100% Support?

edited March 2013 in General Charlton
I was interested to see on the Can't Be Arsed thread that Big Rob and some others are calling for the 100% Support banner to be taken down. Yet on another thread there's a discussion comparing Powell to Curbs.

No-one could argue that Chris Powell didn't do a fantastic job in getting us promoted last year. But things have been disappointing of late, particularly for home-only fans. As I'm sure most will realise, I am firmly in the 100% support camp, but I wondered how in-tune my thoughts are with other Lifers. If you'd like to answer the questions on the attached survey. I'll post the results later.

    Done.

I've missed 3 home games does that make me regular or occasional? I've assumed regular.

Oh and I'm in the 100% camp although you probably knew that!
  • Done. Well done Stig, nice intelligent way to debate the issue.

100% for me by the way. keep the banner up is my own opinion.
  • There's no reason to take the banner down.

A manager can only work with the tools at his disposal and CP has done a good job to date given the lack of investment money available to him.
  • 100% support for both Chris and the banner from me.
  • I blame (Sir) Henry !
    Done.
  • The banner doesn't have to mean 100% support with Powell, could just be an overall 'support the team' banner.

Still in favour of Powell being in charge though.
  • Done. 100% support from me and, as I've said elsewhere, if we were to get rid of a Charlton man who dragged us out of a horrible league and got us at least competing (albeit not at home as much as we'd all like) in a half decent one, we'd be a bigger laughing stock than when Curbs left, and deservedly so.

    Aaaaaaand breath...
  • Done.

I'm not sure 100% support means "100% support whilst we're winning". We probably need three wins to stay up this year and I don't think there's realistically anyone else out there who would get us those wins.

Still in favour of Powell being in charge though.

The banner was put up during rumours that the owners were thinking of sacking Powell. It is a Powell banner not a Team one.

  • Chris is still learning how to make a silk purse.

    100% here
  • Done.
Good idea Stig, maybe you could do survey on who do we hate most, palace or small to avoid another such thread.
The banner wouldn't look right with say 85% Support though

    Completed.

There is no better managers on the resources available. Those would take the job up would be at best the same and may cause the team to sink like a stone. Changing managers for the sake of it, is counter productive. Look at Wolves.

Of other potential managers, Di Canio has a screw loose and an 'Il Douche' complex. He is also wants investment. No good for the mid to long term. Swindon went into administration under Di Canio's reign. Nigel Adkins is a good manager but why he want to come to a club with such low levels of investment ? Hart is great on the academy side but has never shown at any club any ability to successfully manage a first team.

Those that are pinning all the problems at Charlton on his shoulders are ignoring the resources that he has at his disposal. Do they really think that CPs choice of loan replacement for BWP is Obika ? If the Owners TJ / MS and Mysteron is withholding investment from CP with a hope to see to see him set up to fail to expose his tactical shortcomings, so they can better replace him with a Wise / comprade / stoodge of their choice. I would not be a happy supporter.

Would any other similar paid manager realistically be doing a better job on the resources available ?

Chris Powell is Charlton through and through. Mostly learning from his mistakes. Got to make sure that he avoids bad formations with the players in the wrong positions. CP is the man for the job. With investment in the team, we would be top 6 now no problem.

  • Done. I'm a 100% man. I don't think Powell is perfect, but I can't think of anyone I would rather have at the helm.
  • Completed and im firmly in the 100% support for SCP!

  • I cant believe people are doubting Powell, WE hit a RECORD points total last year for division 1. Withe basically the same squad and no additions we are likely to finish just below half way. There again if Southampton can sack Adkins there is no logic to some people.
  • What were the reasons for wanting to take the banner down ?
  • 100% support but accept he is still learning. Patience, pride and Powell needed.

  • CP is probably hurting just as much as we all are at our abysmal home form, but I'm sure he's the best man for the job. Would be totally gutted if the unthinkable happened and he was shown the door.
Keep the banner and keep the faith !!
  • Difficult because of the question wording - I support him completely because I think he's doing good job given the financial constraints, so somewhere between a and b!
  • 100%. Some wanted Curbs gone as he'd 'taken us as far as he could'.

    Done!

I support CP, as I would do anyone in charge, I just don't have 100% confidence in CP
  • done 100%er

bit hard to fill in my attendance stats, if i was i the UK i'd be all home & many away...
  • When the going gets tough (like now) Chris Powell doesn't know what to do to halt the slide. What is happening now is exactly what happened two season ago.
Chis Powell picks the team, Chris Powell picks the formation, so like it or not the the buck rests with the manager.

I would like to say I support him, but in my opinion he is out of his depth. The club is bigger than the man, so sorry Chris time for a change.
