Thank you to everyone that's responded. So far we've had 152 responses. Unfortunately though, because I don't have a professional account on Survey Monkey I can only see the responses to the first 100. Here's what we got - apologies to the 52 who have answered but who's responses are not included.

Here's the suggestions that were made:

    Nigel Adkins 5
    Martin Allen 1
    Llewellyn Curby-Curbs 2
    Paolo DiCanio 5
    Ian Holloway 1
    Dean Smith 1
    Emile Zola 1

I'm not sure how useful this final question will be. I was hoping to correlate it with the previous quesions, but it looks like this is an option only for professional account holders.

Right, which one of you said no support then? ;)
  • Who are the Di Canio nutters?
  • Right, which one of you said no support then? ;)

I thought Reams was banned from this site!!

  • I think this survey proves one thing. Some Charlton Life members can't read.

5 people selected answer 3 or 4 in question 1 but 7 people responded to question 2.
  • I think he will get there eventually but he seems to have to make every mistake his self to learn. He hasn't had money to spend and if we stay in this league and he can invest in players I think he is the way forward!

100% from me. Never in doubt. Don't care if there are better managers out there. I want one that loves our club like i do. I believe Powell is that man. He isn't the finished article as a manager, i have no doubt, but how long did it take Curbs to achieve great things? And then it was in a different era. I think it's harder to succeed now than in any football era and the pressure is undoubtedly more noticeable. The fact that most clubs change managers during the season shows that too many chairmen are panic stricken, which doesn't create stability or success.

I'd be up for a ruling that managers had a transfer window too. Di Canio is unwelcome anywhere near our managers dressing room. A great player with passion he may be, but too hot headed for me. Powell is our man for the future!

Two people used that question to justify their thinking. I didn't bother to copy these, but I can if you want me to.

    I wasn't having a pop at you.

  • I started the Powell or Curbs thread as i believe Powell is as good as Curbs.

  • I said Curbs
  • I didn't answer 3 or 4 but I hate questions which demand fans give a better solution if they are to be 'allowed'to disagree with current managers.

After all no one would have guessed Chris Powell as an option when we had Parky. Wedidn't have much idea he was on the radar. How do we know what managers are just completing their certificates or working in youth teams / reserves?

Clubs scout managers the same as they do players, we do not have the time / ability / knowledge to do that
  • next two away games could make or break Chris, but after a great season last year i have started to think the Championship might be a step to far,go and prove us wrong
  • So can the banner be changed to 56% support now...?
  • Stig - great idea - the trust is paying fees to survey monkey as our surveys tend to run to four or five hundred so perhaps we can help you get the full response?
Looks like you need a new banner saying 75% support?

If a new manager came in they would demand resources to bring in their own players / improve the squad - so why not just give the resources to the current management team so as to finish as high as possible.

Totally agree that the next two away games (and Millwall) are vital to where the club is going - I think this board and the CAFC board may have a different view after these games.
  • He is learning.

E.g starting an attacking formation at home to please the fans.

He also made decent subs at 60 min mark yesterday.

    He also dropped Hamer.

    100% Support.
  • Well done Stig.

As for the banner, well I love Chris Powell, to me he is a legend and I'm proud he manages our club. I support him 100% as does Lookout, so it don't just stay, i'd make it twice as big if I had my way.

Managers seem to be in scrutiny and judged by no nothing experts after every single game, whether they even saw the game or not. Not a Charlton thing, its replicated on every form of social media by every single club.

Whether it is football supporters who have turned into demanding outspoken idiots in recent years, or its people and society in general, I don't know.

    Find it depressingly pathetic though.

  • Powell still has my support , and although not perfect has done an excellent job, with limited resources, and is still learning his trade, since he started.
Formation, and team rotation, and well as in some games late subbing, have not always been spot on, but few can claim to have got that right all the time.
Is Chris the person to take us back to the premiership, perhaps in a few season's if he is given time, and a reasonable transfer budget, of course no one in football has time these day's
and any manager who think's his job is secure, is deluded, or in the wrong job.....
  • Like my belly buster/corset.....100% support !

    Very well said, boss.

Or more accurately on these results - 95%...

Have been away for weekend so only just had a look on this site. Expected Powell out meltdown so pleasantly surprised...well done Stig for setting this up.

We live in an age of petulant entitlement and instant gratification. If that's what you want from your football, then you're following the wrong team in Charlton which requires a little more mettle and that dirty word - patience.

For as long as CP is manager,he will have my total support.

    I'm sure he'll be delighted.
  • I support him 100%

    THIS
  • I think I'm now gonna start calling him SCP from now on.

    1. Because I like the fella and am right behind him.
    2. Because I know how much it annoys some people.

    Childish? Yeah, why not!

Same reason why i started using it. :-)

  • I'm going to refer to him as SCPOHPS

(Sir Chris Powell One Hundred Percent Support) just so the haters know I'm team scp.
  • 100% support, he is still an inexperienced manager and hopefully will improve.

As the old saying goes, the one thing a manager needs more than anything else is good players - and we haven't got many at this level. Nor, of course, is the Championship anything remotely approaching a level playing field. Worth remembering that, as poor as we've been recently, we're above the two teams we cam up with, both of whom have got bigger budgets.
  • Emile Zola? LOL
