  • Strange. Can understand a 1 year deal for someone on the peripherals of the squad or maybe knocking on a bit In years. But to offer a youngster who is pretty much your second left back a one year deal seems odd to me. Unless Powell don't fancy him. But why offer him any deal at all?

That's what I think. The way Evina was left out after Wiggins was injured didn't suggest Powell was entirely convinved by him. A one year deal, presumably at the same wages, is a bare minimum offer, expressing no real desire for him to stay!

I've no problems with giving our youngsters a chance, we did the same at this level back in the 80s/90s we had a long list of home grown LBs, Minto, Barness, Sturgess, Stuart, Konchesky...
  • dont see whats so bizarre about offering him a one year extension, he hasnt ever displaced wiggins. Yado Mambo was about the same age and we offered him a one year deal last season and no one really cared?

As for not making the right noises for a club looking to get in quality, i disagree. We released Semedo and Racon because it didnt make much financial sense to keep people on big wages that werent going to play very much. We were also told we would have a budget similar to rochdales... Then what happened?
  • Its alright, we can always get martin crainie in on loan to cover solly if ever wiggins gets injured ;)

Either SCP is convinced Fox is ready as an understudy or we add a left back to the list of players we need to get in. I favour the former option being correct. Gets a "surplus" ? Players wages off the books and gives a talented youngster his opportunity. Good luck Ceddy.
  • Morgan Fox is your man, good going forward, strong in the tackle and good in the air.As other people have mentioned there is also Holmes- Dennis and Archie Edwards for the future.Although Holmes -Dennis has reverted back to his old position recently which is left midfield. He could be good cover for Harriott.
  • Sounds like he wants more game time and a pay rise / contract extension , good luck to the lad.
  • Good luck, Ceddy wherever you play next season.

No doubt that he's worth a two/three year deal, but with several good players coming through from the academy do we need to have three left-backs?

If Morgan Fox can step up over the next season or so we have both his and Wiggin's replacement already at the club.

  • happy to say good luck and thanks but i dt think we will regret him leaving
  • Easily replaceable if he goes. He isn't a player who is going to push us to the next level and if we need another left back we can always loan one of the dozens of PL left backs who won't get a game next season. Now we need to sign players who are better than the ones we have let go, evolve the squad year by year

Or we may just be totally broke.....

  • Mmmmh we are letting some decent and important squad players leave thus far.

Fuller, Haynes, Waggy, Evina have all contributed the past two seasons.

Taylor, too. There's been lots of talk here of giving the youngsters a go, but I don't think they're tough enough yet for the Championship. Fuller, Haynes, Waggy, Evina, Taylor - I sincerely hope Powell has got some dosh to play with....

  • Powell doesn't fancy him that much or he wouldn't have tried every sod under the son ahead of him instead
  • We've suffered when Wiggy has been injured but he hasn't had a history of injury problems for us. He missed one game in L1 and that was to give Evina a run out in the league after we'd won the title. Breaking his foot seems more of a freak injury rather than the kind of repeated muscle problems Haynes and Fuller tend to have. Hopefully Powell is seeing Fox as a suitable back-up and if that's the case you can't really blame Evina for not being happy with a one year deal as back up for a top defender. He's 21 and came from the Arsenal Academy, I'm not surprised he wants more.

    Of course, forgot Taylor.
What worries me is that we are dismantling a squad that achieved beyond what all expected. These chaps have made 89 appearances all together this season (starts + subs).
  • it spoke a lot to play kerkar at leftback before even trying Evina , so I'd definitely go down the route of 'Powell doesn't rate him'
  • Remember CP was very reluctant to play him at one point - even getting a loan player rather than using CE.

Quite so, Mendonca - I'm surprised that more Lifers haven't expressed concern about this, especially bearing in mind the reports of Powell "considering his position" over budget cuts. On the face of it, things are looking a bit precarious....

  • I can only think it is an attitude thing rather than talent, as he looked decent and has only improved since. Still, CP is a pretty good judge of a player, if there's a reason he doesn't favour Ceddy then I am in no position to question him!

Rubbish. What reports about Powell "considering his position"?

It might mean we have no cash, yes, but equally for all we know it could mean we have shed loads coming our way. The truth is probably that CP doesn't rate him as an improvement on what we have already or can get elsewhere.

Lets not start getting our knickers in a twist because our reserve left back has only been offered a one year deal and thinks he can do better elsewhere. Not that I don't wish the bloke good luck but let's not read too much into it.

When was CP "considering his position"? Just because you read some shit stirring drivel to that end on a bulletin board does not make it fact.
  • "long long summer, why are we getting rid of squad players and first teamers that have injury problems?" Semedo going wasnt the end of the world, he wouldve been a squad player. Anyinsah is a good player but is made of glass. "Same budget as Rochdale", "Powell wont be manager next season". Theres a lot of the same noises coming out of the camp that came out the summer we rebuilt and then won promotion with a record breaking season.

Lets not all jump the gun, eh?

    100% agree

Not a big loss imo. Powell clearly doesn't rate him and if we can put the finances to use in other areas then so be it.

'People' newspaper, last Sunday. Yes yes, I know it has to be read with a sceptical eye, but we don't know anything to the contrary for sure. Mendonca made a good point that already four outfield players with considerable first-team experience have been shipped out - and I don't think the youngsters are remotely tough enough yet to cope with strong Championship opposition. Of course we all hope there is money available for Powell to recruit experienced players - but the indications don't look especially promising.

Most likely the picked the rumour up from here...

How often have we seen gossip here making it into the national and even local media?

    Welcome back, golfie !

Not only is the "long, long summer" you forecast looking to be a less than "hot, hot" one, the future of our Club is looking less than rosy too, in your opinion..

Can we please aim to be somewhat more upbeat at this early stage of the close season ????

Players at the end of their contracts will inevitably be looked upon with a critical eye by those who make the decisions - weighing up the pros and cons of what each has to offer the squad, what their record of injuries thus far has been, what salary they have commanded to this point , what youngsters we have champing at the bit to be involved etc etc.

Added to this must surely be who is on the manager's "wanted list" based on his own observations/scouting recommendations from the previous term and their aspirations salary wise..

How can you state that the release of certain players points to a clear picture of empty coffers, especially as Dervite & Hughes have been offered and accepted new deals ?

Is it too much to ask that you keep the faith, at least until players & management have recharged their batteries and get down to the serious business of looking towards next season ?

It proves nothing. It's (almost) just as logical to assume we're about to sign Jordi Alba from Barcelona as our 1st choice LB, hence not really needing Evina any more.
  • Aint even june and those with small cahoones are appearing already god help us when we aee 1 down at home with ten to go
