  • Who really cares if it's 16000 or 20000 I just want three points.

    I know F*** all, off-it said so.

A2TR has said he does know on here so any fair to ask.

  • For the first time ever, I received two E Mails during the week about the game, the offer of 1+1 and the offer of Saturdays game coupled with Tuesdays game.

Perhaps, just perhaps, this new method of marketing paid off and a lot of dads took their kids whilst mum was doing the Christmas shopping.

Certainly the East Stand Concourse was more 'active' than I would have normally expected, the West Stand looked fuller than normal and the North Upper looked packed.

Of course, 20k gates won't harm - although a high number of comps will only be of value if they're converted into paying customers in the medium term.

I agree up to a point. I'm fully in favour of using comps on a targeted basis to bring in new fans. However, to get to 20,000 on a regular basis (bearing in mind the fluctuations in home sales and away support) from our current ST base we would need to issue many more comps than we are normally selling home match tickets. That becomes counter-productive because there are then so many out there that they find their way to people who would pay and can actually cost the club significant money.

Now 2008/09 was a bit of a special case in that regard because of what was happening on the pitch. Few wanted to come. But bear in mind we also had a lot more season ticket holders then too, so the gap to close was narrower. A gate of 18,500 yesterday wouldn't have surprised me particularly - even 19,996 would have been less suspicious than 20,012.

By the way, when we had 20,043 or whatever in 1998/99 we never quite had 20,000 seats - or at least we didn't think we did. Nobody could ever quite nail it down. So there is a long history of creative mathematics.

Anyway, the official gate figure on Tuesday night will be very interesting (to me anyway!).
  • Block H of the East Stand was fuller than normal.I asked the guys in my row and they said that they used to be Season ticket holders in the North Stand but they had not renewed their Season Ticket. They received a letter from the club offering them comps and they took up the offer.
  • Small point just for anyone in doubt; there were definitely more people in the ground than usual, and evidently more than most expected. West Upper was fuller than usual, also East stand fuller at both ends than usual. Pleased with that, whatever the reasons.

From where I sit in the West Stand the East Stand looked fuller than normal, and there were more people in the upper west.

  • I thought there were less people in NW Block D than normal

The truth is in the number

It's Going to be one of those number threads again

Remember that episode of Only Fools and Horses when Rodney has gotten married and then after work he comes "home" back to the flat rather than to his own house with Cassandra ?

"Rodney, you plonker, you don't live here no more"

"Airman, you plonker, you don't work there no more"

Why does everyone think KC has walked?

I heard it was because he was fed up of the constant rows between Jeffery Reeves (Lead guitar), Steve Lashley (Bass) and the trumpet players. Could be wrong though.

  • More importantly, how is oohaah going to factor this into his home/away ratio spreadsheet.

    totally and utterly rumped ffs
i knew our away support was junk but maybe not as junk on the ratio thingy now because of all the false home crowds
i thought how can our home crowds be that many and make such little noise ... well it appears it's never been that many

good hudders turnout 1,085 and we only managed 425 at burnley ..... still they're all from london

  • I Think it would be better if we could have an exact attendance figure for all the home games, this would also be good for future reference.
Regarding the clever massaging of such figures was it the case during the Gliksten period that attendances were recorded as being lower at home games than they actually were for tax avoidance purposes.

    don't do this to me clb74 ....
i have 5 season tickets unused from yesterday ... i'm part of these false numbers

hudders had 400 less at the scum the other week so there is a good thing for us , away teams fans like to come to charlton cos there's a lot less chance of them getting grief
    well done the board;-)

    Tax evasion, not tax avoidance.

Amazing isn;t it - years later we're doing exactly the opposite!

Birghton took 477 fans there on a Saturday, yet they had 26k yesterday.

Still our turnout eclipses the 247 Millwall took for their saturday visit in September.

Let's face it - Burnley is hardly the best place in the World to spend a Saturday.

No - it is the WORST place in the world to visit. Hence my visits were 31 years apart (but both 1-0 wins)!
  • five season ticket holders in front of me were not there Saturday. But they were there in the attendance figure.
  • Definitely more in the West Lower yesterday than during any "close" (i.e. 15% not walking out before FT) game this season. Took an absolute age to get down the stairs and onto the concourse after full time.
  • plenty of foreigners picking up their tickets before the game.

a new initiative to ship in scandinavians via the valley ferry.
  • i got a letter in the week and offerring £10 adult & £1 under 18's, so decided to go. Sat in the upper West and very busy around us....

Interesting the club would send out a letter for Huddersfield that late. Did it also include a half-season ticket form or details of the Peterborough pricing, which would have been a sensible use of resources? I didn't plan any Huddersfield price offer because of Peterborough, but the intention had been to do a mail-out for half-seasons, Brighton (full price) and Posh earlier in the month.

Incidentally, as there were 1,085 Huddersfield, the official attendance figure would mean that four in every five home seats were occupied if everyone had turned up. There are 23,700 home seats and the home attendance is given as 18,927, which is 80% full. You might hit that in the upper north, but not elsewhere.

Give it up - of course it will never be as good as when you worked there but let's move on.
  • Nobody's asking you to be interested, PL54. You move on if you like. I'm staying right where I am.
