  • Ngog's touch was good, made to look better by Dervite throwing himself to the ground. You can never know for sure if Cort would of done better in that situation, but Cort is the better, more experienced defender and knows to stay on his feet in the box.

Until he was dropped we had not conceded a goal in 4(?) Games and 1 goal in 5 - and that was a pen.

I'm not saying Corty is the messiah and with him in the team we will be impenetrable, I just feel if your best defensive partnership is available then they should play.

The same goes for our most fruitful striking pair of the season, Haynes and Hulse.

If it aint broke, don't fix it!

What if CP believes our best central partnership is Morro and Devito?

In principle I agree with you, always play your best team, if others agree then if CP believed Devito and Morro were the best then he would be right to drop Cort. Personally I like Cort, he follows the Charlton ethic of average talent, but lots of heart.
  • Agree with those that say Cort's positioning is one of his strengths - and he reads the game excellently.

Sure, he's not the quickest but he takes care not to get exposed or go to ground.

He's also a dirty great unit to get past (you can't go through him) and I can't help feel Ngog would have lost momentum trying to go round him.

He's the closest we've got to a Jorge Costa type CB - lack of mobility compensated by excellent positioning and sheer physical strength.
  • Just watched the goals (missed the first yesterday due to a "pit stop") It really seems to me we undone by a couple of moments of class play.Nothing too much to worry about as I thought we were the better team for large parts of the game.

  • I don't think Powelly knows his strongest 11 yet.

I find it frustrating that we don't seem to field a settled team. There is no need for this constant squad rotation, the exception of course injuries and suspensions.

Cort has been outstanding this season, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets. He should not of been dropped.

Very pleased with how the season has gone so far though!

Song for Dervite - I'm Spinning Around :-)

I think Morrison & Cort are Powell's 1st choice. However, Cort is 33 and will perhaps struggle to play a full season without the odd rest here & there.

I think Powell's given him a couple of weeks rest to ensure he's ok for the remainder of the season. He may also have picked up a slight knock at Millwall.
  • Has anyone seen on telly the attack we had late ish in the second half when the Bolton keeper appeared to walk in to his own net after a Charlton attack? It looked in for me with my extremely biased charlton red tinted spectacles on!
  • At the end of the day We need natural wingers, who have pace and are direct.

I honestly believe that's why palace are where they are right now

Yep looked in to me too

  • Lots of comments on the defense but we missed few chances .... Putting the blame on DD is quite unfair: his performance was quite good overall and we didnt score when we should have.

  • Should've won. Average for both teams first half (though Haynes should've buried a header), second half it was ours for 30 odd minutes and dominated their midfield (Stephens and Frimpong were very good) we would've won if we'd had an inform striker and that's what we're missing. Strike partnerships are more important in Championship than League 1 and we only just managed at times last year, we need to get Fuller some game time and in form as I reckon that would be a season changer for us. They won because they had a class striker who was an in form, which nabbed them the game unfairly.
  • I don't think we deserved to win, yesterday was a classic nil nil until N'Gog came on...

Being there yesterday Id largely agree with you.
  • Frimpong hasn't been mentioned too much by those at Bolton.
Listening on the radio, he seemed to lose the ball consistently and didn't seem to be in the game as much as we'd hope considering he is a premier player.
Interested to know how he played by those at the game.
  • I thought Frimpong was one of our better players, he certainly seems more match fit now then when he first joined us.
  • Frimpong contributed to the midfield that ran the game. If we could finish our dinner and went 1-0 up with that crowd and Bolton's rock bottom confidence there was no way we would have lost.
  • Not happy to get a defeat , but have come away from games a lot more gutted than that, we more than matched them for 70 minutes , and the game could have gone either way , up until the 1st goal we were playing some really good stuff , Wilson missed a sitter of a header from 6 yards ,and minutes later they scored , which is harsh for me to say as he had an excellent game and is not reknown for his heading ability, other chances went begging as well

Bolton were poor and got booed off at half time , they were so dull to watch!! we missed a good few chances , should have had a penalty given for a handball in the box and a goal given as their keeper was behind the line with the ball in his hands.

Then they brought on a £5 million pound striker that changed the game, no wonder they are a reported £120 million in debt!

Loved the Bolton fans sense of humour , singing that we 'should have stayed home , we should have stayed home , Boltons not a very nice place , ( i think you know the words) we should have stayed home.
  • I know if is a big word and all that but if Haynes header had been on target early on he would have scored, the Bolton fans would have got very anti and their team demoralised then a complete forward line of Ngogs would have made no difference. In this league you have to take your chances, we didn't.
  • based off the highlights i just saw... devrite got turned SILLY twice by n'gog for both goals. same move did him in twice. i understand he was very good against millwall and brighton, but cort should hv never lost his spot IMO. hope its cort and morro for at sheff wed...
  • Agreed Cort should never have lost his spot. Also Kermogant should not have reclaimed his!

Don't disagree that Cort has been unlucky but he would have been turned just as badly. Devitte was undone by a bit if skill on both occlusions. Sometimes you have to just accept an opposition player did something decent

agreed that it was good skill by ngog, but for devrite to lunge in like that while turning ur face away is a big no no for central defenders. (speaking from my experience here).... i overall think devrite has been an excellent signing, he showed real passion for the club when he dqualized in that 1-1 draw away. for me hes a better CDM then CB but no doubt a great asset to the squad.
