If we got promoted we could use the money to plan for the next season in the championship. I dont think we will get anywhere near it but, surely we are in it to win it! Otherwise what's the point?
Funny how this started just after three wins on the bounce, we do only have six wins in all so talking about promotion is erm .... optimistic!
IF we get promoted via the playoffs I'd take next season as a write off, make some bank and return to the champ with new owners and our house in order and Powell to have a good crack at getting back in 2-3 seasons. If TJ or any new owner feels the same however, remains to be seen.
Also there's only one letter between God in my last post and thats the letter L. Buy it. My mate did and now lives in splendour. Its not too late. Just trying to help.
I have thought we were good enough all season but some poor luck and injuries sapped confidence. I think the best point made though was that if we are going to achieve the goal, we have to sort out our home form. That is a biggish if I accept.
My take on the home form is that many teams in the Championship have the same tactics as those in the League One coming to the Valley - the difference being that they have the higher ability to execute their plans. It helps greatly when our attack doesn't trouble them enough but from having Smith on the bench, we now genuinely seem to have a varied attack that can cause anybody problems.
Of course 2 players who will be key are injury prone so I accept things can go pear shaped quickly, but if we can keep certain players fit for decent spells we have a great chance.
Away from home we are showing automatic promotion form. We are a very good away side because we work hard, have good defenders, are well organised and are good for a goal or two. We do to teams away what they try to do to us at the Valley.
The next couple of games are certainly going to be interesting pointers.
I completely agree with @MuttleyCAFC. With the exception of Barnsley I haven't seen us play that badly. Hull & Blackburn should've been 3 pointers. Birmingham should've been a 3 pointer. And so on. But they weren't, and thats been our biggest concern IMO - not grabbing the goals to grab the points.
We now have Haynes scaring defences and putting some good games in, Hulse works tirelessly up front too - and thats without our 'big guns'; Kermo and Fuller. Oh, then there's BWP - who for me is a Hulse type figure; works tirelessly just isn't an out-and-out goal grabber at this level unfortunately.
Then there were our concerns about the midfield - with Jackson in the middle and no Hollands we've looked strong. Kerkar is a skillful force along the left, and with Wiggins re-introduced I think the left will be as equally strong as a right side with Solly and Wilson/Green. (Yes. I still believe in Green.) Pritchard works his ass off and has looked solid recently, and Stephens too is quite dominant in the center. I'm forgetting someone.. Oh, We also have this Frimpong chap for the next 6 weeks or so.
As far as teams go - we have a very competitive one. A strong strike-force, a rock-solid defence and a sturdy (and yes, often skill-full) midfield. I don't expect we'll be going up this year, I do think it's premature and a bit unrealistic; but I do feel as though we have the potential.
We're doing better than Reading were, we've had some nasty injuries and we've been finding our feet in a league above. Our support seems to have been galvanised by the threat to a Charlton Legend (Powell) and this has rubbed off on the team. We've shown to a couple of the top teams that we're here to play ball - Palace didn't exactly thump us, Cardiff got a shock, Leicester left without a point and Blackburn managed to scrape a point out of us. Middlesborough? Well, even their manager agreed that the scoreline was 'flattering'.
If we, the fans, do our bit like we did against Cardiff - then I expect a top-10 finish pushing for the play-offs. I'll be over the moon with anything more - but I wont be in hospital with heart problems from the shock!
This is a competitive league though gentleman, and nothing is set in stone. The difference between the top and the bottom is surprisingly tight.

Try the West Stand...we are all too old for that sort of thing.

The play off for certain.
