Big fan of Ben Hamer - I think and hope he could turn out to be a true 'Charlton' boy who come the end of his career will be known for his career and time here ahead of anywhere else. We've not had enough of those in recent years.
  • We'll see if he still loves it when he's standing in front of the CBL at the Den.

I think he will! The lad has got a lot of bottle and can give as good as he gets. The sort of player who I can imagine would be excited about this sort of fixture rather than afraid of it.
  • Good interview, the bloke's a character!

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Maybe I am being harsh but I would take Ben Hamers comments about 'love playing for Charlton' with a pinch of salt. Each player states that when they are under contract at their current clubs and whenever they move on it will be a huge shock and disapointment. Football has an enormous emotional attachment for a lot of people and by being public about your affection for a particular team - and then in a matter of weeks (Or months) doing the dirt on them - is tantamount to treason.

Look at Semedo for example, just a few months before he left us he stated he would sign for life. Now he is with Sheffield Wednesday he is stating how much love he has for them. It just shows how two-faced some players are towards their fans.

I don't have anything against Hamer and he does seem a decent guy. His banter with Jacko and many other players on twitter is quiet amusing but career's are important and if anything pops up that will be better for them in terms of wages then they will be out of the door.
  • Bon Voyage Ben...
  • Really like him, good GK who keeps getting better plus a character in the team.

@DiscoCAFC it doesn't mean that he can't love playing for Charlton though, does it? Just like any other profession, people want to further their careers but that doesn't equate not to being able to love the job they're currently in.

Who is to say Semedo wouldn't have signed for life if he had been offered a new contract?

Love of playing for a club doesn't necessarily mean the same thing as long term commitment. At the end of the day, football is a short career and when you are playing in the second tier, you've got to look after yourself if the big offer comes in.

If a big club one day comes in for Ben, and he goes, does that meet he didn't love playing for Charlton? Not at all.

  • Disco he can still love playing for us. But it's a bit like a mate I play rugby with. He's just been called up to the Cyprus national team - but in order to get noticed a bit more, he's got to play at a higher level. Now he loves playing for us and with us but in order to further his career he has to be ambitious. There's a different between Hamer and Semedo. Hamer hasn't said he wants to sign for life.
  • Read that interview down to the line "On the subject of Twitter, Hamer was one of several Addicks outraged last Sunday night by the controversial events on The X Factor".

2 subjects that go right over my head...........
  • Ben hamer is a very good young goalie who isimproving all the time

The fact he says he loves playimg for charlton should put a smile on every charlton fans face

    Good on ya ben
  • What does "Chardonian" mean again?
  • theres a lot to like about Ben he is becoming a good goalie and in the great tradition of that position a bit of a nutter as well. Whats all that pre-match cuddling about? Anyway he needs to stop shouting the odds when he or anyone else makes a mistake it doesn't help and work on taking crosses. That said I hope he stays we need a bit of character in the team.
  • I agree with daveaddick.

I think he is good and getting better, and goalies mature late. Who knows how much he loves it here, but I tell you what, he understood the importance of a result against Palace, didn't he? That header wasn't far off going in, and I have feeling he will one day do something which will elevate him to legend status. A player we want to hang on to, and whom I think could improve enough to do it in the Prem.
  • Yeah, My only qualm with him is that the bloody header against Palace didn't go in. Plus the overhead kick keeping the Palace players from getting possession afterwards. He's a total legend in my books, and I'm glad he is enjoying his time here.

He hasn't said this is the only club for him, he hasn't said he wants to spend his whole career here - he's said he loves the club. Something that I think has been obvious for quite a time; I think he's genuine.

A true legend in the making there. I think he generally handles most threats really well, I feel truly confident with him in goal.
  • Even though it didn't go in, that header vs Palace is probably one of my favourite moments of the entire season! Does complain a lot if he thinks the defenders were at fault but if he's not already a better keeper than Elliot ever was for us, he most certainly will be.

I was thinking about that header for days after. If that had gone in I'd have fell from the upper tier.
