Introduction

Who would’ve thunked it eh? Three wins on the trot, two clean sheets thrown into the mix and a pensive look upwards to sixth place rather than a nervous look back over the shoulder towards 22nd. Reminiscent of last season, Charlton went up to Burnley and put in a professional, hard-working and professional performance to see off Burnley at Turf Moor for the first time since a last minute winner from David Whyte back in 1996 secured three points.

Wins away from home are all well and good but can it last? Probably not. As such, we need to start picking up maximum points at The Valley and a double-header against Peterborough and this weekend’s opponents Huddersfield provides a perfect platform to really start hoping, if not believing we could be mixing it up towards the top of the table for the rest of the season.

The Team

The capture of Emmanuel Frimpong on loan from our Woolwich neighbours was greeted with more enthusiasm about his catchphrases rather than his footballing ability, but make no bones about it, Frimpong is a decent footballer. He will bring the tenacity, drive and downright nastiness that our midfield has been missing for a number of years. Will he go straight into the team? Maybe not this weekend.

Two clean sheets on the spin should give the back five of Charlton a level of confidence that has been missing for much of this season. There is no doubt that a settled back line, including people playing in their favoured positions and this should continue going into the weekend. The arrival of Frimpong will give Powell a small dilemma, but his lack of game-time is likely to see Stephens return to the fold at the expense of the anonymous Jonsson to partner Jackson in the midfield. Pritchard and Kerkar to occupy the wings as usual.

Yann Kermorgant played a significant role in the U21’s game earlier in the week but you can’t see him being even on the bench before the Millwall game at the earliest and if you combine this with the return of Ricardo Fuller then we are suddenly awash with attacking options all of a sudden. One person guaranteed his place is Danny Haynes who is holding onto his shirt in the best possible way with three goals in three games. Much of this is due to his partnership with Rob Hulse so that should be the partnership up top once again.

We’re going to have the strongest looking bench in a while that’s for sure.

The Opposition

Like us, Huddersfield are very good on the road. They have the fourth best away record, winning half of their games whilst travelling. That being said, the last time they were down in London, they lost 4-0 to a team playing in blue. Sitting just outside the playoffs, our fellow promotioners have adjusted well to the Championship despite losing Jordan Rhodes to Blackburn. With Jermaine Beckford, Lee Novak and James Vaughan to rely on, the Terriers have an obvious attacking threat that the Addicks have to be aware of on Saturday but the midfield and defence are very settled and work very well together.

Prediction

Last year’s game against Huddersfield was one to remember with a great atmosphere and an even better result. The wind is in our sails, it’ll be four wins on the trot and three clean sheets. A dench 2-0 win. Leave it yeah.*

Come on you reds!

*It was always going to happen, come on.

  • i think CP has the perfect opportunity to stick Frimpong stright into the line-up.

He would have been playing a bit or reserve football, and he did start in their game against Villa.

    1-0 Charlton. Haynes again.
  • Leave it
  • Frimpong to start on the dench
  • I am thinking a 2-0 win for us we are in good form, players are coming back from injury and our confidence has to be good
  • Charlton to continue their winning run with a hard fought but fully deserved 2.0 win. A goal in each half will seal the points!
  • Leave the back four and the front two the same as against Burnley. Hulse and Haynes are striking up a good understanding. The only decision to make is in midfield. Bring back Stephens in place of Jonsson. Stephens form over the two games before Burnley had improved significantly. Jackson or Frimpong? I would like a defensive midfielder to allow Stephens to go forward, so if Frimpong is fit enough to start I would play Frimpong. This seems a bit harsh on Jackson as his pass from midfield set up the goal against Burnley, but is his all round game good enough at the moment to retain a place in the team?
  • 2-2 thriller and we keep the unbeaten run going till the 1st dec zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  • Don't let,s get carried away because of a few good result,s football is like life just we think thing,s are going well it turn,s back to hit you.As much as I would like a win, enen one nil, I will not be happy until 5pm and we have won.
  • 2-0. Hulse and Haynes.
  • CAFC 3 v Huddersfield Town 1. Our attack is getting better by the day.

  • Goals galore at the Valley as Charlton win 7-6 after being 5 - 1 down. Haynes gets five.

Or more likely 3 - 1 to Charlton with Fuller coming on late to get the third and save Addick finger nails.

Frimpong gets 4s and 5s in the ratings for "only" winning the ball and passing it 10 yards to a red shirt rather than breaking legs or scoring a screamer from 35 yards.
  • Predictably, after a few good results, this relegation threatened team is suddenly good enough for promotion. This always makes me nervous, similar to the 'we're going to thrash Palace' type thread from September.
    Yet another home draw: 1-1.
  • A half-time Frimpowelling from the Gaffer will see us come from behind to win 2-1.
  • I can't believe you stole my word
  • I was half expecting it to be in the preview, word stealer!

    2-2

Although both are very winnable games on paper, I'd take 4 points and 27 points before December starts in a shot
  • 3-0 to us Hulse Hatrick.
  • 2-2

Considering our home form 4 points from Hudds and P'boro would be good.
  • Got a draw written all over this IMHO. 1 - 1
  • FAR too much optimism on this thread !!!!

I prefer it when the majority fear the worst - we're more likely to get something out of the game then.

  • 2-1 Charlton
  • Pritchard to get his first league goal.
  • In that case I fear the worse Fanny! Hudds are a good team, very similar to us and we have a bad home record no doubt about it. Can we turn it round from here? Of course we can, but I am not getting carried away just yet. The starting central midfield pairing will be key. Stick with a winning formula team or stick in an enigmatic, talented but as yet untried Frimpong. I'll take a draw and a win on Tuesday although this being Charlton the opposite will happen.

Just to balance it up,I can't see us winning this one.2-0 to them.

Need the Covered End to get right behind the team from the start,
    like we did against Cardiff.

A good atmosphere with the crowd right behind the team is vital.
Let's not go back to the bad old days of, "We only sing when we're winning".

Red Division will play their part.
  • 2 1, with them getting there goal in the last 20 minutes to leave us panicking but getting the 3 points.
  • Think Hulse has been an underestimated piece of the puzzle recently, think he causes a lot more trouble than a lot of people realise for opposition back 4. Think this'll be a score draw. But I really don't know, I hope we do win though, if we don't my Terriers supporting bird won't shut up about it haha
  • Am erring on a home win, most unlike me! 2-0
  • 3-2 with kerkar getting one ...
  • 2-1 to Huddersfield, as our inconsistent home form continues. I still can't believe that some people are now expecting us to get promotion!! There are a lot of teams in this division of a similar or better standard than us & I am still hoping for us to finish somewhere in the middle of the pack.
