Ben Hamer: "I love playing for Charlton"

  • Shame that what was designed as a thread to talk about something positive that Hamer said about this club has been turned into pointing out a mistake of his he made yesterday.

Not really sure they deserve to be in the same discussion.
  • Hamer - top keeper, top bloke - for my money.
  • @BenHamer21: Not an ideal sunday morning! Dead Leg! #treatmentroom”

    Injured?
  • Dead leg will get plenty of massaging of the knot out today (one of the most painful things ever!) and then should be fine for Tuesday I'd imagine.
  • Thought he should have had his hands on the cross personally.

He made a mistake, It was a poor miss of a cross when under no pressure and lead to the goal so Hamer has to take a large share of the blame.

Generally his catching of crosses has, imho, improved hugely this season and rather than three or four flaps a game this was the first for a while.

Good keeper getting better and cutting out errors (mostly)

Glad he loves playing for Charlton but remember what players mean by Charlton is not what we fans mean.

We mean the Club, the shirt, the history, The Valley, etc

They mean their team mates, manager and the crack at the training ground

Not a dig at Ben, just the way it is.
  • Haven't seen the replay but if he was at fault then he's just getting it out the way so he can have a worldy game next Saturday
  • How many points have his saves GAINED us this season?

Quite a few, I would think.

Like the hull game for example.. sure there are loads too

  • agree with garry man
it was a monumental fuck up but hamer is prepared to put his cock in the custard when the bullets are flying at the business end of a match and i'd much prefer that than a minge who wants to hide on his goal line and take the easy option, he who dares rodney

    Agree to an extent.

The only reason he misjudged the cross was because he was prepared to come out in amongst the muck and bullets to try and help his team-mates out. I think their fella actually mis-hit the cross a bit as it was coming in flatter and straighter than he would've meant it. Hamer started to come, then had to stop and try to go back. At one point I thought it was going to fly straight over him.

Yeah, his mistake ultimately, but those of you who think it was just a simple matter of him flapping at a cross really weren't watching.

  • I like Hamer and he never hides - always comes out for crosses and gets most of then. We could do a lot worse.....
  • To be honest if he hadn't come out and then it had gone back across the goal and gone in Hamer would get castigated for not coming for it. Right decision, albeit messed up in the actual process but everyone makes mistakes, and this was his. Move onwards and upwards.
  • Everyone knows keepers get more stick when they drop a rick , rather than a striker that misses a chance.

We'll see if he still loves it when he's standing in front of the CBL at the Den.

I think he will! The lad has got a lot of bottle and can give as good as he gets. The sort of player who I can imagine would be excited about this sort of fixture rather than afraid of it.
I'd imagine he'll be we'll up for it as he lives with James Henry the millwall player. Don't worry he's not a closet ambrose
  • But got to say and agree with a lot of comments, decent keeper, lovely fella and loves charlton at the moment.
What is it with people giving him grief. At wolves he was a rock and takes probably 98% of crosses!! Awesome at burnley too.
The people that slag him off are probably the clinger onners that wanted curbishley out.
