  • I follow him on twitter and he's a funny bastard. He's also not up his own arse and appears to appreciate and respect the position he holds in society.
  • Bloke is a legend in the making for sure
  • I was thinking about that header for days after. If that had gone in I'd have fell from the upper tier.

i nearly passed out ....if he'd have scored i may have died

Don't want to start thinking about it again. It's giving me the hump. 92nd minute 1 down to the nigels and Benny has a header cleared off the line :(

Bert, Nicky Johns, Bob Bolder, Sasha? About time we had another hero in goal. Somehow the keeper is the foundation of a squad.

Would have celebrated it more than any goal I've ever seen watching Charlton.

    Deano was quality.
  • He is almost up there with Deano & Sasha for me personally, one of my favourite players since Chrissy has taken over.

  • I might be showing my age now but surely Charlie Wright has to be one of our great goalkeeping characters

But the kids have no idea that SIR Charlie Wright is a Charlton legend.
They're still wondering what that Sam Bartram statue is all about.

    (ducks for cover)

    ;o)

    You're kidding? Do shut up
  • Cost us two points today - his ego must have read this thread

    What game was you watching?
  • Watch the highlights for the goal, see him miss the cross and then have the decency to come back on and apologise. Perhaps you are among the long list of contributors who don't go to games?
  • I have to say I am a big fan of Ben but he did flap and completely missed the cross which caused chaos for the penalty
  • He cost us two points no more than the other players did, they really really should have added at least one more goal and then the pen would not have mattered.
  • Did he give the penalty away? No.

Was his flapping responsible for some sort of inevitable penalty to be given away by another player? No.

    Ridiculous statement.
  • He should have collected the cross with ease and the fact that he didn't meant that Solly was off guard and made an iffy challenge. Our defenders can't anticipate a normally very reliable keeper make a massive f*ck up and, as far as I'm concerned, that flap was the main reason for the penalty being conceded. Don't think that's ridiculous.....

  • It's a shame. A keeper can make one mistake all game and it becomes costly.
If Carlsburg did defending 1-0 leads, they'd be nothing like Charlton's.
  • Huge error by ben for the goal claim it keep it and no goal comes
  • Yeah should of claimed it but then again it fuller had passed to a free Hulse in the box in the second half instead of trying to go it alone would of been 2-0 game over
  • Watch the highlights for the goal, see him miss the cross and then have the decency to come back on and apologise. Perhaps you are among the long list of contributors who don't go to games?

Another ridiculous statement, maybe you're in the not so long list of jumped up twats that has bought a season ticket for a couple of cheap seasons because you have no other responsibilities and thinks they have the right to insult people who are not fortunate enough to be able to make every game for one reason or another!!! But just for the record I was there and yes it was a minor mistake in a very busy box that ball should have been cleared half a dozen times by a number of players, you can't blame hamer when they all played their part. He also made a couple of good saves and we also blew a couple of good chances. There were 11 men out there instead of htfc 10 we should have never been in the position to lose the lead but it happened. Also for the record hamer is a lovely guy, very friendly and polite as well as a good goal keeper
  • Blaming a keeper for losing you the points when he makes a mistake is just lazy supporting. Players make mistakes all over the pitch, it's just more obvious when it happens to a keeper. If we'd taken our other chances or Solly hadn't given away the penalty then we'd still have picked up the three points. Ben likes to come and make a big claim at the end of a match and every other time he's done it it's killed the game dead and demoralised the opposition trying to get the leveller. It didn't come off for him today but conditions being what they were and having seen many other keepers make odd errors yesterday I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He saves us more points than he costs us so it's not really necessary to stick the boot in when he slips up
  • agree with garry man
it was a monumental fuck up but hamer is prepared to put his cock in the custard when the bullets are flying at the business end of a match and i'd much prefer that than a minge who wants to hide on his goal line and take the easy option, he who dares rodney

I don't think anyone is going to stick the boot in too much-it would be silly to not acknowledge that he makes few mistakes and has been a major part of our success over the last 18 months. I also don't blame him for us only drawing yesterday, as pointed out, we should have been 2-0 up by then anyway and Hulse should have scored his chance after the equaliser.
Can't agree with Sadie Jane though- it wasn't a minor mistake, it was a major cock up from a routine lump in the box and the penalty was conceded directly afterwards so don't think there were any chances for the defenders to clear, let alone half a dozen.....
  • Hamer made a mistake, no question, and he'll be just as disappointed as we are I am sure. That said, if we had managed to score more than once, and we really should have done, the mistake and resultant penalty wouldn't have mattered. Blaming Hamer and Hamer alone for the draw is beyond stupid.
  • @handg to be honest that's how it looked from where I was sitting but I had a shocking view from my seat, had to seat in a nw very low down instead of my usual north upper. However it all looked very sloppy from all involved and blaming one man is not on.

Maybe I am being harsh but I would take Ben Hamers comments about 'love playing for Charlton' with a pinch of salt. Each player states that when they are under contract at their current clubs and whenever they move on it will be a huge shock and disapointment. Football has an enormous emotional attachment for a lot of people and by being public about your affection for a particular team - and then in a matter of weeks (Or months) doing the dirt on them - is tantamount to treason.

Look at Semedo for example, just a few months before he left us he stated he would sign for life. Now he is with Sheffield Wednesday he is stating how much love he has for them. It just shows how two-faced some players are towards their fans.

I don't have anything against Hamer and he does seem a decent guy. His banter with Jacko and many other players on twitter is quiet amusing but career's are important and if anything pops up that will be better for them in terms of wages then they will be out of the door.

What you don't get is that he has a passion for playing and for life, he enjoys his work and his life. Yep sooner or later he'll go and he'll be just as passionate for his new club and surroundings as he is at SE7, that's just the way he is as a person.

But when he does move on interviews and comments like this will always give the miserable glass half full brigade something to whine about. Until then enjoy what he brings to the club and team.
