CP on Wordsworth

  • Surely we can offer him a contract now anyway ahead of July.

Players can only sign pre-contract agreements with clubs outside of the country they play in so we either have to make an offer to Colchester now or wait until the summer.
  • Won't we have to pay compensation to Colchester even if he is out of contract in the summer, as he's come through their youth system?

I think pre-contract agreements within the same country can only be offered a month before he is out of contract. That's how it works on Football Manager anyway :)
  • I have just heard the Colchester manager interviewed on Essex radio. He stated that they had not received one single enquiry for Wordsworth in this transfer window. He had received enquiry's for two other players but they were not for Wordsworth.
  • Manager's lie or are very economical with the truth. CP is a case in point. On a number of occasions he has said 'no imminent signings' and the next day we signed Hollands and another. Said he was unaware Fuller was available and yet we signed him a few days later. I'd take what the Col U manager says in public with a large pinch of salt.
  • went up to doncaster last weekend for a works do he played for colchester wernt impressed
  • Rumours on Twitter tonight that he has signed for Ipswich.

Don't need him we've got super Scotty Wagstaff :-)
  • Just read that he is on a 2 game ban after picking up his 10th booking of the season last week. 10 bookings in 24 league games is some going.

Thanks for that, I didn't know that.
  • From the TWTD Ipswich site

TWTD understands that Town are set to sign Colchester United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth in a £200,000 deal. In November, we reported that Blues boss Mick McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor had watched the 24-year-old in action for the U’s.

Camden-born Wordsworth came through the Colchester youth system and made his senior debut in August 2007.

Since then the central midfielder or wideman has made 155 starts and 44 substitute appearances, scoring 35 goals.

So did CP tell you how much he wanted him then?

Jermaine Defoe had a terrible disciplinary record for West Ham in the Championship before he left them...

Bit unfair. We have financial issues and when eerily needed the board to buy us promotion they did. Plus we don't know uf he was a target.

Some of the members on here may have wanted him, but that doesn't mean that Powell did.

  • Perhaps what we want and what we can afford is affected by needing to be sure that some players are sold first. If TJ is playing Hold 'Em again, then we will have to hope that his game has improved since his last botched attempts.

"Not one single enquiry" ..........multiple enquires would still be possible then ?

  • It seems to me that whilst not paying big transfer fees, Ipswich must have spent a fortune on signing on fees and wages over the last few years.

He hasn't actually gone to Ipswich yet folks

  • Not saying he has but I was just thinking about all the teams spending bucket loads in this league. Huddersfield and Wednesday had bigger budgets than us last year and both have spent far more on recruitment than us again this year.

All I am saying is that for money spent our return this season is phenomenal
  • looks like he is signing for the tractor boys today for £200K
  • I honestly think that if we were that bothered about signing him we would have made a move before now. Powell knows me are short on the left wing, he must have other targets in mind.
  • Sounds like we might wait till we can get him on a free.

No transfer kitty perhaps? or trying to get Colchester to drop their asking price?

  • According to someone on Into the valley, we offered Wagstaff in exchange but that was rejected.
  • Is he better than any player that we currently have? I've only seen him play once or twice and he hasn't exactly struck me as an outstanding player.

Yep, and we're being taken over by turnips and Powell is taking us down.

I'm still waiting for CP to be sacked - several weeks Reams reported that the pay off had been agreed...so why hasn't it happened?

  • Although I haven't seen much of him, I think it's vital we get a bit of pace into this team.
