  • Lets finish above Palace- 2 draws and 2 defeats from their last 4 (reasonable call on current form) and we can do them.

they're 8 points in front of us we have 3 games left .... so they've gotta draw 1 and lose 3 while we win 3 and make up their goal dif which is 8 better than ours ... not gonna happen unfortunately

If they lose 3 and we win 3 that already takes the minimum goal difference down to 2.

This finish will hopefully help TJ find a buyer. He can sell us as a club on the up, very close to being a promotion side. Great manager, excellent players and a strong academy. Add a nice ground and the location - God I'd buy us if I had the money!

That says a lot on how far we have come!
  • So impressed with Solly. I haven't seen him as much as most of you who go every week. What a quality player. He dictated some of the game from right back. Really hope we keep hold of him.
IMHO that side doesn't need much added to it to mount a serious play off challenge next season.
  • Only sour point of the night is the scum winning. They could still finish above us.
  • Doubt they will though.
  • We're on a good run at the moment, but we've had a few of those this season. It's a close division, we still need 4/5 very good signings if we are going to seriously challenge for promotion next year.

Just as it was in League 1 it's about consistency over the season and having a strong squad to give options and cover. A lot of our players outside the first 11 are inconsistent or not top half Champ standard.

Hopefully in the summer Powell gets the backing and the budget he needs to push us on.
  • One thing I'm pretty confident about is that Powell will know what is required. The big question is going to be whether he gets the backing to act on this. I don't think it is a massive job- players have grown into the division - If we had a 20+ a season striker, given the closeness of most of our games, would probably have gained us an extra 10 points. Comfortably in the play offs.

We didn't even play Cardiff if you read the metro (read the caption under the pic of Morrison).
  • Cardiff are the 46th different club to go into the Prem. 46, that's half the whole English league. Hardly the closed shop we hear about?
Next season 10% of the Premiership teams will be Welsh!
Well done the Bluebirds (in red!). The South Wales derby should be good.

More if you think about it. Cardiff, Swansea and Gareth Bale.

  • Where were you when you were blue?

Unfortunately 'malaysias a shithole, I'd rather stay home' didn't catch on, nor the Johnnie Jackson Batman song. Again.

A fair point, both teams very good defensively.
  • It's a shame the season is ending now, we seem to be getting the hang of this league. The one result I never expected was 0-0, a well earned draw but, we did hit the post (Jackson) and (Fuller) drew a really top class save the their keeper.

Don't forget Morrison's miss when in front of goal.
  • Very happy that I was able to watch the game on the web, as I'm living in another country!

Harriott is a really exciting prospect, he's going to be really good, he's already a special player.

Solly and Morrison were amazing today, also Wiggins and Hughes with his calm demeanor. Got really nervous when Cardiff had a 2 on 1 (Solly) breakthrough, Kim pushed the ball a bit too far, and you could see Solly instantly taking the clever decision to rush and block the shot, which probably turned out to a prevent a goal - he's amazing.

    Narrow margins. if only :-)

  • Was bound to be a 0-0 after Saturday's goal fest , well done to the fans who made the trip!
  • Only sour point of the night is the scum winning. They could still finish above us.

Yes, bloody late goal as well, I knew Watford's foreign legion would bottle it down there tonight.

As for us, amazing to think that we are ninth with three games left and yet could still be relegated!

We have improved as a team but are still three or four players short: A goal scoring striker, creative midfielder and right-sided midfielder (not convinced totally by Wilson yet).

As for the rest, Hamer, Solly, Morrison, Wiggins, Jackson and Kermorgant are top-half Championship but we have a number of others who are not really at that level over a full season but some like Pritchard and Harriotts have the potential to get there.
  • Just got back. Unlucky not to get all 3 points. Great save from Marshall to deny Fuller and Jacko hitting the post.

Not heard a noise like that from a set of home fans in a long time. Proper mental.

The away end was very snug and the stewards/police had to be on their toes to keep some fans apart!

    10% welsh, 10% scouse, 80% English
  • What a difference from Ninian Park.

Parked in the away enclosure less that 100ft from our gate - stewards brilliant.

In the concourse, the girls serving food/drink are all wearing Charlton kits, the TV is showing our last season highlights DVD and there are posters up around saying "Thank you for travelling 345 miles on a Tuesday night - Have a safe journey home"

Managed to get one as a keepsake - even though I travelled 420 in total.

Fans were loud at first, but our football sooned quietened them down. They only got excited again when they heard Millwall had scored.

  • Just got home after a very worthwhile trip. Another fantastic performance with positive signs for the future, here's my, possibly over optimistic, take on it:

  • A fair result, they hit the post as well. Two well matched teams, which suggests
    a) we've really got the hang of this Championship Lark
    b) Cardiff have a lot of strengthening to do this summer

I parked away from the away car park, as normally you get held back after the game, but tonight because the Cardiff fans were busy celebrating inside the stadium, I could have got out straight away!
  • Got back to the hotel like 20mins, scrappy game with no real quality but cant argue with a point at cardiff. The amount of strange people out tonight, had someone from glasgow offer to buy us drinks at 1:15.
  • A solid away point against the Champions elect - very happy. Congrats to Cardiff.

I think that puts to bed any sniff of play-offs, but a couple of weeks ago we were fighting relegation, so its not exactly heart-breaking. It's been a successful season, let's push on for the final three games to keep the mood among the fans happy throughout the summer.

    Well done Charlton!

Wasn't at this one, but agree with this all the way
  • Fantastic result & performance. Unlucky not to knick it with worldy save from their keeper and Jacko's free kick was superb. Pleased with the result as it meant we got away easily although poxy roadworks did their best to make the journey longer than normal. Good turnout, eventually when we all arrived!!
  • Is a good point away but our season is now over.

I drove through a total of 12 different sets of roadworks on the way home last night.

  • Good game and if they are the Champions we should have nothing to fear. Our poor home form has cost us but is that partly down to the Valley pitch?? We passed it around with ease tonight on a lovely surface. Solly had Bellamy in his pocket all night - MOM. Roll on next season - sort out the Valley pitch, keep the team together with a couple of quality additions and playoffs should not be a problem PS fastest car journey out of a game for as long as I can remember as they all stayed behind to celebrate.
  • We need to keep solly, he is an outstanding player at this level. So rarely makes a mistake and is constantly excellent. When was the last time he had a bad game?
  • Always wondered whether Solly is a central midfielder? Such a talent.
