Agree with CharltonHeston68. Actively coming to football is something I've come to later in life, as I was too skint/busy/working/distracted when i was younger. I'm probably a bit spoiled from that, but I've been in enough other situations that have been hairy to know that I don't want to be doing that at my age and certainly not with kids in tow. I was disgusted with the Addams Family song during the Knox/Mizen tribute and joined in clapping to try and drown it out. These are two families who've had their teenage sons taken from them, violently, pointlessly and have bravely turned their grief and trauma into something that will hopefully stop it happening to other families. It's really time some of our supporters learned some new songs (and as an aside I thought the atmosphere from both sides was pretty good in the first half, the responses showed humour and I think the jeremy kyle song is a laugh. It just got a bit one sided after about 60 minutes). I sit in the family area and didn't hear any racism (there was a fair amount of fruity language but that's to be expected, a fair bit from some of the kids). Fair play to all those who challenged it. I hope I'd do the same. And as for the negativity towards the team, this is what Millwall used to do (probably still do to an extent) - get on their own team's backs. Do we want to be like that? It's hard to suppress a groan when another promising attack ends up in the upper north, but there is a psychological problem at home. It would be nice if the team broke it with a massive win, but surely we've got to break this cycle sometime?
Agree with LA. Haven't been Away since Southend night match where Sandra and myself got abused for daring to ask people to sit down (I'm 5'8" and she's 5'3"), Left at half time as it was pointless being there (also left at H/T at the jills a few years back for same reason). Not sure about S/T next season: Got great seat in J block (apart from AdamTheAddick behind me & Len G on the left), but work/(lack of) money atm says "Probably No". (Been a S/T holder since 1970, missing only the 93/94 season). Was in a Manchester pub (for a City) match with Rock Spectle (amongst others) when I heard some racist shit from a few of our "supporters",(apparently it was "banter"), but RS was sensible and decided to leave and find another boozer. Seems to be getting more and more recently. I don't know the answer. The club probably don't care. As long as the bodies are coming through the turnstyle I think they may even turn a (small) blind eye to some genuine complaints. People know me, I'm no angel, but, hardly missing agame (H&A) from the early 80's-mid 00's, I seriously , hand on heart, can say I've never said anything that may be taken as racist and never gone "lookin' for it !"/"Givin' it large !". I supported the team.
(and, I've never "Boo-ed", but have slagged off many a player in the pub after).

not just the singing through the Knox/Mizen time on the pitch which was disgusting, but there seemed a lot of apathy towards it all.and after the scenes in the corner of the ground at millwall the famillies must be wondering if its worth the effort.
During the Pre match presentation just before KO I think. I got in just before KO and didn't realise what it was all about until that came up into the screen 5 mins or so into the game.
Are we talking about singing when there was a film of the guys five mins into the game? Or was it something else?
BEFORE the game both families were on the pitch for a ceremony where a few words were said and then shirts and wreaths, in team colours, exchanged. The goalkeepers then took the wreaths and placed them behind the goals prior to kick-off.
Some of our lot decided it would be an excellent idea to sing the Addams family song while all this was happening. As far as I could hear the Millwall fans respected it.
I wasn't going to mention this again but since the question was asked....

Couldnt tell wether millwall fans were singing or not but if they were not dosent show us in a very good light im afraid.
As a teenager, I never really got into football at all as a lot of the game was surrounded by violence, supporters tearing the arse out of eachother, ICF, organised rucks etc etc.
In 2005, a good friend of mine invited me down to the Valley, with our sons, and within three matches the whole atmosphere had me hooked. I've been a season ticket holder since and now take both my sons 13 and 5. Along with all the other supporters, we have witnessed some great games and some atrocious seasons but nevertheless, we continue to support the club.
Now in the relatively short time I have supported the club, I have noted a small but significant spawn of pondlife in our supporters. This came to light for me when we played Den Bosch in a pre season friendly. A small but lively contingent of DB supporters lit their corner of the Valley up with songs, chanting and even a bit of music. Sitting in the east stand with my son, our attention was drawn to a group of Charlton illiterate half wits at pitchside who's only interest was to 'Av it' and consequently spent most of the match singing the Addams song and 'Offerin em out' from 90 yards away.
Ironic really in that the song really reflected their own homelife.
This element, I fear, has grown not only in our club but across the Leagues as Sky news is reporting on racism, coin throwing etc almost on a daily basis. Being realistic, you will never eradicate this problem in it's entirety but surely something can be done about it?
A few seasons back, I went into the toilets to find three teenage boys smoking. Not being shy of a few words, I told them to put it out or go outside. They thought about it and obviously realised by my face that I was being serious and consequently left minus cigarettes. I don't subject my kids to that crap so therefore why should anyone else?
This element mixed in with an ever growing number of 'Managers' that surround me at every home game simply menas that if we're not 3-0 up within the first ten minutes then the players will start getting abused. I too get frustrated with performances of late however giving it to the players in that way, on a weekly basis, is not productive nor supportive of your club. Funniest thing I've seen at home was a couple of months back when a guy was walking up the stairs remonstrating about how crap we are and they should all be sacked. A guy who sits in the opposite row to me stood up and said to this guy 'If you don't like it mate, P*** off and support someone else!' Maybe not the way to engage in a debate about our playing style but made me chuckle none the less.
Even on the weekend against Millwall, stewards had to be called to break up a barney between a teenager and a bovril drinker who were at eachothers throats. All that going on whilst another rentagob was shouting at Fuller "Can't you run!!!??? You've only just come on!!! You're useless Fuller!!!"
Where does it end??!!
Sorry to rant on, but the point I suppose I'm trying to make is this:
The team will never come good with it's own supporters hurling abuse, olaying when they string a pass together and the 'Managers' picking out individual players and questioning their parentage.
Support is just that......supporting your club/team through thick and thin (and I don't mean with Rose tinted glasses)
If supporters are fed up with the team/club then by all means voice your opinion but do it constructively. If it really is too much for some then spend your saturday afternoons doing something else.
If you see or witness the pondlife element doing something they shouldn't then tell them, get a steward to deal with it or report it to the club.
Saying nothing/doing nothing will lead to nothing.
Rant over. Feel free to abuse me (constructively)
agree with this ... the last game I was at was the spurs relegation game due to emigrating and I can only imagine, well I could hear on the commentary, how toxic it was at its worst (sheff U home) ... an yet even in the good old days we had the moaners... it does make my blood boil it really does ... no idea what the solution is to be honest ...
Leroy --Lower North towards the NWQuad is ok. The black chap that wears the cossack hat who has been going for years sits there and most of the peeps about there seem normal
What is that guys name im sure there was a thread about him awhile ago?
i noticed on saturday a lot more anti social behaviour in north upper for example the smoking in the toilets tbh if i had kids id be quite intimidated there was about 50 blokes in there, im not saying im a saint at matches but home matches you dont behave like that. away games not that its a free pass to play up but i just dont understand the mentality of some of the home crowd they spend the whole game drinking coming out with absolutely ridiculous statements about football and banging the metal which is so annoying, im currently in h block is there anywhere else to move to where atmosphere is good because i do enjoy the singing etc
