed. We did our best to rain on their parade but it didn't quite happen.

I was very impressed with the set up at Cardiff. The visitors parking was so easy. Their concourse was pretty good and a nice compact stadium. I did think the Stewards/Police were a bit over the top with our lot. They did seem to be looking for some trouble makers but there were none. We were pinned in one little corner though and it could have got nasty if the old Cardiff had reared its head.

A long day all in all as we made a day of it and spent some time in Bath on the way through. A really lovely city by the way. The drive back was smooth but of course they bring the roadworks out in the night time. Just meant we were restricted to 50 mph for stretches at a time.

I think that's it for the playoffs now but we are starting to find our groove. Chris is getting that balance and when you consider what he has achieved this year on very little monetary support he has to be given a lot of credit for that. I hope the Board see that he is the way forward for CAFC. I think they will.

All in all I feel happy with the season but I do wonder what could have happened if Chris had felt a bit more confident (is that the right word?) earlier in the season rather than taking the safety route. I do recognize, though, that he knew the most important thing was that we stayed up and consolidated so his approach is understandable. Hopefully next season he will have learnt a lot from this and will be allowed to push forward. Could be exciting times for us (at least I hope so).

Now, three more games to go so let's see what we do.
  • just got home after a night with Lass's family in Cardiff.

Watched the match in an exec box surrounded by Cardiff fans including Joe Kalzakie (?). Thought Cardiff lacked punch up front, both our fullbacks contained their wide players very well and Hughzie mopped up and passed out on the ground. The Cardiff supporters were very complementary about young Harriott. Really thought Fuller's shot was goal bound as was sitting right behind him and saw the ball curling into the corner but a very good save by Marshall. Best moment was right at the end when CP and MM shared a laugh with their arms round each others shoulders -all in all a good result for both clubs.
  • Doubt they will though.

better not otherwise I will have to spend a day wearing a Millwall shirt (although I'm confident they won't have one big enough)

  • Not sure about that Large they have some right oompah loompers in their crowd

We didn't even play Cardiff if you read the metro (read the caption under the pic of Morrison).

I'd be surprised if that 'reporter' can actually write

I'm not getting a tan for anyone ;-)
  • LOL Large made me chuckle

Got really nervous when Cardiff had a 2 on 1 (Solly) breakthrough, Kim pushed the ball a bit too far, and you could see Solly instantly taking the clever decision to rush and block the shot, which probably turned out to a prevent a goal - he's amazing.

Agreed. Solly made the tackle of the season. He was in a hopeless position (although I knew he'd save it).
He positioned himself superbly mid way between the two & then when Kim made a slight mis control he was on him in a flash. Absolutely superb defending. Better than Bobby Moore on Pele.
  • Superb performances by our lads last night and might've nicked a winner with Jacko's free kick and Fuller's curler which I can't believe their keeper got to.

Have to echo what others have said about the atmosphere and welcome we received- I met some great people in McDonalds before the game and most stuff in the stands was good natured although it did almost get out of hand at one point.

Lots of handshakes over the netting separating us from the Cardiff fans at the end. One lady steward was in tears and she got a big hug.

The scene at the final whistle:

  • And another pic:

  • Was a bit surprised to see Danny Green coming on last night, when Wilson was also on the bench. And what's happened to Stephens?
