I think the frustration of many, including myself, is that CP is so good in so many areas, but his one big weakness seems to be in being afraid to make early substitutions. It's a pretty important thing to get right, because, as we have learnt this week, all the other good work is nullified if you end up with zilch points. If he could improve on that aspect of his management he'd be a top top manager.

Agreed. Also he does like to sit back and defend a lead too much. You just can't do that at Champs level. Often giving them something to think about up front is as good as shoring it up at the back. Hopefully he's learning from all this.
I think Powell has done well this season - I blamed him for Saturday and I blamed him for not bring Morro off recently when he was a sending off waiting to happen. I also blamed him for our approach at Derby and Forest away at the beginning of the season - but I woukldn't have been able to put the team together he has and manage that team.
But fans can be students of the game and sometimes see it from a different perspective to those who played it. When I go to a game. I don't go around lighting flares, I study it and try to read it - that is what I enjoy. Having done this for 40 odd years, I may have some insight that Chrissy Powell lacks. Not to say I know more about football, I don't. Put me in charge of the team and I'd be a disaster - but Tactics during a game- well I have been studying them all my life - I and other fans know something.
Saturday was a tactical error - that is what cost us- not Palace being better. Yes, maybe the players were playing too cautiously and against instructions, but that is all the more reason to make a sub and give them a message to continue to pose a threat.
Powell will be a legend for us as a manager, I'm sure but I'll point out an error when I see it. And I saw it at the time and before (I was expecting it when we went in only 1 up) - because I know how we play - it isn't with hindsight.
Firstly I want to say that I prefer to have a board that keeps the purse strings realistic than a bunch of idiots like they had at Porstmouth who effectively wrecked the club. If we ain't got the money then don't spend it! With regard to Powell I agree with a lot of the posts he still has a learning curve to go on when it comes to substitutions, when and who to take off/put on. Too often he leaves it too late and then makes a poor decision and that is the one thing he does need to improve on but by and large I think he is doing better than OK. Not sure what other posters were expecting this year but right from day one I said that mid-table would be more than good enough.
This Board that people are moaning about, are they the same Board that bought us a complete new squad ? What we need is an injection of good coaching, with a lot more nous, and maybe even a dash of nastiness in there somewhere.
