The pleasures of being an 'away' fan at the game today? None, The pleasures of reading some comments in this thread by Charlton 'fans'? None.
Was in the upper tier, to the right of the goal. Had to stand in my 'seat' for 94 minutes, with a constant stream of 'fans' pushing past, coming in or going out, seemingly with no interest in the game as they never looked towards the pitch. The guy to my right spent most of the game pointing at the Dockers Stand and yelling in my ear 'Scum, and you know you are, etc...'- that really supports the team, doesn't it?

Someone walked past me and jogged me he nearly knocked my thermos flask over! I was livid I can tell you!
  • They are certainly are not nolly however i expect to see some of their fathers at the valley return

I honestly think they'll be down before the return game.

  • A couple of thoughts - any Charlton fan who feels it is ok to rip up seats and throw flares should be a Millwall fan. We don't need you.

Millwall really is a club for scum - I know some decent Millwall fans but you have to wonder how they can support them. Saddens me when a small minority of ours behave like a large minority of theirs.

Great resillience by the lads- came for a point and got it.
  • Glad me and my 7 year old gave it a miss today and to be honest will probably swerve the home game too. Not really why I go to football to be honest, if that's why you go glad it was a good day, and I'm not being sarcastic, just thankful that I don't support a club where it's like that week in week out.

An increasing number of our lot appear to regard flare throwing and family attacking hooligans as "proper" fans sadly.

Hopefully now they've found the Den they'll stay there and let Charlton remain as a boring family club

Did you go today or just doing your usual?

I didn't go but people that were there have clearly said that Charlton fans threw one or more flares.

I think that is wrong which is an opinion I am entitled to regardless of whether or not I was there.

Sorry if my background as a "family type supporter" annoys you!

Actually scrub that apology! I'm proud of being a family club and as I've said maybe some of you have now found your spiritual home and should stay there.
Thought so. SHG, You another one who has an opinion when not attending to suit your agenda?

Fancy telling me what my agenda is. Just so I know like ?

If the club can do it - they would be wise to ban away fans from the return game. We don't need those scum polluting the Valley.

Probably best not go next time.

After 55 years of supporting Charlton home and away, I just despair of the depths of behaviour and attitude to which an element of travelling 'fans' has sunk, sadly some of which is evident in the comments in this thread.
Perhaps you are too young to remember being squashed into the floodlight-pylon section at the original Den?
  • Its all about opinions and i for one have had enough of going there and having the piss taken not knowing if you are gonna get out of there in 1 piece today was different and i thought it was great

It wont happen week in week out because we are not them

Muttley what you think does not concern me

Have to say I'm with Len on this. I take no pleasure in what happened today. I nievely, I suppose thought we were better than that. I was as usual wrong.

The real voices of true Charlton fans, Chilham, Len Glover and SHG - which I am sure reflect the views of the vast majority of our supporters. Thankfully, the more aggressive, extreme views of some on here are very much in the minority.
  • Nth's been quoted on the millwall link!

Apparently we're just Happy clappy, post 96, fuck wits.
  • I havent read any extreem or aggresive views

I think some of you need to realise that the people you speak of have gone home and away with charlton for 30odd years and havent just appeared

    Agenda?

Here is part of Boggzy's opening post. He was there. ...."So as not to clog up the post-match thread.

The flare thrown onto the pitch missed the ball-boy's head by about a foot.

Maybe I'm crediting Millwall fans with more intelligence, but I got the feeling that was why we were acosted by foaming at the mouth in-breds in Ilderton Road....."

I think it wrong that a ball boy was endangered but then I am someone who attends matches with women and children often.

Doubtless in your Millwall like mind that does not entitle me to an opinion.

As a libertarian if that kind of behaviour floats your boat then today you found the place to do it.

Horses for courses. SE7 is mine. SE16 appears to be yours.

  • The best away support since coventry in the cup..Millwall pussies.

Brilliant! Our hard boys going there and 'proper piss them off' and then we want the grown ups to step in and stop them coming to our ground.
On what basis do you think the club can ban them? We started an argument we can't finish is not going to be enough.
I was quite depressed at this thread but thanks Muttley, you've made me laugh.

  • Sitting here laughing at JorgeCosta being asked if he is young. Compared to Moses maybe.

Muttley what you think does not concern me

What you think concerns me even less. There are some things that make us better than Millwall - and a key one - some don't seem to understand.
  • Mixed views on one hand im with the people saying ripping up seats is wrong and why i hate Millwall but if im honest, if i had been there id of found it funny giving a little back to the scum in there own ground, assuming nobody got hurt.
  • Cant work out what has been the most predictable thing in this thread is Millwall denying any involement or Len Glover blaming the CAFC away fans having not been with 50 miles of the game himself.
  • Typical Charlton Life, somehow our own fans come out as the bad guys (according to some people) and "we're turning into millwall" because of a flair and someone throwing a chair?

I didn't see the chair but the flairs just made me laugh, really felt like we were mocking them and it totally got to them - same with some of the songs. I joined in with pretty much every song with a massive grin on my face and constantly laughing, whereas they didn't really sing anything and were frothing at the mouth shouting abuse back. I really fail to see how we are anything like them (bar the chair throwing person)

On the way out we were still singing and I hadn't realised we had merged with the millwall fans and suddenly found myself being offered out by a dozen or so 40+yr old men and being told I was "getting a smack down the road" after I had told one of them politely where to go. I went with my Bournemouth fan friend, and both of us are so far from the millwall neanderthal-esque mentality that we couldn't really believe what we were seeing... spitting at Charlton fans(who had kids with them), millwall of all ages angrily asking me who I support, bottles and rocks being thrown into groups of Charlton fans and police... and then add to that the constant stream of racism...

Also I really really hope that millwall don't somehow manage to hide behind this "flare almost hit a child" story as they had completely lost the plot before that happened, and although that is obviously a regrettable thing to have happened, I'm 100% sure it was not aimed at the kid and therefore really doesn't compare to their behaviour.
  • Its like the dark ages down there, look at Danny Green wanting the ball back for a throw near the end, total idiots.

    Still Len is right
  • I don't think people are saying we are as bad as Millwall - it's just we have far greater standards. Some us are proud of the reputation our fans have for good behaviour. It doesn't mean we are cowards and can't handle ourselves- it means we are adult and want to take our kids to games.

A CHARLTON FAN started this thread saying that A CHARLTON FAN threw a flare that nearly hit a ball boy on the head!

Sorry but I'm not going to say how wonderful you all are when I find such an act disgusting.
  • Michaelmon

There in tells the tale of a charlton fan visiting the den

It has been this way for years and why today i found it hillarious

The point michael makes about mocking them is the one many of you dont get and thats your issue

It was because we were doing the things they have done to us and it was driving them insane made it so much more satisfying

  • They're still going on.

    http://www.millwall.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=100696&posts=18

So we didn't sing, they couldn't hear us, we didn't take the piss and yet..........they're all f*cking fuming and banging on about the return fixture. I wonder why.

That 'Wippa' is going to do himself an injury if he gets any more wound up.
  • I was in the lower, my cue to leave was a glass smashing about 10 foot away from me in the stand, give me flares / smoke bombs every day. Glass not on.
