Can Millwall go down?

Clearly the answer is yes they can but with just one win in their last eight and four points in their lase nine, is it at all possible that they will?

Their last 12 games have yielded just 7 points and they are only five points off third from bottom. The bookies (well William Hill) have them at 14-1 to go down but I think those odds look very high based on their form and that of those at the bottom. Based on our historical results against them I think I'd be very worried if I were a Millwall fan if they lost at The Valley on Saturday.

The FA Cup is clearly a distraction and a win today could cause them even more fixture congestion. A Semi-Final at Wembley could really cost them in their remaining league games as all the players focus on the biggest game of their careers.

I won't lie, I would love it if they went down. I'm one of those that would rather have them in the division below us than get to play them twice a season. Am I getting excited for no reason or is it just possible that they will go?

  • Oh great.

Because of this thread, we will defo lose next Saturday now.
  • fingers crossed
  • Wait to see whether we can beat them at home on a Saturday 3pm kickoff, if we can then maybe they are doomed.
Remember they have 2 extra games to play.
  • I had a cheeky fiver at 20/1 a week or two back but in all honesty I'm not expecting to collect on it. Lose today and the traditional three points off us next week should see them refocussed on the league.
  • Let's hope so.
  • They can but, sadly, I don't think they will. I can see Bristol City avoiding the drop with the possibility of Derby going down
  • Hey, next Saturday is not a 3pm kick off, it is 12.30. I'm making no predictions based on it, their away form is as bad as our home form.
  • Are they really as short as 14/1 now

Remember seeing a thread on here a couple of weeks ago highlighting that they were 40's, me and I'm sure a few others had a little nibble at that
  • I'd like to give you a yes, but unfortunately, I'm not in charge.

Derby.? Blimey, I thought they were better than us when I saw them. A bit more cutting edge in front of goal and we would have been caned.

It's Wolves that have the look of death about them.

Sadly the Spanners will be ok. Jackett is both competent and experienced. But I now believe we will beat them next week, and their zero-brain element will go into panic. So it could be fun to watch.

Had a fiver on them @ 40/1 about three weeks ago. Would love them to draw today, get a good draw in the semi and then this and the replay be on their minds for next week. Then to get stuffed in the replay with Rhodes getting at least six.

    Yes, yes, YES!!!

A draw today has got to be the result for us.
  • Can Millwall go down?.................Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please.

Losing a derby match from the fixture list would be a complete joy if it is as a result of the scum sinking down where they belong.
  • No I can't believe they will tumble into League 1. They have games in hand over almost everyone because of their cup run and just one win in this division can propel you up a number of places. Jackett is a smart operator as well and has too much experience to not be able to pull a couple of important wins from somewhere. The table shows how tight it is in the bottom five or six. Personally I don't like the look of Wolves or Huddersfield.

Had they not beaten Middlesbrough away I would have thought maybe.

Best result for us today would be a draw,so next week their players would be more focused on a replay and Wembley trip than a game against us because we know they don't see us as rivals.LOL.

I agree with others Jackett is an excellant manager and they have too many points on the board to fall this season.
  • can't see them going down and (bizarrely) I can't see us losing to them next week in fact a draw is the minimum i'm expecting !!
  • Care. Don't. I. Rearrange these words into a well known phrase or saying.
  • I hope we really go for the jugular from the outset next Saturday. They will be getting worried and will not be expecting much of a threat from us given our dire home form. But I think we could take them by surprise with Yann and Haynes up front and an in form Harriot on the wing. If we could beat them convincingly they could end up really struggling to stay up.
  • I feel a draw would be a really good result.

That sounds crappy, but our home form has deteriorated and with the possibility of bragging rights hurting us, I would snap for a 1-1 if offered.... and just to remain unbeaten for 3 games would be nice!

I don't think millwall will go down but we shall see...I just want charlton to have safety confirmed by league game 43.

Not looking forward to this fixture massively it's going to be highly tense on and off the pitch in a possible painful way.

  • The strange thing is since they lost Woods they have had a dip in form. The same can be said for Leicester whom Woods joined.

Looking at the fixture run in, Barnsley look like having a tough run in, Peterborough, are inconsistent and may not gather enough points despite being able to score. Wolves run in looks easier, but they are playing with limited confidence and have a crap manager in Saunders, who helped Doncaster get relegated last year.

Huddersfield have picked up a few victories against the top 6, I think they will be OK.

Bristol City have an easier run in and look they will escape.

Jackett is a good manager, Millwall teams under Jackett play as a unit and they have been in a relegation scrap a few times. That will stand them in good stead, even though this is probably the weakest Millwall team for quite a few seasons. I think they will survive, just about.

It may between Bristol City, Millwall and Wolves and I would bet Wolves.

Millwall seem to be distracted by the cup run, I am hoping for a draw today, with the replay against Blackburn after Charlton play them.
  • We'll play them back into form next week.

We will lose to them somehow we will fail , I have no faith whatsoever and would be at best hopeful with a draw . Cowards in this fixture
  • Yes, pretty please !
  • Derby have 9 games left, 7 of which are against the bottom sides. They have won 1 game since New Years Day. At 33-1, I still say they're not out of it.
  • Yes if using the same logic that says we could go own. They are three points behind us with two games in hand. They have a canny manager who's been around the block and will not be panicked. Scoring goals will be their problem and their biggest threat in recent games has been Henry who is basically a winger but who is now out injured. Having a big local derby next week could be the best thing that could happen to them as the players that have been under performing will have to step up to the plate. A win v Blackburn could be the catalyst to kick their season back on track. I expect them to have a Wembley trip and get a point against us. They will be fine.
  • They could but I doubt if they will. Anyway we need and like the derbies. Palace will fall to Forest in the play offs and Millwall will (like us) stay up
  • FA Cup - Sixth Round - Millwall V Blackburn - 10.03

    Championship

    Charlton (A) - 16.03 / Leicester (A) 29.03 / Ipswich (H) 1.4 / Birmingham (A) 6.04 / Sheff Wed (H) 9.04 / Crystal P (H) 13.04 / Watford (A) 16.04 / Huddersfield (A) 20.04 / Blackburn (H) 23.04 / Nottm Forest (H) 27.04 / Derby (A) 4.05

Millwall 5 away and 6 home.
  • Best case scenario for me is Milwall to loose a cup replay to Blackburn with a sparsely populated away terrace, defeat to us, Palace to loose over 2 legs in a play off semi, Millwalll to finish 4 bottom after 0-0 draw in front of a sparsely populated Den, K Jackett to walk to a better job and two derbies to look forward to next season, what are the odds on that?
  • Derby have 9 games left, 7 of which are against the bottom sides. They have won 1 game since New Years Day. At 33-1, I still say they're not out of it.

If you are right and Millwall have struggled then the Derby vs Millwall game at the end of the season could be a real relegation scrap.
