People always slag off their current and/or old employers, it happens. Are we just more nervy about it because it's Charlton and we have a vested interest?
I doubt anyone would bat an eyelid if another Lifer started a thread "Can you believe this?" and went on and talked about the work they had done over a period of time for a random company and then got sacked by email etc...
FWIW I thought there were more there on Saturday than normal but was equally as surprised to see us break 20k too.
I can well remember the days Badger refers to above when we had the occassional bumper crowd, most paying cash over the turnstyles, yet our attendance would be only a little bit more than the average.
Hmm...I suppose you have to factor in the dodgy turnstyle operators taking a backhander back then but I'd have though it was very, very easy (and probably a H&S requirement) to find out & therefore publish exactly how many people are in the stadium...if you wanted to that is.
So PV and SK have accepted the dosh and been gagged but AB has turned it down as a man of the people and gets more satisfaction out of exposing the regime who did for him. All interesting stuff if you ask me.
My gut feeling was about 18k and I was surprised when 20k+ was announced. You can agree or disagree with Airman but I for one am very interested to read his take on things, given it is a subject he will know far more about than any of us.
Wot does it mater if the seats were taken or not? They are paid for .I was the only user of our familys 4 season tickets. I just don't get the coments on here? Some people will argue over nothing!
Regarding the clever massaging of such figures was it the case during the Gliksten period that attendances were recorded as being lower at home games than they actually were for tax avoidance purposes.
I remember that, Badger! Everyone back then reckoned that.
No idea if it was actually true, of course ...... but you looked around the terraces and thought, yeah, there's 15,000 here today - and the crowd was announced as 10,996 or something like that!
For the first time ever, I received two E Mails during the week about the game, the offer of 1+1 and the offer of Saturdays game coupled with Tuesdays game.
Perhaps, just perhaps, this new method of marketing paid off and a lot of dads took their kids whilst mum was doing the Christmas shopping.
Certainly the East Stand Concourse was more 'active' than I would have normally expected, the West Stand looked fuller than normal and the North Upper looked packed.
or maybe mum took them whilst dad was cooking dinner
There was definitely a bigger crowd than normal in the home stands. The ends of the east stand were pretty full and upper west was well occupied but because Udders only took a thousand I would say there was 18k there.

I don't disagree with this, it felt more than Boro, for example (although the upper west was still quite sparse), but more than Palace? The turnstile count for that game was 19,380 - including 3,200 Palace - so about 16,200 in home stands.
Its very strange that Palace and Millwall seem to keep there finances better than us.Palace have spent more cash on players than us and Millwall have hardly any debt at all but manage better on small gates
It certainly felt more than normal. Interested to see what they announce tomorrow. On the web tickets, my block only has 100ish out of 500ish *allegedly* available (WSK - normally half empty) which fulfills AB's 4/5 in home areas to top 20k again if Posh bring 1000...
We don't know if or how other clubs manipulate attendance figures.
Just on official stats there are 8 clubs declaring average attendances over 20k in our league and we are ninth, just ahead of Bolton and Borough. I am surprised that Boltons have held up quite well when their gates in the PL were pony.
There should be 2,000 schools comps tonight, as that was in the plan.So with community and the core of guests, officials and hangers on there are likely to be 3,000 in total.
Typically less than half would be used and for a midweek game a good 2,500 season tickets won't be used either, so a gap of 4,000 between the actual and announced is quite likely without any intervention. But there should be some lift from the pricing.
I believe the turnstile count for Cardiff was as low as 10,000 home fans, which shows you the extent of the problem with midweek games.
Also, we are second in the ranking for "greatest difference between highest and lowest", well behind Boro and just ahead of the Nigels. Brighton are top of the "smallest difference between highest and lowest". Brighton also have the highest recorded aggregate and the highest recorded average, with Forest second.
If anyone wants any more useless info based on official attendance stats feel free to ask!

They might have run a scheme similar to us a few years back where fans are given the incentive of getting Premier League season tickets next season if they go back up.
Their attendances may be reasonable at the moment, but watch them plummet in a season or two if they don't go back up.
Birmingham are another side who's attendances really are falling. Think they only had 13,000 at a recent home game.
I'm surprised anyone is particularly surprised about inflated figures businesses use them all the time. I am sure Prague would have come across a lot of clients who have inflated their media spends by quoting rate card as opposed to the actual spend figures. Transfers are always clouded in add ons and sell ons much of which never materializes and of course we are not the only club that does it they all do. In some ways if we did not do it then we would put ourselves at a disadvantage to all the other teams marketing themselves.
If we had investors there then I am sure we wanted to give them the best albeit false figure.
Never seen a problem with basing attendances on tickets sold rather than through-the-turnstile as the club gets the revenue. Comps are a different matter, particularly if those given free tickets don't turn up! No different to printing tickets for all unsold seats, giving them away in Woolwich market on Saturday lunctime and announcing the attendance as 27,000!!!

My mates dad was a turnstile operator and he got us to fill in a couple of times when they were short. The clicker on the floor was wedged so it didn't record numbers. Kiddies were lifted over the turnstile at the adult turnstile but money still taken, two kiddies were put through each click on the junior turnstile and each bank of operators had a share out at the end. The supervisor had another dip into the pot at the counting hut. That was all before Glicksten got his whack.

Is your mate's dad Robert Lee?? Apparently he was a turnstile operator, although it was rarely mentioned.

Is it worth putting it all in one thread ?

I went. So did you. So did little bro. That's 3.
That was definitely the biggest "home" fan attendance this season, but no way was there 20,000 in the ground.
I know I've been counting The Valley crowds for 40 years :-)

Never any excuse for violence.
